Thank you brother! Not a very detailed video, showing very close step by step but a simple video to show one of the many and many ways to make a sling. I tried to be short 😂 and the video is super long 🤣. Part 2 is coming
So I took up slinging about a week ago. I can actually get my ammo going in, more or less, a consistent direction. I just made up a sling using a taper similar to what you've done. Best one I've made yet! I used a different materials, but it's the one that feels the best so far.
Consider the idea of Balearic Golf. Traditional golf course ... never have to use the green. Balls are golf balls. At the green area put up the standard target. One has to hit the bullseye to sink the 'putt'. This may not be an easy thing to set up in your warmer climate since the golf courses may stay open all year around. In the more Northern states the cold weather allows Archery Golf. Same idea only at the green area a plastic tube with tennis ball on top is substituted for the putting hole. If it works for Archery, why not for the Balearic skill? It should be no problem. What do you think?
Awesome idea! I did archery golf many times. Years ago I thought about golf with those dogs ball launchers, different sizes for the different distances. Awesome brother
This is a cool idea, but I've never heard of archery golf. It seems odd since I am in Michigan and have family from the Ohio border into the upper peninsula!
@@TingTingalingy Understood. Likely it has been local archery clubs with cooperating golf club courses [again local decisions] where it has taken place. It's been a long time since I did it [around 1973?]. I note the comment by Volp above that he did it also. So far as I know there has never been a 'league' ... just individual clubs. Try the plastic pipe with tennis ball thing at home. You will be surprised at how difficult it is to hit with a recurve. Compound bows ... yeah ... their trajectory is almost horizontal at that range. Ha ... My wife and I only could afford recurve.
@@TingTingalingy Likely they would respond to some sort of financial incentive or or or or ... Plan your meeting before it happens and have alternative offerings to be flexible at the time.
You might not see this, as it has been a year since you posted, but I was curious as to why you made the one side of the pouch thicker with the two inserted cords? Or did you do that on both sides of the pouch and forget to mention it?
I am planning to make one with oiled sisal cords, which is a bit thicker than the plastic twine, and do a 5x1 strand braid for the finger loop, joined to a 5x2 strand braid down to the pouch and split it again into two 5x1 strands that gradually thickens to a 5x2 braid to have them equal to the retention braid, before rejoining for a 5x4 strand braid that I will then taper down. Do you think this is doable, and even functional? I am trying to merge your technique and that showed by Archaic Arms into something that makes sense to me on paper.
I forgot to mention it. But both sides of the pouch are the same, same amount of strings numbers. Your technique sounds great! Experiment and trying new things is the best
Hey, very cool sling, nice tutorial and great entertainment but I got one question. Why do you make one string of the pouch a little thicker? Best regards, Mike
¡Muchas gracias! Ya he producido dos hondas, Y he tratado de tirar pelotas de tenis. ¡Es muy divertido y creo que mi honda funcione! Hecho de cuerdo de canamo. My perfectionism forced me when adding or deleting strings to split the strings and braid them into one another, so I took a while. I really like the feel of the hemp in my hands, it is nice and soft so no need to add leather for the finger. Acabo de ordenar algunas semillas para cultivar una honda y fumar las flores! Just one question, I did not really understand the splitting and joining the braids for the pouch. so I figured out a way myself. Both slings I made had the braids next to each other and pointing a bit sideways, and when joining I have one on top of the other, and pointing more in the same direction. It works but I am still curious to know about this in more detail.
¡Hola! I have found a solution for the lack of stones in and around Amsterdam, no rocks but plenty of used bicycle tubes for free at the bikeshop around the corner, of different dimensions, starting with racing tubes and ending with mountainbike tubes I cut them into rubber rings (Like badly prepared calamares) and make balls which are heavier than tennis balls. Now that I can make projectiles in any weight I want I have one tiny question, ¿what is the approximate weight of the stones you use for precision slinging?
That is personal to the shooter, some people like them heavier some like it lighter but really depends also from the weight of the sling and how easily the sling opens up after the release. Try different weights and you'll find your best. My favorite weight is around 85gr
@@volp5502 ¡Muñchas graciñas! I just weighed my favorite ball and it is 86 grams☺ In the park in my neighbourhood there are two football goals and sometimes I sling 4 goals in a row from one goal to the opposite.
Now I have quit drinking because it was too much, and started running and riding my bike as recreation other than shopping. I need to go outside every morning but running has to be done with moderation too. With the sling I have a healthy activity outside in the park for days I am not running.
@@volp5502 I think I am allso going to make one out of synthetic fiber, hemp is not ideal for rainy days. Talking about hemp, I have a 2.5 meters tall weedplant in the garden, and it would be great if I could produce a sling out of that plant.
Glad seeing another person who are making Balearic style slings but with synthetic materials, I used nylon rope, would like if you try it too.

If I was wanting to make a 30in sling how long would the strands need to be

Excellent tutorial I can’t wait to try it. Have you made one like that with paracord. Would you use the same number if strands.
Yes I made one with this style using Paracord. I used 3 strands but I removed some or add more if I needed it

@volp5502 what is the thickness of the twine
Is it much lighter than one made with same proportions and out of heavy natural fibers

This type of rope (made of polypropylene, PP) is called _"harvest yarn"_ or "baler twine".
