This new Settlers 'game' is... 1) 100% the result of a developer (Ubisoft) 100% IGNORING all that was good about the previous games... 2) 100% the developer IGNORING EVERY fan and purchaser of those previous games, and instead... 3) Producing something which has been so dumbed down as to render this nothing more than suitable for someone at kindergarten. 4) According to director Christian Hagedorn, the team had to redesign the game as the gameplay systems they originally designed were overcomplicated --> THAT'S(!!!) about as fkn braindead an attitude as it gets, an attitude becoming more and more widespread with today's devs.
I understand what you mean and it can be frustrating. The whole series needs a reboot. This is a cosy version tbh. If it’s going to bring in other players that’s great. This could be the first of a long series of new Settlers games. You’re right. They need to get the players opinions but also find out what works in the current market.
I started yesterday. As a Crusader Kings, and Anno 1800 player, this is too oversimplified. But dont get me wrong, its S O beautiful and cosy plus is a nice game generally that I enjoy very very much!
Nice review. Short but to the point, I like it. Are there similiar games that you can recommend to play handheld on the Switch, that are good to just play around 1 hour at a time before going to bed? I liked playing the settlers on PC years ago, but also games like Roller Coaster Tycoon (the one on Switch does not appeal to me like the original on PC did).
I used to love those games too! ☺️ There’s a good dungeon crawling game I’ve been playing called Endless Dungeon recently which can be as long as your tactics! I hear there’s a few games like RCT that are making a comeback too! Have you tried No Mans Sky?
@@prattymattygg I've played them all 😀. I had Settlers 1 on the amiga as a kid and loved it. Settlers 2 is the best, with Settlers 3 being very entertaining. The others were ok, but fell off from the freedom aspect i liked. I'm never sure if it's a combination of age, stubbornness and rose tinted glasses but i do fall into the category of disgruntled player of Settlers with Allies. It feels devoid of the life of the previous ones, even the ones i liked less. I guess its natural for the evolution of games and the money-models of companies behind them. Games are a product of their time, and i'm not the same as when i played Settlers 1, 2, 3.
@addictedfoolgamer1970 Sounds great! I’d love to be back playing that era of games again for the first time! I really enjoyed S2 when I played it. Unfortunately I agree. New Allies has certainly got life but there’s something about it that doesn’t connect and keep me playing.
I’ve been really enjoying the game going through the story and sometimes AI skirmishes. Like you said it’s stunning to look at and feels great on console definitely is slower paced . Not really for a competitive style of play but it’s oddly relaxing to play in my free time just building up and fighting 😊
Great question. Not at all really! Age of Empires is a lot more tactical and has a lot more components. This game, whilst fun is a lot cosier but has a few shared mechanics.
You know I just brought this and I must say it’s the best settlers game to date. I don’t understand why so many people don’t like this because it’s a great game. This is so much better than pioneers of pogania. The graphics requirements are very low as well compared to that game. The pioneers version is by the way is not the new settlers game at all. The devs should never have developed it with those high end graphics requirements. Most people today have a laptop that only supports only a UHD graphics card only so why would these stupid devs develop a game like pioneers of pagonia. I will say that the settlers new allies is far the best game out today. It’s simple and plus the graphics are superd.
I loved the graphics and the in depth characterisation of the world. It’s a slow game which I guess some people didn’t like as much! A little more freedom in base building would be nice but it’s a game I keep coming back to.
Thanks for clarifying. Where did I miss the mark as a new player? Not a lot of great ‘spirit’ in the comments generally so forgive me if I’m trying to find out more!
The defining characteristic of past Settlers games has been the complex supply chains. Combat was a later addition to the franchise. By streamlining that aspect, they are taking the series in a different direction.

heya, did you play any of the other settlers games? Which ones did you like best?
I played a fair amount of Settlers 2 and 3 but that was a loooong time ago! How about you?

Settlers 6 was my favorite
This is gettin really bad reviews for console.. especially skirmish mode
It’s such a shame to see, especially as it feels nice to play! The skirmish mode definitely needs some work.
Me like@
Would you say it’s like age of empires?
Not really. Its the same type of idea in base building etc. This game is more about resource management and supply lines than building massive armies!
@@prattymattygg thank you 😔 I wish they would make one simile to Age of empires or halo wars
@therazor9927 ooooh. Halo Wars 👀
As a civ 6 fan, will this seem familiar?
No unfortunately. A very different game. 🙂
@@prattymattygg thank you for the reply and honestly. I still may have to try this game out.

how comparable to age of empires is it?
Great question. Not at all really!
Age of Empires is a lot more tactical and has a lot more components.

We need age more games like age empires and Halo wars on switch 😒
So this new version has no free mode or sandbox mode is that right?
There’s no single player part. It’s all live service. A bit of an error on their part tbh!

Tell me is there a map editor for the game?@@prattymattygg
There’s a sandbox mode now as of the last patch.
This is a horrible RTS game and all it has going for itself is "pretty" pretty pictures. Is Matty a bought and paid for reviewer
ofc he is lol

Can you expand further on what you mean my dude?
