    Allen, I'm so glad I found your music. I saw a poster of you at the Baked Potato, finally heard you, and you have become my favorite musician. Your tone is amazing.

    What you say at 5:51 is so true! I remember Don Mock saying we don't have to play "big fat voicings" all the time", and that it was cool to leave some redundant or neutral voices out of the chord. That makes quite a considerable difference, especially if you are working with a pianist, or another guitarist.

      Martinis? Everyone is so different. Maybe build up the left hand strength? I often test students to play scales without any picking and that helps keeping things very even and steady.

    Hey Allen, your videos are very inspiring, as is your music obviously. I listen to your "Falling Up" album every day. What you are explaining about the tone out of your hands and connecting with your instrument makes absolute sense. I'd still be very interested in just watching you setting up the tone and amount of gain to your liking on your RedPlate, or Deluxe Reverb with a pedal or anything. I find it fascinating how your tone is so smooth, with the highend rolled off like you were mentioning, but at the same time the overtones just sing, so your tone doesn't sound muffled at all. I'd love to better understand how much of that is still your great playing, your instruments or maybe a little bit of a great sound from a Dumble style amp? Most likely all of it.

    I really wonder if there is something wrong with me? I see guys like you that I admire talking about straight necks and pretty low action and I go and do that. After a few months something happens and I put 10-11 neck relief and raise the action to high and it sounds 2000 times better instantly. Am I the only one that encountere this ? Great video !👍👍👍

    • @chrislestermusic
      @chrislestermusic Год назад +1

      I don’t think there is anything wrong with you. If SRV had played with light strings and low action it wouldn’t have sounded good…with his technique. There’s a certain percentage of playing to the guitar and what it can do well that is necessary. If you took the guitars of legendary players they would all play differently and so it comes down to personal touch and what you want to hear from your guitar.
