Obviously this video was produced several years ago well before the opening of the airport. Also, no mention was made of the internet although even today there is a very limited satellite link with the internet. We are all hoping that the island is able to connect to an undersea fiber link connecting west Africa and Brazil possibly in another two years or so. I noticed she does not use the more popular pronunciation of Saint Helena.

0:35 Imagine Napoleon seeing a island to turn into a small city that back in his days it was just only his House.

@@xixi1x34 cute story, he got along splendidly with his first jailer, also with a little 12 year old girl named Betsy Balcombe. Napoleon would race along the road before he moved to the Longwood House. He would also chat up soldiers. After he moved to the Longwood House and Betsy left his demeanor changed. He would walk around the outskirts and look down below, but I don’t believe he was allowed to mingle with people anymore. They were afraid he would sneak messages and try to escape. His new jailer didn’t even allow him to see his wife and son nor allow family members to visit him. He complained bitterly about the climate. Eventually he barely ever left his home and sickened.

It's not so isolated anymore, nowadays it's just a single layover away from CDG.

Zero mention of the new airport, open a very short time ago if I remember correctly. Does that date the piece? -- And I was disappointed to hear nothing about his remarkable disinterment and relocation back to Paris, which was quite an episode that eventually had to have had an effect on the eventual rapprochement between the UK and France through Louis Napoleon and Queen Victoria. Or the legendary young English girl who formed a kind of relationship with the Emperor, but I was most disappointed not to have heard more about the new airport, which last I saw was soon to open.

Even more than Napoleon I fondly think of visiting St Helena to appreciate Fernão Lopes’ marooning and for his spending 30 solitary years there ( he was brutually tortured for reverting to Islam in Goa , India and refusing to go back to Christianity ) and with no one arm and disfigured body , with perhaps a rooster whom he befriended that had gone overboard a passing ship. Would love to be there where he once he once might have strolled around in search of fire or forage !

“Wait who’s in charge of France?”
“Mee!” Said Napoleon tying to take over Europe.
