I love the honest reaction! As far as metal goes, this is like jumping in the deep end of the pool. Quite a huge leap if you've never really listened to harsh vocals. Since you said you'd like to see it live, there's a one-take vocal performance and this song and a few others by Will Ramos, the vocalist.

Yeah it barely gets heavier then deathcore

Harsh vocals take time to learn to appreciate. I didnt like them at first. Also, growls don't use the vocal cords, it uses false voxal cords. They can sound like this with no harm to their voices if they learn safe techniques.

I agree. It can be easier to get used to harsh vocals with bands that use both clean and harsh vocals.

Yeah, even I as a veteran metalhead was a little confused by this song when I first heard it. After about the third listen I was like 'okay that's the chorus'
Anyways, for something a little lighter and more melodic let's do Burn Victim by Metheitch next.

As with most people, the shock value is pretty intense. But the more you listen to this type of music, the more you can appreciate the talent of every member of the band. This type of vocals takes years and years to perfect without blowing our your vocal cords. Great video man.

This genre is SUPER intense. Props to you giving it a shot man. Love to see it. I just got into lorna shore 2 years ago and never really listened to heavy vocals before (besides metalcore). Its almost impossible to understand first listen. Now, i can understand almost every word Will says within the first couple listens. Check out the Pain Remains trilogy. Shit is heavy man, emotionally. First metal song to make me cry. Again, huge, huge props to you for giving it a listen!

I’ve seen them live three times in the last year or so. Can confirm this is just how they sound. Even with the little imperfections in the live show which I appreciate more because it shows it really is Will’s vocals. It’s an amazing experience

You said something about how to strain the vocal cords like that to do this kind of vocals - believe it or not, he isn't! It's called a false chord scream. Humans have fake vocal cords just above the real ones that you can learn to activate intentionally without hurting the real ones, and eventually do sounds like this!
At the very basic level, clear your throat a bit, and feel that vibration in your throat. Those are the false chords, and with some practice you can just keep it going (of course, there's a lot more to it for doing vocals, but it starts there)

  • @edoardopaolini129
    @edoardopaolini129 Год назад +12

The vocals are 100% real. Listen to his 1 shot version playthorugh. The name of the singer is Will Ramos.
Pretty long edit: I will give you some name of albums to pass from rock to deathcore (you will have to listen a lot of metal genres and pls listen to them in this order):
Bring Me The Horizon - That's The Spirit (alternative/arena/electronic rock)
AC/DC - Back In Black (i hope you already know it) (hard rock)
Iron Maiden - The Number Of The Beast (heavy metal)
Megadeth - Rust In Peace (thrash metal)
Pantera - Vulgar Display Of Power (thrash/groove)
Children Of Bodom - Hate Crew Deathroll (melodic death metal)
Lamb Of God - Ashes Of The Weak (groove/death)
At The Gates - Slaughter Of The Soul (melodic death metal)
    Sepultura - Chaos AD (thrash/death)
Demolition Hammer - Tortured Existence (thrash/death)
Morbid Angel - Altars Of Madness (death metal)
Than you are into extreme music. For starting with deathcore, the best album imo is Allegiance by As Blood Runs Black. Than listen to The Price Of Existence by All Shall Perish, Pray For Plauges by Bring Me The Horizon, Doom by Job For A Cowboy and finally This Is Exile by Whitechapel. After this one you can basically listen to all deathcore without any problems.
PS: maybe you noticed that a Bring Me The Horizon album is rock and the other one is deathcore. Yup, they're the same band. They started as a deathcore band and album after album they became more catchy. Their last studio album "amo" is basically a pop album.

Its not for everyone I agree however you mentioned wanting to see it live, the vocalist is will ramos and he has uploaded quite a few live one take vocal performances of this song and others on his own youtube channel, and one on their bands YT channel. He can actually sing pretty damn good as well. He is actually a super nice guy, down to earth from what I've read and seen of him. He actually does all the vocals in an extremely healthy way. He's talked with lots of vocal coaches and even had doctors inspect his vocal chords etc while doing these vocals/screams. It's kind of just a extended hard sigh with mouth and tongue position to make the basis of those sounds. If it's not your thing at all that's completely okay but if you want to give more of it a try this I'd recommend them 100% but maybe some of those live one takes cause you can see Will being a goof sometimes in his studio and that he's not sitting in a summoning circle like it may sound lol

So as to the mixing of vocals and instrumentals, deathcore mixes the vocals fairly equally with the instrumentals because it's viewed as another instrument not the express highlight.

I'm a lyrics person too, as Rap is my favorite genre, along with metal, but trust me that metal has crazy and creative lyrics too, You just need to read the lyrics along with death metal songs, but they are worth it, and this vocalist in particular, Will Ramos, has a very clear enunciation, it's very easy to understand him once You read the lyrics.

