I wear mostly carbon plated almost everyday shoes since my kind of run is usually short and fast 5k and 10k and I haven’t gotten any injuries… I thank God. It does work me out still hard since I aim to hit a certain time without looking at my watch until the end of my run. Carbon plated shoes make a run more fun.

New Balance RCV2 and Vaporfly 2 stress my calfs and caused me injury. Need flexibility to keep the stress low on the calfs.

I had this problem with the Saucony Endorphin Pro’s, but not on the Asics Metaspeed Sky’s. My calf’s were absolutely wrecked after a 10K in the Endorphin Pro.

Happy new year! This is what I posted at the EDDBUD's channel on this issue:
"About carbon plated shoes and injury: I think very stiff carbon plated shoes has some injury risks. I had an Achilles tendon injury while doing speed interval workout in Adizero Pro (boost in the heel, lighstrike elsewhere with very stiff carbitex carbon plate) and got a very inflamed Plantar Fasciitis in Saucony Endorphin Pro 1 after a HM race (in which I PR'ed). However, more flexible nylon plate in Endorphin Speed series has been perfectly acceptable for me. I enjoyed the stability the nylon plate added on a squishy soft foam. Definitely there is some changed mechanics as a result of the carbon plate and if the foot is not sufficiently conditioned there is a risk of injury. It is prudent to have a mix of plated and non-plated shoes in the rotation."

This! 💯! The Endorphin Pro 1’s absolutely wrecked my calves in a 10K race. The only true carbon plated shoes that haven’t are the Asics Metaspeed Sky, and Atreyu The Artist. I do have the Adios Pro 3, but I’m with you. I prefer the plated trainers over the racers just because the plates aren’t as stiff, like the Puma Deviate Nitro 2, or the Asics Magic Speed 2. Has just enough flexibility, but not overly stiff. I really liked the Endorphin Speed 1’s, but (as a heavier runner), the midsole was dead after just over 100 miles.
Im really not opposed to plated trainers. I think there is a purpose. I, personally, choose not to run in them every day. Most of my daily miles are done in a traditional daily trainer or a max cushion shoe.

Link to the study? I'd be curious to see what the injuries are, what the sample size was, the programming, and the participants experience with running (trained vs. untrained).

I had problems with the Velocity Nitro 2 with the middlesole collapsing inwards. I overpronate but most of the shoes I ever had are neutral and onky like 5% had any major issue with durability for me.
Puma really needs to raise their game and improve the Velocity Nitro 3 to better acomodate more runners. Most brands do make some kind of torsion system to prevent excessive torsion in the middle of the shoe to have a better dynamic running feeling. At this point the Nitro 2 is far more unstable then the original Asics Nova Blast that also had more stack high of middlesole.
For Puma, maybe the Deviate 2 would be more stable to me, because the plate , but I will not buy it just to test my theory.

I had the same problem with the Velocity 2. It’s not a terrible shoe, just dont work for me very well. I find the Pegasus or Vomero to be a better daily trainer option for me. The Deviate 2 is more stable, but the Nike Zoom Fly 5 is definitely the stable plated high stack shoe I lean toward.
