Enjoyed the video!! Everyone loves those little motors. Those little motors run nice and are very reliable. The fishing stories that little motor could tell. Cheers
I just bought one of these today at a auction for $5.00. It needs a new head gasket and spark plugs but I feel pretty good about getting this little motor running very soon.
I just bought one off of my dad it has sat in are barn for over 7 years I pull it out and put some fresh gas and some sea foam and it started in a few pulls just today I fixed the coil on the bottom spark plug and it is running amazing
Boy o boy, is that a sweetie, don't ever let go of that gem. Might not get there quick but sure does plane your boat off nicely. I didn't see vibration, I did hear the starter pawls rattling a little. Keep that one!
Nice one! I have a similar motor with a folding leg available in my area, do you think it's worth getting? Once they're up and running do these old motors experience lots issues?
Hi Blue Lake Your motor sound like a watch(perfect) Is it an engine with little use or proper tuning or both? Buy an evinrude lightwin 1956 3018 3 hp on ebay I need your help! What is the correct mixture oil/gas 24:1 or 40: for this motors? Some oil you recommend? Spark plug proper for this motor? Thank you so much
I had a 1965 of this model and it used 50:1. I believe it was even printed on the decals on the motor cover. They look identical in the shape of the cowlings and such, but a little more white in the paint job.
I got a 1958 version of this motor from a friend. I'm the 2nd owner. When I tried to check the impeller I couldn't get it a part. Didn't want to force it. Any suggestions?
I have the exact same motor. I got it from my Grandfather after he passed away. I am trying to restore it and am in need of a new carb for it. can you point me in the right direction?
I bought a 1966 with a folding lower end. When I got it put new gear oil and replace the water pump even though it's still look good and replace spark plugs I did not do anything under the flywheel except check the point gap, it starts right up and idles beautifully but I feel I'm only getting like 5 mi an hour. That's the reason I asked what you were getting on yours. It runs awesome but I may have to put some new coils, points and condensers and see what he will do. It would have been nice if Evinrude would have added a neutral gear. Thank you for your video
Love it! The exact model I'm trying to find as thats the one my grandpa had for our little boat each summer in Maine as a youth. Video is 6yrs old so not sure if you still own but any interest in selling or tips where to find a clean one like this?
We are knocking down a house and usually i go through and look and see what was left over. And found one of these motors. Hell yeah i took it. Pulls nice but leaks gas from the petcock. Just got it last night. Hopefully its something stupid
Hi blue lake, I also have a 1955 3 HP Evinrude motor Model # 3014. When I got it the side covers were missing. I picked up a pair of used ones at a boat meet but the holes in the cover don't line up with the choke knob or the high and low speed needles. Would you be kind enough to remove one of your side covers and check the casting number on the inside of the cover? The covers I picked up have casting numbers 203197 on port side and 203198 on the starboard cover. Unfortunately, the part numbers in the parts manual are much different than the casting numbers on the cowlings. I think I have either the wrong covers or the wrong carburetor.
I love these old motors, I have a 1960 3hp

What ratio do you mix the gas/oil? Is it 50:1 ? Beautiful
No, 16:1 is what you need for motors of this era.

How fast would you think you were rolling with it?
How long was the boat you were using in this video?
It's a 14ft Smokercraft. Here's a link to the boat I have, ruclips.net/video/S89iZymrHYc/видео.html

What kind of MPH do you think you get out of it.
Very nice motor
Maybe 6-8 mph?

6-8 miles an hour is just a guess. I never used GPS on it, but it's probably closer to 6. 😊
