Luv that you did this one! Wiley killed it on this. Btw that's Ghetts, you did his black rose track that's why you recognise him Check out Ghetts - Legends don't die
In this kind of a setting is where Ghetto (Ghetts original alias) places other spitters in shade, maybe it just me but he has something so unique since day in his schemes, so unorthodox and energy is off the charts. Scorcher is missing from the title. Wiley had been spitting just a bit longer being the elder and was the most polished.
I do hope at some point you have a little time for some more Ghetts, he is so diverse. From his old Ghetto anthems like Artillery, to his flexing on Who's got a problem, to his musical bliss on Preach right up to now with his latest works Listen and Legends don't die. Of course you have a crazy amount of tracks to get through, I understand that. If you do nothing else, at least take an hour of your own time to listen to (not review/react) to Ghetts - The Discography | GRM Daily when you are chilled and have some headphones handy. It's an hour of some of his stand out/favourite tracks spanning close to two decades in a live tribute set by Grime Daily.
They were in East London Bow Roman Road which is Wiley manor. There was a lot of tension between these crews back then. The Internet was going mad with who was the best. Wiley crew was a little more basic, wretch crew was more rap but using grime as a stepping stone and people didn't like that. Around 9:30 you see wiley talking to ghetto saying "be normal" or something like that. What he didn't want is for this video to turn into a clash as that is what everyone else wanted at that time and it's likely the movement would have won so wiley wanted it cordial. However after wiley spits his last lyric I'd about ghetto so even after asking them to be normal he sends for ghetto. Then ghetto says "tried it". Scorcher is an actor in top boy. I can't remember his name as I've only seen it briefly but he was in the first or second season and he was the enemy. Also there was tension because wiley crew is based in East but with two Tottenham members (skepta and frisco). The movement is a north London crew with Tottenham and Edmonton members (wretch and scorcher) and although they personally might not have been involved in the war it was still a bit technical. This came out around 2005/6. I don't know how skepta got so big. He was basic compared to most but he had catchy lyrics and could produce music. Him and his brother created a t short business which made them a lot of money which ended up becoming the name of the crew. Before it was roll deep which was wiley crew and it was 90% east members. Then wiley Brough skepta and jme to the crew and little by little they formed boy better know which was a mix between east and north but seen as a east thing. Also, you hear wiley mentioned "Sadie is a cool young lady". She was a really pretty younger sister of a famous UK singer Shola Ama. Everyone was on her. Scorcher got her, had a child with her and then later when scorcher was in prison wretch wifed her. Now they don't talk for obvious reasons. Most think wretch destroyed the chance of a movement reunion and it was a snake think to do.
Guy who you thought was Ghetto was Scorcher, Ghetto or Ghetts was in the white T who went after Wiley when he went just after Wretch, Ghetts is easily my favorite
International Ferg Cheers man ... think ul enjoy it it’s from Kano’s new album Hoodies All Summer, whole album a masterpiece 🔥🔥🔥!! If u like it then should check out Mercston-Top Tier with Devlin and Ghetts. Ghetts slashed on it🤯🔥
Proper Grime. These OG grime artists piss all over these new weak ass young drill dudes. The whole genre is built around clashing/rap battles so you have to be on point with your lyrics and flow. It takes years of dedication with no social media to promote your stuff instantly to millions of people. Not like drill peeps just mumbling through a balaclava about how badass you are because you're stabbing and shooting people. Drill is embarrassing.
ASAP J that’s facts he’s talks about the street shit in the vlad interviews. And when giggs went on the vlad interview he literally wouldn’t talk about no street shit the only thing he spoke about was the gun charges cos he already got charged for it that’s why giggs is certified in London cos he is humble as well as k Koke I just think k Koke gets slept on to much maybe cos he’s white and people don’t take him seriously but k Koke has really been in the struggle
I don’t know if you ever got the full story but there was a documentary by The Movement, they went to pick up Scorcher from jail and at the time The Movement (Ghetts, Scorcher, Mercston, Wretch and Devlin) had beef with Boy Better Know (Skepta, Frsico and Wiley + more) as they were walking around the endz (the hood) they run into each other on the streets and were like well you have cameras let’s see who’s the best but it was mainly Ghetts v Wiley but it was always on the mic, they would do songs together and still diss each other on the songs
skepta kinda got big in the states from co-signs from drake and asap rocky but he’s proved himself on his latest album as in his own lane. he’s huge in the uk. frisco is part of boy better know with skepta but he’s slowed down a lot since then but he’s still highly rated by those who know. yeah wiley, ghetts and wretch did the best on this. couldn’t pick because they’re all different styles. the guy you didn’t know was scorcher. the guy who was familiar was ghetto aka ghetts.
Skepta went big with Shutdown and his performance in Shoreditch where he illegally put on a show in a random car park. Little point off note, this act from Skepta later led JME to creat shows on the street for free where he bought stage and speaker equipment and performed for free. This was his first stage of release for GrimeMC if I'm not mistaken. Theres a whole video breaking it down somewhere. Skepta grew from here though and began taking his craft over to the states. He had been going to the states since back in the days of this freestyle you're watching now so he definitely over time made some serious contacts. Plus, Drake has had a lot of attention on the UK scene and in particular Boy Better Know. This influenced a lot of Americans to involve UK music in their playlists too. It wasn't really just one single thing, it was a whole domino effect of things which made Skepta erupt. In turn, UK music really blew up over there. The grime scene is something ive followed from its beginning and to see it as big as is today and being shown the love it really deserves is great but its still got a very long way to go. Its only really just been born in comparison to other genres.
PS Guy before Wretch is called Scorcher. This freestyle was filmed as part of a Risky Roadz documentary and was began the day Scorcher came out of Prison. Definitely worth watching bro its on RUclips but it gives you a real insight into what the early days of grime actually were rather than just the normal freestyle video.
I forgot to mention the members of The Movement that you will see in their early days are Wretch 32, Ghetts or known as Ghetto at the time of this, Scorcher, Mercston who also had a run in with the law back in the day which landed him in prison for a good few years, and last but not least, Devlin. However, in the later days of the movement, Devlin wasn't as active of a member as the rest of the others.
YO BRO, when u say about bars sounding like they should be on a different track, what we do, is write our verses and when we shoot a freestyle vid we use the lyrics but switch em up
It’s very early 2000’s mate bin listening to it since day dot listen to lord of the mic Wiley vz Kano or footsey vz scratchy and I think it’s in Tottenham London brv
Bro u ain’t done any ghetts.. ghetts- daily duppy Ghetts- karma ( there’s no video jus audio but it’s like a movie in your head.) These two are a must🔥🔥keep up the grind fam✊🏽
I'm not 100 percent sure so don't take my word for it but a few years a go RedBull made an event called culture clash which involved Grime artists, Drum and Bass artists and Asap Mob and they all played their music to a huge crowd and who ever got that most votes wins. So Asap Mob might have linked up with Skepta and his crew through that and Drake was always looking at U.K music in one of his old, old interviews he mentioned watching London hood documentaries and he kept shouting out Skepta and posted one how his battle raps on Instagram saying something like when you think you're at the top of your game there's some other rappers killing it (paraphrasing that a little) and he kept dressing like a London goon and using our slang and he shouted out Skepta and they just met up after that.
2005. Most were in Roll deep they did concerts in New York back in the day. Ghetto is now called Ghetts he's huge has been for long time. The godfather of grime is Wiley. But there all great. Frisco flows are smooth hes legendary. They still doin alot. Skepta was a dj at first he's gone back to that. There spittin bars off some of there other tracks. Look you'll find 100 times better than this. Look up Sidewinders there grime raves there wild asf
If u wanna listen to a real grime set were artist do a hour set check out wildest dizziness rascal and slimzee at a rave called sidewinder and cut a bit out to react too it's one of the best grime sets ever

