A correction; The camera used is actually a later model, HDC TM900k. The three CCD's is better for true color. Panasonic now has a later model out but it is very similar to the previous.
Yes this was done with "prosumer" equipment. My first such shoot with HD; A Panasonic TM700K. Relatively happy with it. All the settings were manual except for the focus. Having zebra iris indicator is very important. Would be nice to have one of those three thousand dollar tripods though. I've had a lot of experience Directing (Community TV) and camera operating.
