The new character sprites look so good! Seems like you’ve come so far in such a short amount of time. With the amount of detail and complexity in not only the art, but the code, I assumed you were a seasoned game designer and programmer when I saw your 1st devlog almost 2 years ago. I was impressed then and even more so now watching Chef RPG progress and improve as you continue to grow as an artist and game developer. It’s not only fun but incredibly inspiration for the rest of us indie game dev. I can’t wait for the next update!
I have to give credit to all the amazing tutorials during the first couple months, cause I don't think I could figure out some systems even now - like build mode, pathfinding, and large save systems even now. A great one was a channel called Kryzarel. Anyways glad these videos are helpful and hope it inspires some people!
omg the new character sprites look fantastic!! the combination of someone with architectural experience, a character artist and a sprite artist sounds very powerful

Thanks a lot for backing us Kai! Tbh this game probably won't be possible without you guy's support on Kickstarter - or would take 10 years to finish hehe
one thing that I think would be interesting to do in chef rpg would be that the npcs really do things, like the fishermen collecting the nets and cleaning the fish, that you have to wait for the butcher to serve another customer who has blinded before you, the tourists taking pictures with cyberpunk cameras, things like that, because whenever I play a game I think it's weird that the npc stays in the same place day and night, like something synthetic that doesn't fit with the world. ps: I appreciate your effort, keep striving and focused.

Bro, I think I have almost a year following this Project and it's looking incredibly amazing. I cant wait for this game to be released. The Pixel Art-Style to the gameplay we've seen, it's beautiful and amazingly amazing dude, and it definitely looks like a worthy Game to buy and Play for hours.
Wow you did more in 2 years than I've done in almost 2 decades... Your video is incredibly inspiring (and surprisingly casual for the amazing feat you've achieved so far) and you made me realize, I really gotta step it up!
OOOH ! IT IS SO GOOD TO SEE THE NEW IN-WORLD CHARACTER'S SPRITES ! also some of the latest decors look soo insane ♥️ you and clement did such a great job 😄
omg, your progress is so amazing and inspiring!! i love your artwork, and nikita's sprite work is so memorable (i'll be thinking abt them for a while). i can't wait to see this game in completion! keep up the good work!
I've been following this channel and your journey since the fall of 2020 and it has been amazing to see the growth. I'm a pixel artist with dreams of making my own game and it's incredibly inspiring to see you cataloging the process you've taken. Thank you for sharing with us!
All of this is absolutely beautiful and incredibly inspiring. Thank you for both this exciting game to look forward to and even more so for sharing your journey to get there. The heart and soul put into these indie games is what has kept this industry alive for me and gives hope for what is to come. Thank you!
i love all of the new features! i remember finding your channel when i was beginning to look into pixel art game design awhile ago because i had a concept, but had no idea where to start. i was amazed by your work! watching your videos while i worked on my own art was always nice background noise and i could learn a couple things about pixel art and architecture in a game design context. Seeing how far it’s come in the part months is just great, especially when it keeps improving. the new sprites are so adorable and all of the scenes and maps are so immersive and pleasing. I hope that I will be able to buy this game when it releases!
you went from no game dev experience to developing a really nice looking game backed by a kickstarter campaign... which is something many people cannot do on their first try! Very impressive, keep it up!
It's really amazing to see someone without any game design knowledge or never done pixel art before have done so much in just 2 years. Kudos to you! This is a game that I would definitely try when it comes out. Don't rush you are doing great!
I really like the path this game is going towards, the world looks and feels alive yet captivatingly out of this world. I would love to help you in a way, English and Turkish are my primary languages, so you can reach to me if you need any translation work to Turkish in the future, since that's all I can do :))
I happened on your channel as a random recommendation from YT and I sat and binge watched all the videos rn. I love the concept of this game so much. As a newbie pixel artist your art is inspiring. Cant wait to play this game, I’m very very excited.
With all my heart … this exactly what I always dreamed of doing. Creating my own world, storyline and characters. I just got several rejections from universities and feel pretty depressed and like I don’t get anywhere. Watching your videos really inspires me. I might start to play around a little with simple game creations, pixel art and coding. I props will never archive what you did but this video reminded me of what fantasy can create. I can’t wait to play this game once it’ll be out!
It's been amazing to see not only the game progress over time but you too :) Your skills have clearly imporved and the passion and heart you've put into this game definitely shows!
