You can think of 33609/N as Neve's modern take on the original "metal knob" version, with hand-wired transformers made to the original 1970’s Marinair specs, a return to toggle switches rather than the large square buttons introduced after the “J” version and a new fast/slow compressor attack setting. Kind of an "enhanced" metal knob re-issue, with a slightly cleaner "modern" sound overall... 👍
You can´t even hear the difference through your cheap Neumann rooky speakers. You should have rather invested the 4k for the 33609 in reasonable monitors.
@@AlanMorrisTV yes, cheap monitors, ok for beginners but made in China. If you really wanne hear a difference in the mix you need strauss elektroakustik, atc, guzauski swist, pmc, or Barefoot. Every other monitors are excuses and compromises, like your Neumann.
@@Pottwerke Of course there are even better ones, I've already heard the Strauss monitors extensively in a studio, they sound fantastic, but they're way over my budget with 70k. I can work with the Neumann speakers, they are pretty good even for that price range of 5k together with the Neumann KH750 sub and calibrated with MA1. What is your opinion on the ATC SCM25A Pro MKII?
Bravo ! I always liked your videos demo of gear, I find them the most interesting because me being 61, I don't always hear the subtil differences of audio gear, but your demo videos made clear what's happening, and I can hear clearly the differences between bypass and active. I had the same impression with the video of Gainlab Audio Dictator you made a while ago, and I bought it. I can not buy the Neve 33609 because I already have the Heritage Audio HA-33609A that I love very much and which is more affordable to me. I assume that the Neve might be a little better though, but if money wasn't an issue....😀
Hi Michel, many thanks for the kind words - glad you find them useful! And yes, we're big fans of the Dictator here - Gainlab are a great company to deal with 👍
do you think for mastering is necessary that Side chain or HPF that have some more new compresor so it don't react so much to low frequencies. or no. or just a slow attack can do the trick ?????
Everyone goes on about the old metal knob version, but I like this one. It's crisp.

I think we're looking at Terry CEQ or Manley Massive Passive next, but we'll put it on the list 👍
