I was 10 , my Dad had 4 tickets , so took me and my two older brothers . I did NOT want to go , but he said it’ll be over in 3 hours and they’d let me stay up to ring in the New Year . Growing up in Wisconsin , you knew how to dress for the elements , so I don’t really remember being cold . We were sitting on about the 20 yard line near the end zone that Starr had his sneak , so we had a great view . Though I initially didn’t want to go , I am so glad my Dad coerced me into attending . My brothers and I still talk about that day and how fortunate we were to attend that game , AND to be Packer fans .
My Dad took my sister who doesn’t have one ounce of sports in her blood !! I begged to go ☹️he had to leave early. I would have froze solid before I’d ask to leave. Geez I’m still mad about that !!! Lol 😝 that’s a packer fan !!!
My Grandma & Grandpa were at the game, and she said it was like all hell broke loose when Bart crossed that goal line. A very large portion of ppl, to say the least, had a few drinks in them and the chaos didn’t subside for a solid week. I’m so jealous 😂
I was one years old then and still a Packer fan !!! I grew up with that kind of cold (cold really doesn’t bother kids) and usually snow on or right after Halloween. Sledding by Thanksgiving. No spring until end of May. Jumped off our roof into snow as fun ! Had to shovel the roof also- not fun !!! Over 30 years of my life like that. And we will NEVER see it again. That’s why I’m so thankful for people like you sharing these videos of the day !!!! Much appreciated!!! ❤ ❄️ ⛄️ 🥶
Some cool facts about the Icebowl: It is the coldest air temperature pro football game to have ever been played! One of the broadcasters said “well folks, I’m going to take a bite out of my coffee”. While the Cowboys players were bundled up in all sorts of Winter gear, Lombardi let the Packers were only coats, as he thought the Cowboys were trying to psych out the Packers. Packers and Cowboys fans brought in flasks of whiskey to keep themselves warm! The referees made the poor decision of not buying plastic whistles before the game, and one ref had his whistle get stuck to his lips, and when he ripped it off, skin came off and the blood dried the instant he ripped the whistle off his lips, then then just used hand signals. There were some cool facts about the Ice Bowl!!!
I was only 3 years old when this game was played but I'm extremely hooked on it, The history, weather, players etc, Any documented footage or actual CBS footage I can't get enough of.
Me to Jay ! I was only a couple of months old !! 3 months I think ) I would have loved to be a little older during that time !! Such respect, class, work ethic, great music and hair !! Great clothes and respect for woman. I could go on and on. And also the building the of Twin World Trade Center towers were being built. What a beautiful sight that would’ve been !! So I’ll stay in my dream that it was an amazing time frame ! Had to be- we were there 😝👍
Dan Reeves told about how he was sitting on the bench next to Don Perkins and Reeves said, "We must be crazy to play in weather like this!" Perkins said, "Look up in the stands. Those people paid money to come out here and sit in this. THEY'RE the ones that are crazy!"
I was 5 years old, i dont remember the game, but i remember the adults talking about for years to follow, and i played football all winter in Michigan.
Still the only NFL or college team to three-peat as champions since the Great Depression. Mind, body, and spirit, this is the best team in football history.
The main reason the conditions hurt the Cowboys is twofold. The first is because they weren't use to playing in it, but the bigger reason is because Landry's offensive scheme was based on finesse, speed and the big play, all of which was hampered by the icy field. Several years later, the Cowboys altered their approach by getting bigger running backs, such as Duane Thomas and Calvin Hill, who also had some foot speed. They also changed the play calling to focus on the ground game and ball control. The result was they started winning low-scoring games, like this one, and also were able to win under less than ideal conditions.
I was 2 years old, my dad and grandpa went to that game, we lived at 1728 Chateau Dr, 5 houses away from Bart Starr’s house, 10 minute walk from Lambeau!
Pretty sure when Bart moved circa 1972-1975 somewhere close to that, he moved pretty close to Vince’s old neighborhood. It was in Allouez near the river. And yeah I want a cookie too!@@mattharper588
He also jumped early…just check the video. The officials let it go because they knew if they called a penalty on the Packers at that point they would have never gotten out of Green Bay alive.
@@theskicker8856another RUclips idiot. Check your common sense out. Oops. No show. There is an NFL Films' piece whereby Kramer hims and haws when asked if he moved and flinched before the snap. I will always believe Lombardi unplugged the turf heater on purpose to negate the Cowboys speed. On a normal field, there was no way the Packers secondary could keep up with Bob Hayes and Lance Rentzel.
That’s stupid. There’s way more to do than simply pull a cord. Lombardi also wasn’t that kind of guy. If he did do it, they would’ve caught him.