Clement will be very happy to hear! Yeah definitely learned a lot through the process. Ideally I wish we didn't have to redraw so many things, but it's the downside of starting a big project without much experience hehe. Getting there
This looks like my exact kind of game, love to see the improvements you've made in programming and even the pixel art. I used to follow tutorials on deviantart and some of them where genuinely useful for explaining things like shading, colour palettes and avoiding common mistakes
Just wanted to say thank you for being such an inspiration (you convinced me to start architecture school) and for sharing your game dev process! The town and building designs look amazing, and the new character sprites are such an upgrade! Looking forward to future updates~!
I’m so glad RUclips recommended this video to me! It’s so interesting to see your working progress, all the hard work you’ve put in is amazing! So excited for the release, absolutely love pixel-art games and especially games like these
I'd pay $100 to play this. It looks amazing. The atmosphere feels very fitting. The city feels alive and I love that the NPCs say little blurbs. Are you going to feature more important NPC'S that you can build relationships with? Or pets etc?
Haha it's a great day for indie developers if we can charge $100 for our games =P Yes, the main NPCs will have relationships, daily schedules, and quests. We are planning to add two or three pets - dogs & cats. Everything can always be expanded a lot more though, and a lot of content could be added after the initial launch.
It's incredible to see how much progress you've made! I've been watching your videos for quite some time now and I'm very excited for it's release in the future. I wish you the best of luck developing this new gem!
This was so interesting to see and I love the improvements you showed us, like the UI of the restaurant schedule is really cool and I also really like the idea of at first staying at a shabby hotel - this kind of gradual improvement is always one of the pleasures of games like Harvest Moon etc Another important part are the characters (at least to me), now that you've shown them a bit closer and talked about them I am really curious how much we get to know them and what they have in store for us. I can't wait for this game, but I am also just as much looking forward to these videos.
Really appreciate it :) The characters will be a major chunk of the work coming up - something exciting and scary at the same time. They will have relationship systems, daily schedules, and quests. But will try to balance that with not taking up too much development time hehe
CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS GAME. i just love the story of how you got into chef rpg. it's looking amazing, the u.i. is so so so beautiful. the opening/closing sliders with the time of day art? just perfect so unique
im so inlove with the aesthetics of the game, im also an architecture student and i love games and art like this, it feels so cozy! im so amazed with your designs!
It’s incredible how far you’ve come in this short amount of time. You can be very proud of yourself! Creating a game this charming requires some serious effort and determination! I’m looking forward to every new video ☺️✨your game is going to make a lot of people very happy 😌🌻
This video popped up on my recommended videos, I didn't even realise you had a YT* channel and I'm glad I found it, I really enjoyed this video and seeing how far chef RPG has come so far. I already have the game wishlisted for a few months now, not sure if I saw it in an indie showcase somewhere but the moment I saw it I got so excited. I can't wait for this game, it looks gorgeous and find a new approach to cooking and RPG elements combined refreshing
I’m so happy for you! I’m glad the Kickstarter worked out! I love your art and pixelated style, and I can’t wait to see the finished game. I usually don’t play restaurant/cooking games since they stress me out (plus I work in a restaurant irl) but I will definitely give your game a try.
Ahaha I can imagine working at a real restaurant will be very stressful. I'm aiming for a fairly relaxed game here so should be very chill compared to a real restaurant :)
Seriously can't wait for this game to be released. I absolutely love the pixel art style you have and every time I watch your dev logs I just suddenly feel inspired and motivated to go learn and draw some beautiful pixel art... although they don't turn out very beautiful lol. Definitely going to keep following you and the development of this game
I'm glad RUclips recommended this video, this is so amazing! 🤯 I'm looking forward to watching the rest of your journey and hopefully play the full game in the future, good luck 👍
The amount of patience and dedication you have to take on such a large task singlehandedly have is incredible. The game looks fantastic and I can’t wait to play it someday.
Wow this is gorgeous!! I just love the style, especially the way the skies change when you change how long the restaurant is open. I can’t believe you’re so new to pixel art! I also really adore the new character sprites. I wonder if you will implement reactions from NPCs when your character is running through town pointing a bow at an injured boar 😂
Ahaha in the final game, there probably won't be a crazy boar hunt amidst a crowd of people :) But reactions to your player is a great idea. We can definitely think about ways to implement that
Can't wait for the game to came out! Your project is the first kickstarter I've haver backed. Also I really loved this video full of informations about the history of Chef RPG and your own background. Good job mate, really looking forward to it
I LOVE the new character designs, that’s literally the only thing I was unsure of when I saw the kickstarter. I cannot wait for the day I get to play this lovely game :)
I can’t wait to play this game! Every time you come out with a new video I’m so excited to see your creativity in action. Loved this reflection on the process so far!
