I watched the first movie before sunrise when I was 17, I loved it and kept imagining myself being in such event. At the age of 23 I met a girl at a similar event as the movie portrayed. We've been together ever since.

I went to Amy's funeral when I was 17. Her mom was the best teacher I ever had, totally changed my life. And I knew none of this about Amy until last night.
Jeff, thank you for this video. I came across the name "Amy Lehrhaupt" last night after watching the second movie (I loved it, like the first) and reading more about it. Amy's last name is so uncommon that reading it froze my blood. Then I saw the date she died and watched this video, and I knew. I talked with her mom about it briefly last night, to confirm.
I'm sharing this now with former classmates who also went to the funeral. So far, none knew any of this about Amy.
I still have images of that day in my head, of the sun shining in the Matawan parking lot when there should have been rain. That day -- and Amy's mom -- changed so much about how I came to see adults and the world. And I came to cherish Amy's mom even more. If you'd had her as a teacher, you'd understand. My friend described her as a monolith of a presence, and it's true. Karen Lehrhaupt was -- and is -- as formidable a woman as I've ever met, an absolute tornado of a teacher in the best of ways. We learned that day how fragile and human even the strongest people can be.

Thanks for the note, Daniel. It’s a nice example of the internet at its best, allowing people to make connections that they otherwise would never have made. So you must have grown up in the NJ area.
It was evident to me that Karen Lehrhaupt was a special person, because when I contacted her out of the blue, she could have easily hung up on me. Instead, she sensed that my project was a positive one, and was very helpful and forthcoming.

Wow im astonished. You can really see the amy reflected in the character of celine. The way Cassandra spoke about Amy is just the way Celine is portrayed. This is so heartwarming yet heartbreaking to hear. Her life has been so honoured and gratified, inspiring tons. Not only appreciation for the film but those who inspired it. Thank you for giving us insight and sharing to the rest of the world. I've had my own Before Sunrise experience recently and everything touches a great spot. The humanity, art, and beauty of life and this film has no words to do it justice.

Last night I found out interesting information about this movie. I was visiting my grandfather and his wife (my grandparents are divorced so I am not actually blood related to his wife) when his wife told me about this movie. Her cousin is actually Amy Lehrhaupt. She was heart broken at the time of her death and had no idea about Amy ever meeting Richard Linklater until very recently. She googled Amy's name and found out about this movie and how the encounter Amy and Richard had inspired such a meaningful movie.

I see what you mean , It made you believe in ' HOPE ' again . It is truely an all time movie , I felt that this ' low budget ', ' off teh cuff ' flick was destined for a certain ' greatness ' and it was . It made me dream and a lot , I think mine came true . Not quite like this but the ' outlandish possibility ' of so bueatiful actually occurring never occurred to me , never would have thought but apparently it did . I'm still pinching myself. ' Dreams ' , ' Happenings ' do occur , its not a joke ,or impossible.

The true story connects still with the themes of the films, 'what could have been, what should be, and what is'
Thank you for this video, it deepens the power of the film and expands it. You never know the influence you have on someone else and the influence you may provide long after your death. If you asked Amy Lehrhaupt in 1993 she likely would have laughed at the idea of her inspiring one of the greatest expressions of romance in art.

There were so many qualities that Amy shared with her mother that speak to the person Richard Linklater met that special night in Philadelphia. Both were beautiful, vivacious, outgoing, creative, and engaging. What a pleasure to see Amy's smiling face again through the beautiful photos you shared.

Holy moly, you don't know how much I've cried with this video. I'm kind of a nihilist, but all around these movies seems like a breeze of air. This isn't a movie about romance, as this toxic notion of love that is very common nowadays, not about destiny and all that bullshit. It's about connection, it's about showing reality and human interactions as they are. What makes me cry the most is the whole context of the movie, as it is the perfect example of butterfly effect. Who would have told that the simple act of living life to the fullest, being curious about life and in the constant goal of improving and growing everyday, would have inspired a man to create the most wonderfull trilogy while changing his whole view of the world (his whole cinematic career we could say starts just this encounter, since his cinematic style is mainly defined with Slacker, 1991). And thus, changing our whole view of the world as well (thank you internet and movie theaters). Now this comes from my personal experience, but his movies have really helped me struggling with my crisis and self loathing, and I really think have even shaped the way I interact with people and even see life itself.
So thank you Amy, because you've made all of us start living life in a new and more beautiful way.

Brother you should check out Eric Rohmers work….he made films like ‘Before Sunset’ in French even before Richard Linklater did…..his films are way more sophisticated than Linklaters work….although Linklater is also quite good…but Eric Rohmer is the one who started this trend and was the inspiration behind Linklaters movie style…

    • @thewildmitchell
      @thewildmitchell 9 месяцев назад

I’ve never related to a comment so hard and this other guy’s recommendation to watch Eric Rohmer has me gobsmacked - nobody I’ve spoken to has ever heard of him haha.
I wouldn’t say his films are better than this trilogy but A Summer’s Tale and the Green Ray are definitely worth a watch. All rohmer’s films are much like the trilogy, driven by rich (and often pretentious) dialogue between 2-3 chars and beautiful scenery.

Sadly the reality is even more melachony or tragic than the sequels itself. Fun fact, I was born at 1994 and 24 this year which I guess is around the age Jesse meets Celine or at least I think its around Ethan and Julie's age, just saying .
Again, thanks for making the call Amy's mother and Casandra, the person who wrote the letter did something special to the director, you have done something special to all of us by taking these actions. Like you said, we should give our best self to every soul we touch in our live.

I had always loved the first movie, but now it's even more special to me. Amy was a fabulous lady and an inspiration to us all. This is the passion with which we should live our short time we have. Thank you for this film

Hi, this video came up on my feed today. Thanks for sharing, it is a wonderful story about an interesting person. I have not seen the movie, Before Sunrise, but I will be sure to look out for it. It sounds like a very romantic movie.
    P. S. Like I said a few weeks ago, "you're very romantic." Have a great day!

I saw this movie many years ago and really loved it. Not cause it has this hopeless and romanticly be in some random country and have this novel like experience ... yeah, that too but you knw, it had this uniqueness that no other movie ever captured really, for me atleast. 🌠
Today, somehow I couldn't sleep and was scrolling through my social media when i came across this quote from this movie (BEFORE SUNRISE) and it did made me feel good remembering the movie. But, then i remember, someday randomly somehow i read somewhere that " There was some girl who inspired the director of the movie Before Sunrise for this movie ". And I searched for the story on youtube when i found your video. ❤
Thank you so much for this video.
Fact : I really did wish, I could meet some girl this way, just for the sake of it atleast. 😂
