Portrayal is an absolute stunner, one of my faves from the house. That herbal note that you pick up is very much what green tobacco leaves smell like. The contrast of Jasmin, fresh/green tobacco leaves, and vanilla is masterful and dead sexy.
Portrayal is the only Amouage I still own. To my nose, besides the jasmine, I get a lot of elemi. I have to be in the right mood for it, but when I am it’s magical.
Hi, I have Portrayal Man which isa violet leaf bomb.. it has some similarities to Fahrenheit simply because the leading notes are both violet leaf but they are not the same,, very unusual, really nice fragrance. The one that I found really good from Amouage is Material,, years ago i went on holiday to Mauritius, I bought back a big bunch of vanilla pods. What I noticed is that they smelt very different to the vanilla essence you get here, they were woodier, earthier and more plant like in their smell whilst still maintaining that vanilla aroma. When i smelt Material it instantly reminded me of that, basically it smells like real, fresh vanilla pods. Very unisex and very different, I highly recommend you try it..
I have been ignoring Amouage for the longest time, always thinking they are inaccessible for me and way and too expensive. And then this year I got my nose on Portrayal, and Sunshine, and Material and I fell down the Amouage rabbit hole. Now I own 8 bottles, allbeauty has great deals sometimes (I got Interlude for 80ish pounds). Journey is on my ‘To sniff’ list, and Overture, and Boundless and the new releases. Great house, very unusual fragrances, at least some of them.
I probably need to give these fragrances more time. . Jon sent me these too, and I've totally dissed the first three 🤦♀️. They just didn't work for me. . Opus went into a dry musky murky thing, though did get better once it settled, though it virtually disappeared. Portrayal unfortunately was Tuberose dominant and it turned me off, but i do need to give it another chance. The Imitation was horrendous. . Had to scrub it off. I'm thinking amouge might be anti lizzie chemistry or something. . I'm hoping Journey will rescue it all back 🤞 Your reaction to Portrayal is amazing. I'll definitely revisit it.
I have a decant of Portrayal- it is beautiful. I heard it was white flowers and tobacco mainly.. for me I don't smell the weed, interesting.. My only bottle is Lilac Love which I do love..
Hello Claire, I have found Amouage fragrances do need to be put on skin. Many are so complex they are both complex and challenging. It's really enjoyable to see them evolve to the dry down. I haven't collected them yet as I wonder when I would choose to wear them. They aren't easy reach fragrances. I wanted to try Portrayal but haven't because my skin tends to amp up cigarette tobacco notes and I dislike that. Sunshine has that same craven white tobacco and by the end of the day that was all that was left. The ones I have tried are Lyric, Material, Epic, Sunshine, Lilac Love, Blossom and Crimson Rocks. I would like to still try all the ones I haven't yet tested just because it's an amazing experience. Sometimes patchouli can initially come across to my nose as being weedy. I wonder if that could have been what you were smelling? Thanks for sharing your first impressions. - Jenn
Need to try these. I have Epic Woman (rose/oud) and Sunshine Woman (not sure what that is exactly, but I enjoy it!), in addition to Lilac Love (truly a favorite...lilacs and chocolate). I also have Lyric Man, which is gorgeous. I agree with Jon that, in general, the ones marketed to women are more enjoyable and less in your face. That being said, I did try Interlude Black Iris and it was really interesting and I do like the dry down.
try Imitation man if you are keen on rose and Lyric man. it is not the same and the Rose it not super dominant but that sweet, fresh aroma is present. Amouage produce some very interesting fragrances, I think Imitation is one of those.
There's something about Portrayal just you wait is all I'll say 🤣 the only sample of something I've ever finished. It does go through a change doesn't it. Yes I got tuberose too as the tobacco grows a bit. The fruitiness does stay on me. Maybe more so when wearing than sniffing. It's damn special isn't it. Journey I liked, blind buy 🙊 glad I did but my 4th favourite too. Seems to be the one people like on me the most though. Probably the easiest most usual of them all. Imitation is tricky at first 🤣 but thst blackcurrant on me is absolutely divine and the aldehydes just make it sparkle. Like ribena on a hot day. Its definitely the one that goes through the most changes. Opus yes 😍 not quite the violet I was looking for but absolutely head over heals with that one. Just beautiful. I suspect there will be more, I've really fallen from the house. Interlude was the other I have my main eye on. Its not the easiest but ooof, nothing like the mens version. Glad u didn't hate them all 🤣
Wearing Imitation now, it’s so pretty, I don’t detect the aldehydes, it’s like a sweet white floral with a honeycomb facet. There is something slightly odd though, I think it’s what smelled like greenhouse plants on paper but on skin is a bit pond like 🤷🏻♀️
Jon sent me Portrayal, Journey and Imitation too. I've caned the Imitation already on skin. Can't wait to try the others on skin. We're all off down that Amouage rabbit hole now!
@@Smurfygurly definitely different on skin. I get fizzy blackcurrant and delicate flowers and the drydown is lovely. Would definitely snag it if I saw a good sale
I have Portrayal, Journey and Gold (feminine bottles) and Portrayal is my fav. Not beachy at all to me I get more tobacco/suede and fruity florals. Not really Jasmine like with a light smoke. It’s the one Amouage that jumps off my skin and one that garners compliments. Journey is big to start and then softens quickly. Sexy fruity honey with a strong Concord grape accord much like I get from SL Fils de Joie then it heads back to that purple floral powder note like from the bottle - heliotrope. I haven’t tried the other two but I’d be keen.
Portrayal is my fav. The jasmin and tobacco mixed together....sooo addictive. BUT Only for jasmine lovers, not a blind buy!
It’s beautiful I think it’s my favourite but keep changing my mind!

Haha definitely have to put them on skin! I didn’t get along with Journey at all but I do love Opus III. Great one Claire!
Imitation my 1st favorite from amouage.. I named her sparkling water 😍😍, this is my signature scent. Doesn’t smell anything like that 🥰🥰
My winner is Opus VIII. this is the best part in Opus collection. I love Imitation Woman, but on my skin is amazing

I only get that weed for the first 10 mins on skin, I’m wondering if it’s the tobacco accord

I will be trying more now for sure!
A rabbit hole, oh boy ✨💚

Honey and Lemon! Off for a Lemsip. Covid finally caught up with me after nearly three years!
Oh no!!
Jon sent me Portrayal, Journey and Imitation too. I've caned the Imitation already on skin. Can't wait to try the others on skin. We're all off down that Amouage rabbit hole now!
It’s so funny, I wasn’t that keen on Imitation on paper but on skin it’s lovely, so floral and sweet.

How do you feel about portrayal now? After wearing it properly?

I will be re trying them all slowly on skin, I’m sure Portrayal is my favourite now.
