- Every member of the Smith family harbors fond memories for the family patriarch's beloved '67 Ferrari 275 GTB/4*S N.A.R.T. Spider. To them, the car doesn't so much represent Ferrari as it does the memory of Eddie Sr., this extraordinary machine's extraordinary first owner.
Recently, in an act of incredible generosity, the family has jointly decided to part with the car, donating any and all of the no doubt considerable amount it will fetch at auction to charity-an act that would certainly bring a smile to Eddie Sr., himself a noted philanthropist.
Remembered for his friendly, effusive nature and a love of speed matched in intensity by his love of life, Eddie Sr. was a gifted entertainer who fully enjoyed his frequent visits with Luigi Chinetti to Maranello, as well as partaking in all of the wonderful events offered by the very active Ferrari Club of America.
His family's stupendous gift will serve as a fitting tribute to his legacy.

Take a look good guys, this is probably the last time/footage that this Ferrari is driven, like it should be. It has been sold, and it won't see daylight anymore purely because the value goes up. Business, nothing more. Not for the driving pleasure. Such a waste.
Riles07 I bet he does drive it. His son Lance was just over here racing in the New Zealand Toyota Racing Series and won the New Zealand Grand Prix. i have no doubt it has gone to not only a passionate Ferrari family, but a passionate driving family.

Jews love Ferraris!
It actually came down here to San Antonio a couple of weeks ago.
+Alex K. Put your arm band away and get off this site.
+Ian Findlay, I think that's a bit harsh, don't you? He didn't say anything anti-Semitic. He simply identified a trend. Jews are disproportionately likely to wind up in Television and film. Women are disproportionately unlikely to wind up as CEOs. Men are disproportionately unlikely to wind up as nurses. If merely pointing out these discrepancies makes somebody a "racist," "bigot," or "Nazi," we're never going to be able to hold meaningful conversations about race, police brutality, discrimination, etc. that are so desperately needed in countries like America. People like you who decry *literally everything* as being Nazism or Hitlerian are part of the problem.
This is wonderful to see! Many years ago (2005) I was a corporate pilot. We landed at the airport where this incredible car was kept. We'd heard about some P-51 Mustang airplanes being based there and went looking for them. Much to our pleasure and surprise a friendly mechanic asked if we'd like to see a Ferrari instead. Despite the presence of a Testarossa too, we stood staring at the most perfect car I'd ever seen. I knew nothing about it but knew it was a memory to keep.
I don't think I could bring myself to sell that... even for the 27.5 million it went for.
CDNCarGuy wow! That is a bunch of change!
sure CDN..uh huh..27.5 million..i call BS..

The amazing part is that proceeds to benefit charity
I met the previous owner, Eddie Smith, at a FCA Meet in Savannah, GA back around 1999/2000. He came to the racetrack with a Testarossa, a 355 F1, and the NART Spyder. The NART got most-all of the driving time - the TR didn't even come off the trailer, and the 355 got a few laps in and that's it.
Any price for this car would be an insult...
diioriog lol well it sold for 28 millions
Damn...the windshield alone is a piece of art! Just look at the thing!
I have literally been watching this repeatedly for the past hour and a half because it's so inspiring. The pre-auction estimate for this car was $13,000,000-$17,000,000 and it sold for $27,500,000. Wow...
Love this video, Eddie Smith Sr was a special Man, I remember him bringing this car to Homecoming, sharing his 'baby' along with other sports cars he had. A self made Man that left the Orphanage as many many others had, a few bucks in the pocket and suitcase of clothes. He enjoyed Life and I'm sure he is smiling on his Son and Family today for such a generous gift to charities.
It's the 3rd time I'm watching this video... this week. I've seen it more than 10 times already. Such a beautiful car.
The most beautiful car I have ever seen.
You haven't seen my mk1 lotus cortina! 😁🏁
@@biddlelove2135 Those little Cortinas are pretty cars!
@@aviationlba747 Pretty common, actually !
If you can afford 27 million to buy this car, you can afford anything that happens to by driving it. Honor the man & story by driving this car for pleasure.
“No amount of money would get me to sell my car”
-his dad
“It’s a bittersweet thing but all the money will go to charity”
-his son......6 years after his dad dies
Clearly this man cannot comprehend the beauty of his dad’s car, and he has no sense of sentimental value. This is truly sad, the car will go from having a loving owner to going to an owner with the big bucks, and the money will just go to some bullshit charity. And the great thing about the car was that it was used and driven whereas now it’s going to be stuck on a pedastal rotting from the inside out.