Man i you think this is crazy, listen to anything by infant annihilator 😂
Blasphemian or three bastards is a great start. Their vocalist is the major inspiration for will Ramos (the vocalist of Lorna shore). You can clearly hear Dickies influence in that pig like snarl at the end. Dickie invented that 6 years ago (in the song unholy gravebirth) and will did it to kind of pay respect to dickie
Edit: if you are brave enough to listen to infant Annihilator, DO NOT read the lyrics. Like for real, don't

Great, open minded reaction! This stuff is intense, can be difficult to see the appeal in the beginning. There really is magic in this genre but it takes time for your ear to find it, headphones are a must in this genre. This style of music is like the RA The Rugged Man/ Immortal Technique metal genre. Not in the deeply lyrical sense but in the aggression and in your face delivery.
Will Ramos happens to do a live one take of this song without the layering and many consider the vocals on it to be better than the studio version

Like it or not, one has to be impressed with the unique vocal ability of the lead singer (Will Ramos). I've seen a video that put a camera down his throat to look at his vocal cords and they turn from the normal vertical position to horizontal, which is rare). He has his own YT channel and sings in a normal singing voice, which is incredible. I don't know what he's saying in this song and it's not my thing either, but his voice intrigued me.

While this is a good song, it's definitely a "shock factor" song. A lot of their other songs are much more melodic. Still stupidly heavy tho.
Also, speaking about the layering, what's interesting is they layer his "normal" screams quite often, but when he's doing the crazy noises in the breakdowns, there is a lot less vocal processing going on.
For instance, the snarls at the end, they basically came up with that on the spot in the studio and the vocalist went in and did it in one take.

That the most honest reaction to someone who is new to deathcore. That’s jumping straight into the deep deep abyss of Metal with the spikes of Black and Geindcore. You have to ease into this type of music with metalcore, death metal and thrash metal. It’s hard on the ear for any new listener hands down. But that being said these guys are on the top of the game for deathcore leading the pack rn IMO.

Don't be afraid to look up lyrics and read along, it's actually how i learned to listen through the distortion to understand these types of vocals.
And as for how these sounds are made, you actually don't use your vocal cords at all, you disengage them and use various other parts of your throat to create the sound, kinda like when you burp, that's different tissues making the noise which is why it doesn't sound like your speaking voice

  • @thatguy_5240
    @thatguy_5240 Год назад

These vocals aren't made with the vocal chords, but with the false chords and other super-glottal tissue. If done properly, its not much more strenuous than just singing, and is incredibly safe with good technique. Will Ramos, the vocalist of this band, has several videos with vocal coaches going over how he does his screams.

  • @picklespenguin6256

By all means you kept it respectful while being honest. As an avid metal fan, I never expect anyone to listen to the extremes (like death core) and enjoy it. Even when I first got into listening to metal I didn’t enjoy the harsh vocals. They grew on me over a few years and now I’ve listened to it a bunch to where I do enjoy listening to it without knowing most of what is being said. It’s definitely a genre where I listen first, then read, then listen and read together. All in all, nice reaction. I can suggest a different band that is similar to Lorna Shore which is Shadow Of Intent. Their most recent album ‘Elegy’ is about the attocities of war and how people are manipulated by governments. It’s still not gonna be your cup of tea, but it’s a cool look at how even the heavier genres have meaningful content.

Love the reaction from a non deathcore fan, the screams and gutturals found in most music like this comes from their diaphragm. This method completely bypasses the stress to the vocal chords and the best part is it's a safer way to preserve their voice! It takes a tremendous amount of effort and practice to do this shit haha! The best way to approach this kind of music is to compare it to Horror Movies.
With horror movies, people come together to act/present a scary Visual experience for the audience: they want to stimulate the motion of fear for entertainment.
The same is with this kind of music; but the people instead come together to perform/present a scary Audible experience.
    It's essentially horror music.
    -
Rock music likes to evoke happiness or sadness; but these two things are rare in Metal music.
Metal music likes to focus on anger and fear; so the energy often feels violent or scary. ...or a bit of both. lol

When I hear harsh vocals like this, that I can't understand, I listen to the song as if it was in a foreign language. People dismiss this song simply because they can't understand the lyrics. To that I ask, would you dismiss a cool song in a different language, just because it's in a different language? Not being into a song because of the sound of the harsh vocals, or because of the instrumental chaos is a different story. It's kind of an acquired taste. Once you get past the initial shock, and after listening to this song multiple times, the flow of the instrumentation alone kind of makes you want to move, especially the chorus and guitar solo. Props to you for giving it a chance. There is a one take playthrough of Will Ramos, the vocalist, doing the song. It's pretty easy to find, and it's very impressive.

true deathcore at its peak. hail the kings. also if you watch will's one take vocal vidoes and then you can see him actually doing it. this is not edited whatsoever. its not death metal thats a misnomer.