So happy to hear the kickstarter was successful enough to let you put your all into it. Been following this for almost a year. I'd be interested to see you explore some of the ideas you set aside due to being too complicated in the future!
as a games arts student, its been really fun and exciting watching your progress with this game! im glad ive given you my support on kickstarter and im looking forward to seeing where this game goes :) will we be getting a video about the character customization sometime soon? i dont think youve shown us that yet ! :)
Thanks for backing us Juno! There was an earlier devlog that talked about it. I need to update the character creation system this month anyways, so can definitely mention it in the next devlog!
You sold me about the fact you took real life inspirations of buildings, colour, to create the design and not make it look repetitive. I think one of the biggest breakthrough for this game to succeed in my opinion would be the storyline and the actual gameplay. The artwork is A+ and I would buy the game in a heartbeat just because of that. But the user experience and storyline would propel it to the award-winning level if that's being nailed - looking forward to the final piece!
I've been watching your videos as early as I can remember. Honestly I was here for the pixel art (because in the pandemic, I've been in a path of trying out new things and pixel art happened to be one of them) but seeing your game development journey, you've inspired me to try programming (I did programming in school before but not these intermediate levels of programming haha). Although I've been making some fun text-based adventure side projects I do want to create the same level of yours someday. Otherwise, I seriously wish you the best and I can't wait for the game to come out! Cheers!
Thanks Rori :) I think programming for games isn't too difficult. This is a more complicated game coding wise, but even then, most of the features can be found through tutorials or slowly learned as you develop the game. Best of luck with your development journey!
Thanks for sharing the process behind the cool videos you share. You’re really a talented creator. I’m so glad you believed in your instincts and can’t wait to discover the final product!!
The dedication, the quality of the art, different mechanics. I am so impressed how much you have accomplish and you did it alone, I can't imagine the amount of patience and perserverance that you had to put into it.
I clicked on this video because the thumbnail was cute and I'm interested in game design now. And I was pleasantly surprised I didn't know you were an architect! It's funny cause I'm graduating from archi school next month and lately I've been thinking about learning game design as well! Your path is definitely inspiring! I love the aesthetics of the game. Super cute! Congrats!
A couple ideas I have for the game: First, things to make sure about just in case (you’ve probably thought about it already): -make sure the gathering does not lead to grinding that isn’t fun: it has to avoid repetition and feel rewarding… the best gathering systems help encourage exploration of the overworld -make sure the employees can’t be overworked by the player without consequences -Make sure to test wether or not your game is inherently fun to play with (sound design, animation, good controls and interesting mechanics are key. A simple gameplay loop is just a simple gameplay loop) For additions: -one or two characters you could build relationships with and get actually closer to (maybe date?) would be super fun. Doesn’t need to be 10 options like other games do, just having one or two characters you can romance in an RPG is often fun! -i think a bike, roller skates or a motorbike would be a great addition for the option to move faster around the map. Bonus points if it’s actually really fun to move with them (think sound design or other characters reacting to you rolling their way, pushing them out the way)! Fast travel is okay, but fun movement really takes travel to the next level.
I love your pixel art style! You're so close to 100k, and you definitely deserve it :) But one thing is, inside the restaurant it looks like the screen gets a little filled with dialogue / text bubbles
Yeah never thought I'd ever be reaching that milestone. Pretty crazy. Think you are right. Can reduce the amount that pops up, and maybe add a semi-transparent effect on mouse over.
Been keeping up with chef RPG for a year now and it's been a great journey watching this game get better and better. I can't wait to finally be able to play the game! :)
I'm curious about your sound design. Its a really beautiful game visually and I reckon if you had robust sounds it would amp it up. Such as environmentally sounds in the cities and forests or the sounds of the kitchen. The sounds of crowds growing in a restaurant could add a lot to the atmosphere. I'm not sure if you've already implemented a good sound system but just some thoughts.
We have some basic sound effects, and will be implementing a proper sound system in a couple months once the finished music starts to roll in. Unity already has a great 3D sound system (sounds are quieter if the object is further away from you). You are right that the busy areas will need some careful sound design
Hii, im currently on the 6th semester of my architectural study and things are starting to feel dull. Making pixel art brightens up my mood and seeing this video has given me a boost of creative energy that i needed! Thanks man!
Im currently studying architecture and I have always had a love for coding, game design and art. Its crazy how im in the same boat as you. I am not sure if i should carry on or change paths.
