Off course you can lose weight scuba diving! What a question. My wife Lost seven kilo last march at the Red Sea. It appeared her weight belt wasn’t properly closed 🤣
Regarding losing weight, I started diving at my heaviest, I had put nearly 30kg on over lockdown (working from home, missing exercise, having morale boosters like 'cinema' days at home with tons of junk food). Diving got me moving again, after months of being at the pool for training and helping out loading/unloading the van and getting in the pool, I despaired losing that so much that I carried on, basically volunteering and trying to make myself useful, the exercise helped a lot but the one thing that has kept me going is buying a dry suit! The cost of a dry suit is so expensive (but worth it) that I didn't want to purchase one until I have managed to get down to a better target weight, once I'm there I'll also need to KEEP that weight or face having to fork out again... lost 10kg this month and I'll be happy when I've lost another 30.... by then I will have really, truly earned the best dry suit my pocket can afford! ;) I'm just glad I bought a backplate and wing that can adjust to that change, instead of a vest BCD that would likely not fit with 40-50kg lost! :P
I worked in Dahab as an instructor in the late 90s I arrived weighing 90km I left weighing 70kg, so yes you can loose weight scuba diving. Mind you the Dahab food probably helped.
Very interesting topics. Liked the WW2 one, would love a series of videos on this for the historical aspect. Would love a video or series of videos on the exercise routine for staying in shape and healthy for scuba diving
#ask Mark. What do you think about Beuchat's gear? I know they been in business since 1934 but how reputable is there gear and what's new coming out for them?
No. Probably never happens to anyone but - dry suit dive last weekend, suit leaked - gained several kilos of Loch Fyne and was marinaded like that for a few hours!. My buddy managed to breathe/swallow a fair amount too, when his regulator mouthpiece departed from his reg. Not good!.
Hi Mark, first of all I want to apologyse for my bad english😅 I have my diving-licence since 5 years but I can't dive really often (just 2 or 4 Times a year). I had always problems with the task to take off the mask from the face, because I always got water in my nose and have a little feel of panic, when I don't wear the mask. I want to be a better diver and will dive more often in the future (I just bought my own diveequipment step by step) and I want to determinate the problem before my next dive. I know that training in a checkdive is one of the best ways to handle the problem, but I want prepare myself before this dive. How would you say can I train it on the surface? Thanks for response and have a nice week. #askmark
I'm not from Simply Scuba, but my friends are like that. They said they tried mask clearing in the bathtub and in the shower to get better at it! Just get used to having water in your face as much as possible. I wear contacts and always worry about if I lose them... I got over it by mentally deciding that if I lose my contacts or mask, the dive is over anyways. I'll just open my eyes and head on up as I was trained. Thus, I bring spare contacts for the next dive.
Hi mark! I'm looking to buy a new torcht! I'm from Portugal and most of the dives I do are here at home where the water is green and with some suspension. I'm afraid of choosing a flashlight that's too strong and that highlights the suspension too much, but on the other hand choosing one that's too weak that doesn't penetrate the green water verry well. I'm not looking for budget torches. I prefer something that fits me! What do you recommend? #askmark
No. No one looses weight diving unless you dive 3 times a day, 365/365. WW2 topic is interesting, the Italians were pretty good with that, take a look at the Maiale 🐷 torpedo sub. They even sunk a British battleship. Lots of them died dramatically.

Hi Mark, it seems you don’t update the podcast anymore on the Apple platform. A glitch or a will?

I did 19 dives in 5 days in a live aboard. I was the only one! Pure sheer enthusiasm was my fuel
I find the post-diving beers and Mexican food tend to counter-act the weight-loss effects.
The best thing to have in the world after a dive
deco beer is a must but yeah it will counter the calories lost

When is the podcast coming back? #AskMark
the last podcast will go live on the 31st. I managed to track Shaun down for it
The Japanese had kamikaze divers in Tokyo harbor, that took food with them and could stay underwater for 12 hours.
Mark-Divers prefer warmer months

Not Mark, but I recommend a cheaper OrcaTorch!

It is rather difficult to eat while diving. Ergo, weight loss!
Great video 👍 It's good to have this information out there for noobies and those who aren't aware of the benefits of scuba diving 👍👍 🤿🤿🤿
