  • Outboard Motor Boat Engine Forward Reverse Gear Box using Fork Lever Shifting Mechanism.
    This gearbox is used to change the direction of movement of a motor boat.
    When the output shaft with propeller rotates in Clock Wise (CW) direction, the boat travels in forward direction. Gear shifting fork lever is set in forward position.
    When the output shaft with propeller rotates in Counter Clock Wise (CCW) direction, the boat travels in reverse direction. Gear shifting fork lever is set in reverse position.
    When in Neutral position the output shaft does not rotate hence the boat will not move in any direction.

    Hi I was searchi ng a video like this for many years
    can you please name the parts of this gearbox. I am trying to build one. If you are ok you can also build one sample for me as per my requirments. I willing to buy.

      Grey colour horizontal shaft is the main output shaft which has splines, brass yellow colour component is dog clutch that engages and disengages the forward and reverse bevel gears. Red, blue and green colour components are bevel gears. Green colour bevel gear is the driving gear which is connected to the engine. Shifting lever slides on the groove of the dog clutch.
      I don't know what is your application is. But if you want to build one to verify the working mechanism of this gear box then start with small parts. Buy two sets of electric angle grinder bevel gear sets, which you can buy online. These spare bevel gear set costs around 380 rupees. Find a suitable shaft for the gears. Use plywood for supporting structure. Use ball bearings for supporting the gears. You can weld the projections for the dog clutch and file it smooth. Make only two splines on the main shaft and in the dog clutch to simplify the process. Two splines should be opposite to each other on the shaft. Cut matching slot in the dog clutch internally. This will be fun to build.