This was a Boy Better Know (Skepta, Frisco, Wiley) vs Movement (Scorcher, Wretch and Ghetts) clash.
You're a G bro. I'm from London but NY hip hop was my life growing up. It's dope that you are exploring our music now!

Bro how haven’t u dun k Koke Areias alone fam the vid is raw
ASAP J everyone sleeps on Koke even thought he was compared to giggs at one point
ASAP J Koke is real as it gets maybe cos he’s white but he really lived that life real og
Stickz Mayhem yh maybe cos he’s white but he grew up in a very African/Jamaican area and he has really been on the streets and dosnt like in his music

“There’s no introduction needed I’m a genius” 🔥🔥
That’s deffs 2005. Cause of the beats. It’s that old school grime beats and UK speed garage Bassline/4x4 niche type beats.
Yeah this is ancient, still sick.
Best bit is when Skepta tags in
I don’t know if you ever got the full story but there was a documentary by The Movement, they went to pick up Scorcher from jail and at the time The Movement (Ghetts, Scorcher, Mercston, Wretch and Devlin) had beef with Boy Better Know (Skepta, Frsico and Wiley + more) as they were walking around the endz (the hood) they run into each other on the streets and were like well you have cameras let’s see who’s the best but it was mainly Ghetts v Wiley but it was always on the mic, they would do songs together and still diss each other on the songs

Shutdown was I think the one that blew in the states then obviously the praise the lord tune with asap just blew up pretty much everywhere
Skepta went big with Shutdown and his performance in Shoreditch where he illegally put on a show in a random car park.