Your videos are the ones that hit me the most out of all the things I've seen since I've started looking into game development. Not only because they are full of amazing content and well made, but also because artistically, and from a gaming stand point, this is what really attracts me. I have no doubt your game will be amazing, and I'm very jealous of how efficient, talented and hardworking you are. I've always struggled a lot with being productive, putting myself to work and being motivated for my projects. I'm working on it and currently doing some progress but, it's very hard for me to get a lot of work done in a respectable time. I hope that soon I'll be able to do that, just like you are :)
Nice job man! I've had this idea of creating a cook-related game for a while, mostly daydreaming, the game would have cooking mechanics included but is not the focus, the goal is about making a pleasant experience, create dishes in-game that are so beautiful that it makes you want to cook in real life, discover real life ingredients and their use cases, adding some nutritional info but not in a bloated way, add quests/minigames for rare ingredients... I'm studying software engineering but game development isn't in my plans, maybe one day! Btw, I love the new sprites for the dishes and the overall graphics! I'm hyped to play your game, good luck in your journey!
You don't have any idea how much this video helped me! I'm an artist from the countryside of Brazil, and my dream is to make my own game. However, I was terrified and didn't even know where to start, since I only know the "art" stuff, but idk anything about coding and scripting. I have the main ideas written out, and I'm starting to learn the #C language, it's very challenging for me. Still, seeing other people having the guts to do an indie game from scratch, it's soooo inspiring and revigorating! Thank you so much for this, just the fact of you creating and putting it out for the world to see, doing this already helps so many people out there who have the same dream.
You are absolutely crushing it. Easy to see you've taken lessons from all aspects of your life and education to succinctly create an amazing game. Impressed!
One of your best moves was employing outside help. Especially with design being so multi-faceted, seeing how other pixel artists were able to elevate your ideas was awesome. Still gotta absolutely respect the amazing progress with your own skills with pixel art. I can't wait to try this game out one day.
Seriously, this game is genuinely one of the best devlog series that I’ve seen on RUclips, it really does feel special and with lots of love and care put into it
I can't wait to play this game, and I'm in awe of the amount of work you've put in here. My own pixel art and game dev is very stop and start. Your discipline is just legendary!
Love the animated signs! I think the single biggest change you could make is adding dynamic lighting. A flickering streetlight... a wall-mounted torch... fog that picks up the lighting of your neon signs... stuff like that would be transformative to your visuals. The steam in the bathhouse is a great start but I didn't see it interact with your lighting. Same with the fog at the docks. Hades and Hollow Knight both do a great job with their lighting, and I think it adds a lot of dynamism to their visuals. Love your project, and rooting for your continued success!!
loved this! For many years I've always wanted to make my own game but never went through with it...maybe one day. This was such an inspiration to see your journey and improvement.
I adore watching these lil videos! Funnily enough I started watching cause one popped up in my recommended and I wanted to get better at making cross stitch patterns. (Pixel art and cross stitch skills are fairly comparable.) I’m glad I started watching back then. I look forward to when the game comes out!
I am so glad the youtube algorithm recommended your video to me. Congratulations on your upcoming game, brother. Can't describe how much inspiration you have given me. Cheers
I just came across this video and watched the whole thing. I thought it was just going to be a showcase of the game's development but I ended up being inspired to reach for my passion even if it will take a while. I'm definitely getting this game to support you. It's going to be worth the wait man.
I have been seeing your videos for sometime, it really good development you have got there. All the best, the quality is there and you can go to great heights. Like you said there are a lot of topics there that can make you loose your way or confuse you. The best thing is to list out what you want, rather than thinking about it in your head. Once its on paper, it will make more sense to you. Then you can get the better picture and tweak it depending on where you want to take your idea to. Always start small , with a single idea an then as you iterate on it, the rest will fall in place as you get more confidence in handling the project and when you actually get a feel of when the next wave is going to come, then you can be ready to shift focus on adding more functionalities and such. Good job and very inspiring.
Really inspiring video. Can't imagine how you made such a nice game with not too much background knowledge about the different aspects you have to master in order to be a game developer! Good luck and keep going :)
I can see you putting your architecture skills here 6:52 lol very cool! I will have this game for sure! I also graduated architecture in december, but I planned on take a break for a while and play some games in my free time since it's been years since I haven't opened my steam... I played a lot of Stardew, it's my favorite until now, and looks very similar to your proposal of this game! I'm excited to see what will come out of a game made by an architect, the town for sure will look amazing.
