Removing the catalytic converters on my 99 Silverado - True Straight Pipe! - So loud!
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 13 апр 2021
- I gutted the catalytic converters on my 99 Chevy Silverado that I call Silverusto. I took a cutting wheel and cut open the catalytic converters and punched out the honeycomb, essentially deleting the cats from my truck. The result is a sound that you can feel in your chest! You've got to hear it for yourself with my sound tests. My truck is no longer road worthy, so I've decided to have some fun with it! This is just the first in a series of fun exhaust videos I'll be doing with this truck.

Loud enough yet? Nope, more fun to come with this truck.
Hell yea!
Get you some 5 inch tips 😂
How long did this take u?
@@alecon94 maybe an hour
Did your truck run rough after you did this?
That beginning was GODLY!
I feel sorry for the tweeker that steals your cats.
I have no idea how he doesn’t have a smile on his face when doing those pulls! 🤣
I was smiling on the inside for sure! Holding the camera, driving a sketchy truck on uneven ground...while flooring it, is no easy task! LOL
Gosh the intro was gold
Always best intros haha
I love the sound with a flowmaster 40 on it, that's what I had on my 5.3 and it sounded so good and was a really deep tone
Do you have it now is it good to do that to the truck
Got the same setup w ebay headers & magnaflow cats it sounds pretty good
Noooooo, mufflers suck!
Good job boy,good job.
Love hearing it echo
i was laughing so hard on that skit you did looool that was golden i own a 1998 5.7L ext cab c/k 2wd
I have a ram 1500 5.2 and I've done my exhaust every way possible besides true duals and I loved the sound with gutted cats and no mufflers but it droned out the cab too much so I put a glass pack on it and it's loud but tolerable in the cab now.
Bud the truck sounds beast, keep up the great content
The into skit is perfect 🤣
It's GODLY!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Dang i can even see the sound 😳
I have a 2000 silverado and that catalytic converters plugged which caused it to run horrible. I only really drive it locally to town and back in the winter to keep from driving my new silverado in the salt i do keep the old truck sprayed every fall before winter so rust is almost not an issue still. A shop quoted me a huge price to have them replaced so I brought it home and they went bye bye. Been like this for a couple years now. Good enough for what I use it for.
ive got a catback flowmaster on my 5.3 and absolutely love the sound, been thinking about just going catback dual straights, but im also stuck in between keeping it a bit lower profile and still pretty loud, or changing the sound and maybe sounding like shit just to get more volume.
Heck yeah !!
Man I have never posted a comment on someone's video before but dude you really just made me 💩 all in my pants. I'm not trying to make fun of you or be disrespectful I just thought I'd let you know that all that waffle cone junk you just cut out of there is honestly worth more than GOLD. I got $1,000 for the one off my Ford E250
This is the most stereotypical Midwestern truck I’ve ever seen! I would daily that lol 😂
You could’ve made $500 if you would’ve cut the cats out without damaging them like that and scrapped them Knowledge is priceless
I sold some off of a 2000 25004x4 for $700. Called the guy and he came and picked them up. I’m looking at buying a 02 2500 4x4 for $1300 and selling the cats off it to recoup some of that money. It needs a front seal on the transmission
I was looking for a way to do it without check engine light popping up
Gotta hide it from the cops
Bullshit. You don't get more than $100 a piece for gm cats. Been buying and selling them for 15 years. Knowledge sure is priceless
@@jason6325 prices were a bit different a year ago
Headers and straight pipes are the best
Subbed cause of the intro
This answers a question I had. Too much interior drone for me on my daily driver. But it sounds great!
I watched this in my truck with subs. Damn she got that wubwub
Honestly that sounds sick🎉 🛻💨🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥💥👊🏻👍🏻
Sorry to change the subject but that gas tank door, I have never seen a rusty one like that B4. Are you in Winnpeg ?
Don't worry if them ugly welds leak just grind em clean a bit and reweld it. Nice first weld if it sticks
Subbed for the intro funny as hell
Do you hit the gas until the governor kicks in
Now that was funny. Better than cable.
I'm debating between Corsa and Borla cat back system.
Straight pipes.