I always was a big Ferrari enthusiast, this 275 GTB Spider might be the most beautiful thing on 4 wheels that I've seen in my entire life... but 27.5 million dollars??? Ok, the money went to charity and all, but the blue chip classic car market is a giant bubble ready to burst. These prices don't make any sense in my honest opinion
(A) These things represent some of the greatest human creations in history. Comparable in some ways to things from a Pharaoh's coffin to the Sistine Chapel to the Apollo Command Module. Except that people can relate to it in a more direct and emotional way, because these cars are on an exclusive list of some of the most sensual things humans have ever witnessed. If they survive, people will care about cars such as these 1000 years from now and beyond when most everything else from the 20th and 21st centuries is completely ignored. And (B), the people who buy them often simply want them, they want to experience them in their lifetimes, and they have to outbid other people who feel the same way. Due to supply and demand, the values of these cars will probably continue to go up unless the world population goes into sharp decline.
This automobile is, in my educated, sophisticated opinion, one of the most beautiful automobiles ever produced. Yes, evern more so than the early Jaguar XKE.
My God rest Mr. [Enzo] Ferrari, and may I, at least once, have an opportunity to drive a N.A.R.T. Spyder before I die.
Can't decide if this is my favorite Ferrari or the California SWB. To think this man owned both at one time is amazing.
Cali SWB all day. Beautiful car.
The cali swb is more beautiful and more elegant i love design the of windshield and there is no side windows or body offer the windshield
And the back fender is so sexy in car language and the rear taillight on both car 100 % perfect
In spec 275 has more advanced engine 4 cam and 300* cc more 5 speed transaxle etc ..
i love both
Cali love the look more
Nart love the spec more
Can’t choose one (;
nice spoder
Sadly from 2030 on all the combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in EU :-( In Germany the Green party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing petrol stations to only one single state operated peoples gas station per city. :-(
Hands down the most beautiful car ever made
Just saying i saw this car in person and took many photos of this while in monterey at the rm auction this car was breathtaking in person
Also it is theorized only about 3 of these cars are left in the world.
Rode in a black GTB/4 coupe this past summer, easily the most beautiful and thrilling car ever to come out of Italy
A truly noble gesture by the Smith family and fitting for such a beautiful car.
I was lucky enough to see that car in person back in 2011 at the Ferrari Club of America meet in Savannah. I was happy to see the mileage listed at over 43,000 at the time because it meant someone enjoyed driving it. Now I know the story behind it.
This Ferrari is quite honestly the most beautiful I've ever seen. Great to see & hear at full noise.
2:36 Look at that. Pause the video here. From that angle right there. Have you ever seen beauty like that? Look how smooth the velvet-like red Ferrari Rosso paint is. Look how the steel bar under the door adds contrast to the colour and the shape. Look at the boat-inspired curved windshield, and the finish on all the parts. The rims, the body, the lights, the decorations, the stunning tanned-leather interiour. They all are as simple as the mind of Donald Trump, yet as mesmerizingly pretty as the sun rising over the Alps. This, if anything, is a true piece of art. Impossible to recreate.
I agree TOTALLY with your appreciation of this BEAUTIFUL car....but the MIND of The Donald is anything BUT simple....like fine wine , OLD Kentucky bourbon, Women, and FERRARIS - it takes some people TIME and WISDOM to appreciate some things in life....HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
Even a year later, this is still possibly the most clunky, ham-handed political metaphor I've read. I mean, it's almost intentionally so.
My favorite classic Ferrari of all. I'm so excited that I will be able to see it in Monterey next month!!!
You HOPE he's smiling.
I saw this very car years ago, perhaps more than once. Looked completely out of place, or rather, everything else looked out of its place on the road. I thought it was a beauty but did not know what it was or how rare. But lots of motor sports in NC so it is not too surprising that one was here for so long. If I only had $27,499,000 I could have bought it!
I was Valeting at the Four Season's Biltmore in Santa Barbara and these two gentlemen in unbuttoned hawaiian shirts pulled up in a Yellow 275 GTB/4 NART. Good God, I wish I could have driven it, but he parked it himself. So it seems that one of the ten is in SB. Could have been a later conversion I suppose.
The only spider i will ever allow inside my house.
It only more people like this existed. I hate people like Ralph Lauren who hide these cars and never use them. Taking this cat out is part of its existence and I'm glad the only dirt on this car is dirt from being on the road and not from sitting. These are the people that deserve these cars.
I'm twelve and I love this channel
My dad recently sold his e39 m5. I miss it :(
That has to be the most beautiful and most perfect sports car ever made. It has been in the hands of people who deserved it, which is why it still exists in its perfection to this day. Petrolicious knocked the ball out of the park once again with this video.
Does anyone know names the songs used in this video?
What a car. Love the story behind it. Great film, 275 gta convertible drop dead beautiful.
this car was auctioned and then the money was donated to charity i think it raised around $10milion
Why oh why does Ferrari so sparcly build open versions of their 12 cylinders. No convertible 512BB or Testarossa (there were after market conversations) only few Barchettas with ugly bows and an even worse softtop, the 575 Superamericana even being only a Targa. And then the 599 got the SA Aperta near the end of its life cicly with only 80 built. Yes, I can see how making them sparce is making them sought after and it is good marketing for the rest of Ferraris products, but on the other hand they let go many sales.