Hell’s elevator music 🤘😂 This song is the first track on 3-song EP that’s essentially about death and rebirth. You should check out their newer Pain Remains trilogy (or at least part 1). Same style of music, but not quite as heavy as “To The Hellfire”. And while the vocals still sound mostly inhuman, the lyrics tell a pretty relatable story

The more you listen to heavy stuff, you actually end up making out most of the lyrics lol. It's like a second language. But I highly recommend having lyrics pulled up to the side and analyzing it. Definitely would give more insight and perspective. Music is subjective and I'd love to hear your opinion on lyrics as well!
The harsh vocals are actually a manipulation of the muscles and the way the sound flows out your trachea, it's not really your throat. Will Ramos, the lead vocalist in the band, did a bit with an opera singer to show how it works. Anyone can do it lol. See it as another form of art. Art is also subjective and perceived differently. Another way to emphasize emotion and story telling. I understand it's not everyone's cup of tea, sheesh even my mother thinks it's a headache of just noise lol. I think it's all good, let's not forget about the guitarists and drummer. It's hard word. Keep at it tho!

React to the "one take" version of the song, much more mellow as there are less theatrics but the harsh voice still comes through.

This is like a retelling of Dante's Inferno. Each part is supposed to be a descending layer of hell but in this case it is metaphorical. You should at also watch at least the first part of the Pain Remains trilogy. More dark tones, but not religious in any sense.

Brother, you MUST watch the vocalists live one take performance. It has converted hundreds of listeners who either dont like, or don't understand harsh vocals into genuine fans, and shows how much technique and talent what the vocalist is doing truly takes. Regardless of whether or not you like it.... The respect it commands is palpable. Please give it a watch. So very worth it. ❤

"Death Metal" is a pretty good guess, but it's called Blackened Deathcore, basically Death Metal meets Metalcore, with some Black Metal influences. nothing wrong with your honest reaction, i hate when Metal fans continue to throw people into the deeper side of Metal and expecting them to like it, so i hope you do more Metal in the future, but if you do, start with the classics like Black Sabbath, Metallica, Megadeth, Pantera, etc.

And im looking forward to more, and i would like to recommend "Pain remains trilogy" because its the closest you will probably get to hearing clean voice and vocals from the singer Will Ramos. Who, if you heard speak and not yell, might think is actually a chill dude lol. Ok im done fan boying now 😅 subbing either way 👍

This is definitely an interesting choice if you don't listen to Metal, you probably won't like it if you jump straight into one of the heaviest bands out there, if someone wants to give Metal a listen I'll usually try to find something soft like Metallica, Linkin Park or Avenged Sevenfold or a softer song from something heavier like Snuff from Slipknot, Kin by Whitechapel, etc.
Metal depending on the genre lyrics are pretty important so if you really like lyrics there's pretty amazing bands out there I'm sure you'd love even Lorna Shores other songs of the Pain Remains Trilogy of videos.
I will say it is entertaining to see someone who doesn't listen to Metal jump straight into this song, but yeah if you're interested in the genre other bands are a better introduction

You just gotta listen to more harsh vocals. Takes training the ear.
That being said, I have to look up lyrics to almost any song with vocals because it's hard to understand almost any vocalist for me. Clean or harsh. Has to do with cadence and syllable emphasis being very different to normal speech.

    • @Battletoads2
      @Battletoads2 Год назад

Try to think of Wills vocals as another instrument with 2 layers. Just the sound alone is used to deliver emotion and feeling like a normal instrument can. The lyrical layer isn't necessarily required but definitely adds context and further understanding of the song itself. If you already like or dislike the sound of the song, knowing the lyrics won't change that. Dont know if this helps at all 😅

I can definitely understand why you couldn't really appreciate this right off the bat but if you start off with some less hardcore stuff and work your way back out to this I really think that you'll truly appreciate it and by the way look up the lyrics are actually very well-written and deep it's not as bad as you might think it is it's really well-written. I appreciate your genuine reaction that would not just following the hype and being honest that's really cool

You have to check out the pain remains trilogy by Lorna shore, the videos all consecutively with the lyrics pulled up next to it, cause it proves everything about metal not being sentimental that people say completely wrong and brings everyone to instant tears lol. Even if it's not your cup of tea, it's definitely very easy to appreciate the work they put into it on between the music, the lyrics, the vocals, the story, the videos..... It's very well done and I recommend it highly

Linkin Park, every song is amazing but I'd recommend Lost In The Echo its more Rap heavy and the music video is amazing and emotional
Falling In Reverse- they have a Trilogy of songs that are very Rap heavy it starts with Losing My Mind then goes to Losing My Life, then lastly Drugs
Anyway if you do check either of them out I hope you enjoy it and can get some new music to listen to.