Looks like some good deer hunting out where you at
That's funny man bout to do the same thing
crusty but trusty, my "95" still good engine over 200,000.clean crack on exhaust behind cat. could hot exhaust heat up trans fluid in pan nearby ? Thinking of running straight pipe will it affect gas milage ? allowed in rural area.
Might do that to my 7.4
Holy shit that's literally my truck but extended cab
should try the mufflers now that you have no cats
I’m on it 😎👍
You gotta bounce it off the rev limiter a few times to get the full affect 😂🤘🏻
MYes okay I opposednnlllnj
Nkknnnnnnnnnnnn
The older 5.3’s don’t “bounce” lol they just stay at red
@@quag6844 Your thinking of the Cat-Eye's (03-07) the electronic throttle body keeps it from bouncing the rev limiter. On the said model year truck in this video (99-02) Has a cable driven throttle body and you can let it sit there and just hammer away off the rev limiter
@@hotwheelsracer6380 I got a cateye and can confirm. It’s fucking miserable 😂 I would love to be able to just bounce the pig off the limiter but it has such a soft limiter it’s sad
Just gutted $500 in converters brother shoulda cut em off and put a pipe in put some money in ur pocket
Did you put sensor extenders on o2 sensors
I did a cat delete too. Sounds loud asf
👍👍👍
Do you still have the muffler
Are there any cons to deleting you cats like mess with your o2 sensors or anything?
If you just install a defouler downstream you can pass emissions and avoid CEL.
Looks like work rig
Now u gotta doit open headers
Did you spit any engine codes after doing this set up?? I've got a 98 and can hear the honeycomb rattling. With the cat converter bs going on I was very curious in trying this. And in about 1 more year no emissions is a +
Yes, engine codes will appear unless the 02 sensor is bypassed and or before the catalytic converter and no second 02 sensor behind the catalytic converter receiving the post cat reading.
Wasn’t sure if those are leaves or rust flying out the bed
Lmao you knocked 500$ out on the ground 😂🤦♂️
Cool! But I'm curious, did this cause havoc with your downstream o2 sensors, or no backpressure issues?
It throw a code with the rear o2 sensors are to read the after cats.
@@jeffalan6339 what do I do if the battery is dead and the code is erased ...?
Get it tuned out
Just install a defouler on the downstream
You should do a 8.1 vortec swap on the GMC.
That’s bad ass, the sound finally matches the look of the truck
Going to do this to my 99 👍🏼
Sweet!
check engine light?
What does it do to ur computer with the O2 sensors reading?
It triggers the check engine light. I believe it is code P0420
Straight pipe!
When you fires it up it sounded like you were getting ready to hit the drag strip😅
Ooh, that’d be fun!
When you eliminate the cats will the o2 sensors throw codes?
Yes
Someone help please. My drivers side cat on my 04 1500 was clogged BAD so I cut a hole made a little door thing peeled it open and gutted it all out. It looked like coal lmao but now my truck is insanely loud will that damage the engine ??? No I did not weld it back or close it it’s just there. Open. Btw my truck was already deleted under the cab. Has no exhaust muffler or anything.
Huh?!! What?!!! How’s the throttle response? If you delete your cats won’t it throw a check wallet light due to the O2 sensors?
Check wallet light was already on before I gutted the cats 😂
does it still have a muffler???
Just did this the wat you did, easiest way but defenetly the dirtiest way. Only one of my cats the one on passenger side on my 2002 sierra had anything in it, got the driver side open and nothing is in it at all, is that normal somtimes?
I don't think it's normal, but I suppose it is possible that the catalyst material may have broken loose somehow and over time blew out the end of the exhaust.
What was all that Rattling in side?? Fix it.
Someone’s stole my cats
Put a 6” diesel exhaust tip on it to see how much it changes the sound
I have a 10 inch diesel one on mine
What are those
Sounds savage sounds like power it has under hood aye
The rigs a savage now in the 🇺🇸 streets what!!! There's don't bark like us feel me
Aaarrrr aaarrrr aaaarrrr USA ON THE PEDAL GET SOME YALL WANT SOME OUR STREET MUSCLE CARS ARE HOOOD. STEAIGHT HOOOD!
