To be of Korean ethnicity and to actually speak Korean, are two different things. She was born and raised in the States and, according to interview I've seen. had difficulty with Korean in the beginning of her career. As far as I'm concerned is Japanese not a course in American classes and since her parents aren't Japanese, she wouldn't have been exposed to Japanese prior to coming to Korea, where she first had to upgrade her Korean. So I still highly doubt Ailee's Japanese is fluent enough to be able to sing this song fully in Japanese.
This is like a perfect anime song, for that one scene where someone sacrifices them self to save the others, while they yell and scream crying about how much they don't want them to die and leave. The feels man.
I thought I'd like either Ailee's version or Ikimono Gakari's version better... But to be honest they both feel so different that I can't really choose one of them, both are amazing! I really like the arrangement on Ailee's version as well as the kind of genre they went for, it sounds really good. I just wish the lyrics would either be fully in English or fully in Japanese instead of keeping random lines from the original lyrics, but it's still great anyway! ♪

I think the singer "ailee" is a korean. Her pronunciation and the style of singing is the same way as the k-pop singers singing (although not all). Also the way she sangs english and japanese are way too perfect but still i can recognize her through voice and singing as well.