So excited to play this! Already put it on my steam wishlist! Love the artstyle and the character sprites! You are doing great and I am really enjoying your videos.
wow.

It's incredible to see how much progress you've made! I've been watching your videos for quite some time now and I'm very excited for it's release in the future. I wish you the best of luck developing this new gem!
This was so interesting to see and I love the improvements you showed us, like the UI of the restaurant schedule is really cool and I also really like the idea of at first staying at a shabby hotel - this kind of gradual improvement is always one of the pleasures of games like Harvest Moon etc
Another important part are the characters (at least to me), now that you've shown them a bit closer and talked about them I am really curious how much we get to know them and what they have in store for us.
I'm always so impressed by what you manage to do. This all seems like an insane amount of work, but it'll be worth it!
im so inlove with the aesthetics of the game, im also an architecture student and i love games and art like this, it feels so cozy! im so amazed with your designs!
I'm looking forward to watching the rest of your journey and hopefully play the full game in the future, good luck 👍
The amount of patience and dedication you have to take on such a large task singlehandedly have is incredible. The game looks fantastic and I can’t wait to play it someday.
This is egregiously beautiful dude!
Didn't know pixel art could look this good. The nighttime lighting/shading has unbelievable atmosphere
Putting this on my wishlist! Your passion is really heartfelt on this video. Looking forward to you and your game's success, man!
Good job mate, really looking forward to it
Thanks a lot for backing us Simone!
Loved the 2 year break down can’t wait to see more.
Absolutely amazed by what you are doing with this game. So excited to see where this all goes! I can barely believe how far you have come in 2 years
This is looking so amazing! The amount of detail is amazing.
Just found your channel. I love this little view of your journey, thank you for sharing it
Great work my man. Super pumped for this to release. Dont rush though :)
Thanks Joe :) Hehe yeah definitely don't want to release with bugs or missing major features.
@@PixelArchitect do you have a discord server for the game?
@@AllHailKingGila Not at the moment, but will probably set one up in the future. Just a bit too much work for the time being
You sold me about the fact you took real life inspirations of buildings, colour, to create the design and not make it look repetitive.
Really looking forward to this one ☝️ good job guys 💚
It's really great to see your process and how far you've come, can't wait to check out the game when it releases!
This guys stuff is so unfathomably, beautifully, amazingly impressive.
this looks very interesting and the way you keep on adding newer stuff to improve is so inspiring! I'll be looking forward for the release!
OMG NIKITA'S DRAWING IS OUT OF THIS WORLD!! IT'S SO GOOD!
It's so incredible what you have been making all this time. I cant wait to see it finished!
What is a rough release date or year ? Lol. This looks incredible. Been watching for a while and I'm loving the atmosphere of it so far!!
Thanks! Likely early-mid 2024, since there is a lot of content I want to add to it, including a second city.
@@PixelArchitect that's awesome
The dedication, the quality of the art, different mechanics. I am so impressed how much you have accomplish and you did it alone, I can't imagine the amount of patience and perserverance that you had to put into it.
Love the new characters and animations!
Our new artist would be very happy to hear that :)
Super cute! Congrats!
A couple ideas I have for the game:
First, things to make sure about just in case (you’ve probably thought about it already):
-make sure the gathering does not lead to grinding that isn’t fun: it has to avoid repetition and feel rewarding… the best gathering systems help encourage exploration of the overworld
-make sure the employees can’t be overworked by the player without consequences
-Make sure to test wether or not your game is inherently fun to play with (sound design, animation, good controls and interesting mechanics are key. A simple gameplay loop is just a simple gameplay loop)
For additions:
-one or two characters you could build relationships with and get actually closer to (maybe date?) would be super fun.
For you just learning to code while being architect and delivering such good quality art is just epic :O
@@PixelArchitect That would definitely help :D
@@PixelArchitect or maybe the size+frequency
Incredible!!! Best pixel art that I've ever seen.
You are absolutely crushing it. Easy to see you've taken lessons from all aspects of your life and education to succinctly create an amazing game. Impressed!
I love everything about this! can't wait to play the game.
As a big pixel rpg fan, you're inspiring me to start my own game.
I'm a big fan of the menus and the sprites of everything, they are sooo clean !
Very excited for your game. I'm also a game dev and I gotta say well done! Subscribed and wishlisted!
So excited to play this! Already put it on my steam wishlist! Love the artstyle and the character sprites! You are doing great and I am really enjoying your videos.
Wow so amazing! Ive seen this floating around a long time ago but looking where you are now, so awesome!
