I would love to see a video explaining how you layout the lettering to get the correct spacing, it appears you do it all freehand. There are many videos on hay to paint signs but very few on layout. Thanks love your work
Hi Dave, I'm an ex signwriter and was for many years. The spacing of lettering can best be summed up as equal area space between all letters. L's W's etc need to be adjusted closer together for example. It takes a while so to space out a word like ALWAYS the A would start a little further left of measured left from centre for example. The L and W would be tucked in close to each other. You also need to establish the Areas you're going to use between letters before hand if based on if you have plenty of room or don't. Many decisions need to be make before you even start. Not sure I'm helping but like most things its best learnt as you go watching someone else do it and lots of practice.
Great stuff. I was a signwriter for many years and have never seen a layout technique like this before. Your use of flat ferruled brushes was also something that surprised me as well but I figured what you can get from what is available to get the job done, right?
