They are drawing air towards the so-called Jacobson's organ and holding it, allowing for a more detailed chemical breakdown than by sniffing alone. This response is called 'flehmen'. When horses curl their upper lip back over their teeth and appear to be laughing, they're doing the same thing.

Yea dog does it with blankets a lot. It’s sweet. We let her until I notice her start chewing on them, then we take it away. I tell her you can nurse, but you can’t eat🤷🏻♀️

He was realy young in the shelter, so it make sence that be would behave that way. My mom in the other hand hates that he does that and would tell me to make him stop. My oldest cat use to do that but finaly grew out of it. We found him when he and his brother were a week old. Though gis mom was still alive, it was a good thing we took them because some guy poisoned their mom and one of their sisters. A lady was suposed to take the rest of the kittens in inckud8ng the mom, but the mom ran off with one baby. The reason we took the kittens was because the man threatened that he will get rid of them if no one else does. Didn't think he meant geting rid of their existence

Yep. Basically a case of arrested development (infantile behaviour continued into adulthood). It couldn't adequately complete the period where they normally suckle so still feels the need to do it. As a point of interest, thumb sucking behaviour that persists with adult humans often results from scenarios where the person was made to feel deeply insecure / lacked parental attachment / was expected to deal with adult responsibilities while still at a naturally dependent age.
The one we're the cat slaps the lady and the owner says "oh so sorry about that" does this on purpose. She knows how that cat is and let's people come up to pet it andthen say "oh sorry about that". She knows this cat can get aggressive not only towards people but other animals, but she doesn't care. She doesn't say, "don't pet my cat". She thinks it's cute and does it for attention, but that cat has gotten violent towards other pets.

My orange tabby, Aka, used to nurse on my ears. It’s a weird feeling.😅 He was 9 weeks when I took him home, but I think his mom (first time mom) kicked him and siblings out ASAP so he might have needed the extra comfort of it for a while.
