Hey Lou! I Graduated in May of 1978. I went to the Time Trials and The 500 race that year. What a site to see that Corvette at the Track. It has always been my favorite Corvette. This is a great example of the Pace Car. I lived a little North of Indy and the Track. My Father worked there every May for years. He got us great seats for the 500. It was a graduation present. Every time I see one it takes me back to a very special memory with my Dad. Great job Lou! Shawn.
Hey Shawn, I always enjoy the back window on this Corvette, as I thought it gave the car the design it needed. Happy to read this car brings back special memories for you :-) Appreciate the encouraging words, Lou
@@loucostabile Yes. Lou! You are right. The back window gives the 78 Corvette a sleek look and the spoiler gives it the special touch that it needed to put over the top. Unfortunately the HP rating was quite low. The Lil Red Wagon was rated at 225 horsepower. Being a senior in High School we still new the HP of cars. In 1978. That 65 Buick SkyLark Gran Sport 401 would look good in my Garage now! I went threw your video's. A while back couldn't believe how many you have done and how many different kinds of cars. AWESOME job! Shawn.
¡Saludos cordiales!
I was looking to buy this Corvette in 1978 and the salesman said it would be worth 100 grand in the future . They wanted 20 grand for the Indy car new. Why did Dodges increase in value ? You never can be sure! 454 hp sell over the 350 everytime.
My old skooL friend, a few years ago, had this exact pace car in his garage, had it for sale for 18k. He let me check it out. The C3 is sooo sweet, even in 1982, still a Stingray, and they're not anything millions of dollars, but sure does feel like it.
Weird that most people don't realize that the owner had to put the decals on. How so many people got them straight I have no idea. They did not come with them, they were given the stickers to put on after purchase, just in case you did not like the writing. 95% have the stickers and they have stood the test of time really well - even in looks. Plus you get the date of the race, which is pretty cool for the first pace car edition vette ever produced. Underrated collectible imo.

It's been a dream of mine since I bought the big Corvett book on a visit to Rio de Janeiro in 1987. My actual hobby is the Citroen 2CV, the "duck". I have 16 of them in many variations. My dad in Denmark had a C3 just like this! Everytime he ignited, the hood were united :) That was moments i cant forget! He sold it to a collector and later bought a Triumph TR6! Fine car, but no V8! Next project will be a Benz SL500 V12 or the SL60 AMG!

I saw one at a super Chevy show in commerce GA. Had 25 miles on it. The seats still had plastic on them. The sticker kit came with all pace cars. It was up to the customer if they wanted the sticker installed.
I love this classic, its exactly like the one in the video ,with original wheels ,but the paint has some scratches here and there, we replaced the brake lines ,fixed the fuel pump and much more a few ago
Wow I can't believe he got that wrong about who Dave McLellan was. He took over as chief engineer of the Corvette in 1975 when Zora retired. David R McLellan retired from GM in 1992 as chief engineer of the Corvette to be followed by David C. Hill as the third Corvette Chief Engineer.
@@loucostabileYour welcome Lou. I should know who he is as a C4 Corvette owner. When a car is cold, that is condensation / water coming out of the exhaust until the car is fully warm and then there will be no water coming out as all moisture in the exhaust will be removed. This is normal.
4:18 ... interesting the tach has a higher redline than the same engine in the same year Camaro. I had a 1978 Z-28 with an L-48 350, but the redline was 5,000rpm.

Believe the decals came in the car and the dealer would put them on if they or the buyer wanted them.
I loved these when they came out.
The spoiler and rear window just woke up the design!
The hot setup that year was the L82 4-speed. 😀
I enjoyed the 78 too, and agree 100% on the back just was what was needed.
Really nice corvette! A very special car. Looks like showroom new! One of my favorites!
