I don't know how much of an unpopular opinion this is, but Rise from the Ashes is my favorite Ace Attorney case ever. Being one of the last cases the original team worked on before moving to Apollo Justice, you can tell that they are pouring every ounce of the experience they gained working on the original trilogy here. It's complex, multi-layered and engaging all the way though, with very little in the way of filler. Sure, they were going all in with the whole Nintendo DS thing but that's something I am willing to see past if we get to play a case this good.
@@xalrath There's few places I find where the story itself actually drags, it's almost always interesting, but there ARE places particularly in the middle where the logic is just kind of not there and so you spend a LOT of time wandering around lost if you don't get it immediately. I definitely wouldn't say there's NO filler (you could cut Angel Starr & her involvement and miss basically nothing for how long you have to deal with her), but I still consider this one of the best cases in the series, and a good tie-in from the 1st game to the 2nd.
Pretty sure this is still the single longest case in the entire franchise (haven't played Investigations yet). Even later in the series when they start splitting the final cases in two (Dual Destinies and Great Ace Attorney) they don't get as long as this

36:20 School is almost all about memorization and regurgitating after all. I remember quite alot of top grade people aswell, who clearly didn't understand anything they were learning, but were great at perfectly reciting it. As far as averages go it actually tended to be the B+ type of students, who reliably understood it, but just didn't memorize it as well down to the letter. The typical A grade students either understood it and memorized it well enough or memorized and didn't understand at all, but still got the same grade, diluting the A grade student pool. And there was definitely a pattern of the people who were the most perfect at reciting stuff falling into the "but also not understanding it" group. If you got somebody who perfectly recited the exact textbook sentence, chances are that one did not understand it. The people who did understand tended to use their own words to describe things, not the perfect text book version.
I like it quite a bit but all the investigations are needlessly dragged out, all the witnesses are kind of annoying and Ema doesn’t hit the highs that Maya hit IMO like it’s a pretty mixed bag. What saves it is the killer who’s pretty much undefeated in terms of AA villains. Easily top 1 in the series imo. Lana is a very unique and well done defendant and it has some of the best Edgeworth and Phoenix stuff in the series, especially in the final trial, so it gets a pass.
Definitely one of my fav cases. While I don't care much for the DS gimmicks, the characters were pretty memorable and enjoyable and damn is it a beefy case. Looking forward to when Woolie gets more into it.
I never pictured Lana setting backwards and just rotating the chair when she does the dramatic Bon spin. Can tell this 2 love this game. One of the most perfect crimes in Ace Attorney, too. It took A LOT to even get close to the truth, no accidental slips which gave away the crime, almost everything was planned to a T
Fellas, if you can slug through this one, then you’ll be able to get through all of the games easy. It’s not the worst case, in fact I think it’s even a great one. *Lana's chair mystery. All endings/options* 15:15 There is one way for her to be able to spin despite it not being a rotating chair, which is if she sat even more awkwardly with both of her legs already on the right side. Another way would be for her to very quickly tilt the chair or drop it on the floor for a moment and then quickly bring it up again after she stepped over it. Or yet another alternative would be if she just rapidly swung her left leg over to the right side and we just didn't see it because she did it so fast.