I was always hoping that there will be an open 599, but when the Aperta came and there were only 80 most of them will rot in museum like garages of collectors, not on the road driven :-(
Does anyone know the song name at 5:50?? I have literally watched this video for the past 2 hours straight because it's so amazing.
What an amazing story! I cant believe all those millions of dollars are going to charities! Stories like this are the exact reason i love cars
I love the photography and fonts used in the videos you do, really good in this one.
My great-grandfather was Eddie Smith's grandfather, Marcellus Smith, by his first wife. She died and Marcellus remarried my grandmother, Mattie Sanders. Edward Marcus Smith and his wife died while their children were young, and they ended up at the orphanage in Lexington: Eddie, Elsie May, Marcus, and Willard. Eddie drove his Ferrari to Raleigh, NC in 1972 to visit my grandmother Vallie Mae at the hospital where she was dying of cancer. He met my dad, who said he was a really nice guy.
My grandmother went to the same Childrens home in Lexington, NC. The man who owned this car and her were good friends. She used to ride in it, pretty cool Nana! Crazy it sold for this much. Beautiful car.
This is the worlds most expensive roadcar, a few days ago one of them was sold for 27,500,000 USD !!!!!!!
THX for this video, giving us the opportunity to actually see and hear one driving!
I grew up in Greenwich Connecticut and spent my Saturdays at Luigi Chinetti’s Ferrari dealership where he formed he North American Racing Team (N.A.R.T.) with Enzo’s blessing. I used to call him Uncle Luigi... he was a wonderful man, just a wonderful man.
A great tribute and story of a great Gentleman and, of course, of an outstanding FERRARI - one of the best of stable. Ferrari caps off to the video. It would be somewhat difficult to think of driving the Ferrari everyday, but would love to have the chance!!! Great sounds too!! dt
Beautiful. So much more beautiful than modern sports/super cars.
They don't design cars so beautiful any more.
What a gorgeous piece of property this film was shot on.
damn. he sold it. this car wont be seen.
Such an awesome car and story, I’m binging petrolicious from oldest to newest so apologies for being late to the comment game, but I can say if it was my car and I’d passed, I would want the same thing because it’s going to a good cause and you know the person buying will keep it pristine much like your family, good job
So his dad not only had the N.A.R.T but before that had a 250 California? OMG, talk about driving ans owning some very special Ferraris.
Man if only he had kept the 250 California and that...
Brilliant video, and a very touching sentiment to this as well. Amazing car, and a beautiful family to show such selflessness. Such an awesome story, big ups to the current family, and the big man up there has raised such an epic family for this to be a reality.
Biggest role models ever in a time that we need role models.
Some snook will buy this car, and flip for a profit. Or some big money bags. Will wind up with it, never to see daylight again, rotting away in some unknown location. Too bad.
I may be biased, I own a Manual 360 spider, but I’ve always thought Ferrari has built the most beautiful sports cars of them all. Especially those of the 60s era.
If I am correct, the same person who did the maintenance on this car for many years is the same mechanic who works on my BMW E30 325is. I saw pictures of the car in various stages, and the last I talked to him, my mechanic still even has parts for this car in the back of his workshop.
Selling it is the biggest mistake ..
It sold for around 27 million dollars if I remember correctly. The reason was because the family didn't feel keeping the car locked up in a garage was fair to it. It has been driven all its life, so they felt it was only fair to send it to a new owner that could potentially keep on driving it. Even if not, they gave the car a new chance, and sent all the proceeds to charity.
Absolutely blown away you could sell such a beautiful creation tbh
Touching tribute. I built a model of the Thomas Crown Affair car, have to correct something. I rented that movie for reference material, the two scenes were very short, and the engine never spoke one note, I was really disappointed!
I would love to know how much this brought in from the auctions!
the only way I'd part with that car, is if I couldn't take care of it any longer. I'd drive it until I died, just like his obviously amazing father did.
Steve McQueen out there trying to buy every bodies car.....hopefully his offer wasn’t as cheap as it was when he tried to buy the Bullitt Mustang.
This guy's dad sounds like a man that had a few stories.
I still prefer the wire wheels, I think they were optional. Oddly, I like the closed version, but this is a beautiful car!
I always thought that the 275 was the best looking Ferrari, and this particular one might be the best looking 275...but DAMN! They are expensive!! At least the money went to charity...but HOLY SHIT!
I dont have a small vocabulary, and my point was made very clearly, i could have used a lot of profanity. Or i could have used none. It doesn't define my debating skills, and i never claimed to be a debating expert anyway.
