Someone asked him how he racked up all those penalty minutes as such a little guy. He said "The hockey stick is a big equalizer. Only a beaver likes to eat wood, kid."
Ted Lindsay and Gordie Howe held grudges against Jack Adams to the end of their lives for breaking up the Wings in the 50's. They said they could've won more cups but Adams didnt want to pay them.
A LOT of old timers from the Wings hated Jack Adams. Marty Pavelich was Detroit's best checking forward, and he retired in his prime out of spite for the man. Adams was known for humiliating his players in the lockerroom. The players understood him as a drill sergeant who set out to break their individual will, and he specialized in showering them with gendered slurs and personal insults.
Thanks for this. I was unaware that Ted graduated from this moral coil this year. I wasnt seeing hockey when he played but I recall him doing color on CBS game of the week in early 1970s when league was trying to sell the game to more Americans with peter puck illustrations to help explain the game.
The Ted Lindsay Trade is a prime example of the vindictiveness of Jack Adams. The way he treated Gordie Howe was awful. His trading Sawchuck to Boston in 1955 damaged Sawchucks confidence to the point where he was in a perpetual struggle in Boston to the point where Boston essentially gave him back. Glad that era of management is long gone.
Do a video on Jack Adams. If he didn’t trade everyone during the 50s and 60s, Ted Lindsay included, the Wings would have a lot more Cups. He also has a trophy named after him.
Hey Shannon. I’m an oilers fam from Seattle and I wanted to go up to Vancouver for the draft this June. I couldn’t seem to find any information online about getting tickets. Being such a huge hockey fan and a Vancouver resident I wondered if you had any information on nhl draft ticket availability.
If anybody wants to know more about Ted Lindsay's fights with Jack Adams or the NHL owners, they should read the book "Net Worth," or watch the excellent TV movie that is based on the book. Hockey was run by some real macho strongmen, and Lindsay had to fight for everything.
Amazing how the NHL continues to honor the Norris bums that practically owned the league, with James owning three teams and using New York and Chicago like farm teams for Detroit, while Brice shipped Ted out to the last place Hawks for daring to create a union. The defense-man of the year award is named after James Norris. Did he even play a single amateur/pro hockey game?
It's too bad he was never able to win the Ted Lindsay award. He deserved it.
sabresman31 LOL good one Bahd
Mr. Lindsey has done soo much for the game of hockey. I just hope the hockey world gave enough back to him. He will never be forgotten.
“If you want money you’re out” 😂😂😂😂
We do need more hotdogs in the nhl I agree
Almost spit my drink out when Shannon made the Kessel joke...yes I'm 5
Gotta love the synchronized hand clasp with the beep at the beginning.

Rest In Peace Terrible Ted

In hindsight, when compared to Jack Adams and Mike Babcock, Scotty Bowman almost seems polite and humane.
I'm way to young to of seen Lindsay play. However, after watching this video it makes me want to go watch videos of him.
love this story! just watched a short documentary on him that I found here on youtube.
But he couldn't hold a candle to Ralph "Burger" Diggins.

I'm a 21year old Red Wings fan. I love ted.
Love these videos. Would love to see a video on Tie Domi as he’s not some record breaking all star but a great and famous player in his own right
Worst trade ever, yes I'm a Red Wings fan
You're the G.O.A.T THG
from a Red Wings fan thank you for this video =)
He missed a cup with the Hawks by one season. That would have been the ultimate F-U
Nice threads! Gone but truly never forgotten, “Terrible Ted”.
You should do this for all of the players

Given that Richard hated Lindsay, it would have been hilarious to see Terrible Ted awarded the Rocket.
Shanon could you do tim Horton next please
Red Kelly too.