Do u leave the O2 sensors on ???
Yep there still on it
@@TheDaninator THANK YOU for SHARING & replying BROTHER !!!
I’m actually thinking of pulling the cats off my 4.8L and putting a 12” cherry bomb glass pack. It’s got an exhaust dump right behind the cab. Would you wanna do a test to see what that would sound like?
Idk man cherry bombs are really ricey sounding look into like flowamasters more aggressive
"Sparks are hot"
Bro I have this same looking truck 😭😭 single cab tho
Looks like rev taps industries
NEW SUB HERE My 02' 2500HD truck just started "putt puttin" and stalling while idling lately, noticeable loss of power. Will doing this restore the power/acceleration loss (not concerned about fuel consumption)? BTW the truck has had 02 sensor and misfire codes for a while and I think it finally caught up to me. New truck on the horizon but trying to limp by a little bit longer. Thanks.
Good one LOL
Did doing this make you have a check engine light on at all
Yes, this will definitely cause a check engine light
Does it smell bad man because I did the same and mine smell Terrible
Sounds way better then my clapped out shit box hahah my driver side header snapped on my first gen tundra I’ve been driving it like that till I can get it fixed but sounds like shit almost like metal slapping could be my cat shaking and hitting the header maybe idono
Is it just a catalytic and muffler delete on it?
Yes
Will hollowing your converters out cause a check engine light?
Yes, most likely.
How does this affect the performance due to the cats basically not being there? Im going to install long tube headers on my '98, but that requires removing the cats all together. Im concerned its gonna run like crap after. What can I do? Will it be alright? Please help.
Did you ever put the headers on?
@@ABONE1 nah he's scared. On the other hand, I live in the south and we don't have emissions testing. I haven't ran cats in all my years of driving.
Sounds like a ram
Those cats are going for $600 right now...
Where can you sell them?
Pop pop
Try flamed out glasspacks. Or ones that are 2 years old. Very Crispy.
Have you gotten the phone call from the EPA yet. I think that crime is punishable by the death penalty. Sounds great
They may have called. I don't answer numbers I don't recognize, LOL
Try a thrush welded muffler with no cats.
Now its a trailer park truck
The one thing you left out does it still have stock muffler ?
He literally said it's mufflerless...
What size of pipe you install?
Since the cats are finally off, it would be interesting to hear all the cherry bomb exhaust products without the cats and compare them to your previous videos With cats👌👌👌
Stay tuned... 😎👍
Would love to hear these. I’ve got my 99 straight piped with no cats
@@timfelts4295 with no cats, did you get a ck eng light ?
@@johnwaldrop3211 I did but I would always clear it before going for inspection once a year
You should do a review on that titanium 125.
I’m thinking about putting a flowmaster super 44 with stock cats on my 05 5.3, how do y’all think it would sound?
Really quiet even the flow master super 10 was
@@jerrynene8166 false, I did it today and it sounds incredible
@@jerrynene8166 check my YT out for the sound of it
Wow, in terms out loudness..it didn't make all that much difference. Just made it deeper, bassier, and throatier. It is a little more raspy and pops more. I'd say DB rating would be about 100 on cold starts. Revs, it probably topped 115 or 120. Cruising would be about 105-110. If you want it louder, run true dual 2.5 inch pipes with 6 inch tips. If you still want loud but, a more refined sound. Put a x-pipe where it y's into the single and put a h-pipe about midway down the system.
Right on!
Nah it’s more like 123-124 db bud
you should have cut the cats off and taken them to a scrap yard and made a little money .i’m having the cats replaced on my 2000 gmc right now the rattling at idle is driving me nuts
You should drop a 454 or 490 in her and then see how she sounds
Wear a mask. That stuff is deadly when you breath it in.
What do you suppose that does to the exhaust if it is deadly ?
True duals next?🤭
I believe I’ll cut the y pipe after the cats and run open headers 😵👍
@@TheDaninator header dump, header dump, header dump!
I just took the cats off of my 02 Suburban. It has a thrush glasspack on it but it sounds like a straight pipe.
02 yukon xl here true straight duals dump just behind front wheels!
Put a tip on it
I thought straight piped was cut before the muffler