To be honest, it sounds like you're trolling me, but idk. haha in other words, i doubt you have the age to justify calling me "young man"
Because it's not being driven. As a subscriber to this channel, you should understand that cars like these should be driven. These people don't have the time, apparently. Let's hope the next owner does actually drive it. Such a beautiful car should be on the road, not in a garage.
Sold it to give the proceeds to charities, you might as well kiss the money goodbye. Charities are the the biggest scams out there.
These were meant to be driven, a horse can not prance if it is left in it’s stable.
beautiful car but the 250 GT SWB California makes me weak in the knees.
I would never sell this car. It should be kept in the family for generations to come in my opinion.
non ci sono parole...solo bellezza e passione❤️❤️❤️
The Ferrari that keeps giving. Great story. Steve ,i like you but i dont love you.
How is this channel only just nearing 1 million subs? It is such an underrated channel
Awesome car and story.
guys from these videos buy ferraris liek I buy bread, what are these guys jobs?
Its overall sold for $27.5 million. World record set. What a pure beauty!
he sold it to charity?!??! that is sad ..his father would never have approved it no matter what. But its sad that he is not here either.
I'm a medium who just spoke with the dad. He says if you sell it he'll haunt your ass.
How dare this family not feel the same about this car as everyone in the comment section does?!
Breathtakingly beautiful
Being from the Lexington, NC area I hate I never got to see this beauty in person.
Putting an american flag above a ferrari logo is blasfemy, simple as that.
how could you possibly believe that this is prettier than a 250 gt california swb
The most beautiful car ever built, I hope someone somewhere can start reproducing these because nothing today compares
Yes, it is meant to be driven, it really is. But all of these people on here are beating a dead horse. Don't get me wrong now, I'd love to whip it occasionally if it was mine, but I ain't gonna complain about it if the owners don't want to, because it's not my car. Thumb me down all yall want to, but if need be, I would rather have it collect dust in a museum, than to let it collect rust in a junkyard.
They could be right in some ways.... this car is a family heirloom... would you sell your ancestor's one of a kind wedding ring? but I can see what this guys aim is and he's right for doing it... his father would of wanted this because he would want someone who loves Ferraris like himself to have it and give the money away because he's passed and it shows that he's in the right place up there...
I don’t think many people understand how rare and expensive this car really is. If you sold one you could easily buy Ferrari La Ferrari, Pagani Huayra and Koenigsegg Agera R. Yes Dad would kill them for selling this car but only because it meant so much to him. He‘s children like it but don’t appreciate it as much as dad did. Maybe selling it to another car enthusiast would be the best choice so the story could go on. By the way something tells me that money won’t go to charity :D
Back here 10 years later and it’s still as entertaining as when I first saw it
Every thing has it's begging and it's end. So I think it's better that this car will be used for let's say 150 years and one day it will have accident, than stay unused in museum nobody knows for how long. The same with people. I would rather be active for 70 years than life 200years in hermetic room.
They probably have a lot to remember him for, not just a car. And is not like he said in his will they had to keep it forever, would you rather see this car rust to pieces in that garage just to be a barn find 30 years from now being sold for some hundred bucks?
Wow!!! What a stunning piece of machinery, like many on this channel, just built to sheer perfection.
Dad had his first bad day when he watched his disappointment of a son sell this car
Lexington North Carolina. The car now in Canada. The guy that brought Tommy HILFIGER to market bought it and has given it to his 14 yr old son. FACT. I know the Smiths. Ferrari is sponsoring the 14 yr old in his driving career
Well it looks like that family wasn't hurting for money But I wonder If they would've kept the money To divvy up in the family If they would've known that It was going to sell for 25 million Because the original estimates Were 14 to 16,000,000. ??
my gosh, i really dont know what to say. i mean, you got a hold of somebody to has a FREAKING 275 spider and the owner DRIVING IT!!!!!! that's a 26 million dollar car......... if i had to describe your youtube videos with one word it would be "pantomime".
wow.. that is no doubt an amazing car... it's not as crazy as my favorite cars from the 80s like the 388 or f40 but i can see why it is worth so much more. work of art on wheels.. and did you see that engine bay?? clean as the day it left luigi's show room
oh my God that car is so beautiful
I may not be a classic Ferrari enthusiast myself, but I truly appreciate how your channel illustrates the intimate relationship of such beautiful mechanical souls with their prospective owners and the many heart-warming stories behind them! For that, I thank you Petrolicious crew!
i love this channel, but this movie was no more than an advert for this guy to get the money he wants for the car, than the usual movies about the owner and his car.
Please dont let this type of movie become the rule.
The guy obviously didn't want to sell it as it was his car to drive , his enjoyment , Im sure he would now prefer to see MILLIONS go to charities and the car used , rather then it sit hidden in a garage... wouldn't you
