- I paid a pretty penny for this quirky gsm phone; well, expensive by old phone standards and by what I am used to paying, but I am glad I got this rare piece. Join me as I revisit this vintage phone.
Best phone ever!! one of the first MP3 phones . Remember I had like 8 songs I compressed in file size to fit on a 32MB memory card. I got 6 in storage, 4 of them work lol
Definitely one of my favourites as well. I really hope to get some of the successors: sl55, sl75, sl91.
I got one the day it came out!! I still got it in a drawer somewhere.
Nice to hear when people remember these gadgets fondly.
I'm glad to be the first to comment and not the last I hope 😀. It was my no.1 phone two decades ago and deserves every mention these days I think. Thanks for it (watched all and wasn't bored 🙃) PS. really nice condition piece!
I'm glad you enjoyed the clip, much obliged.
Even though my channel is small and lacking in meaning or substance, with the resources I have at my disposal at the moment, I can try to create some interest in these old phones. I have other ideas for adding some depth and analysis to the channel, but for now, running it a side project with no alocated budget, it is all I can do. So I guess what I'm trying to say is that every view is immensely appreciated. Cheers!
Interesting. I must put an ad out on my old SL45, with sync cradle and earphones.
It's in an almost pristine condition. Where do I do that to reach international buyers?
I don't really know how to trust a platform.
For me, it's ironic since usually scammers come from Eastern Europe, but I find it difficult to sell internationally from Romania, as I have some collectable items myself that I want to sell.
I don't know where you reside, but I can't really recommend any site.
God i loved this phone! I had the SL45i version. It was the most advanced when it came out. Mp3, memory card, dictaphone, voice/call record, Java.
It was very expensive. Almost 2 months of salary at that time
Yeah, I remember the times.
I am going to get my hands on an sl75 soon, but the video might not come out until next month.
Had it for 1 year back in 2001 or so. I think i still have the parts somewhere. Was great for mp3s and recording stuff. I still have recording of a forest bird song on my g drive 😁
I feel you, so right. I got mine a bit later on, in 2003 or so, and it was a battered example, but I managed to change the whole housing because it was cracked at the middle and didn't hold its battery.
Needless to say, it was a knock-off housing, so it didn't quite fit and created a whole slew of other problems. But I soldiered on with it, and over the course of a few years, I encountered about 3 or 4 other sl45s, even a minter.
Just brings back fond memories.
I need 2 new batteries for my SL45. I saw battery cell replacement but its too much work for me. Would buy though
Yeah, i feel exactly the same. Chinese cell I don't trust, but replacing the cells is too much work. Maybe when I will have time and space to expose the whole collection.
Hi
I just came across you (&subscribed) whilst googling for new battery for my otherwise perfect SL45. If I can't get one cheaply I might sell instead with box & all kit as new.
Few points of disagreement - I'd like to see a better built phone!
Also I have 2 M100's. In UK, Samsung claimed to be FIRST mp3 player, with 32 MB internal memory, but then Siemens trumped them with their 32 MB MM card. I never got round to trying a 64 card later. The market was developing so fast, & then you just HAD to have a 3G phone! I have a great collection including 4 x Sony/Eric 890i and hated the idea of selling ANY of them ! !
But I suppose I might if the prices are going up. Decent battery availability is always a problem and I'm not an experienced solderer.
Hello. It's very gracious of you, I appreciate your views and subscription.
As for the phone, I agree, and the video itself is not my best effort in terms of imagery. I plan to change my filming location, but I am currently renovating that place.
I also hope to feature some odd phones, but more expensive ones at that. My distant goal would be a Motorola Aura, or something in that class. My personal opinion is that Nokia 8800s are played out, so I don't think I will be touching on those any time soon.
At any rate, I feel I am doing this out of passion for gadgetry and as sort of a calling (I am a journalist by trade after all) and that my clips are improving slightly. I hope you stick with my latest ones, if nothing just to see the difference. I'm trying to keep modest, and I'm not patting myself on the back here 😀, it's just a passion project that I hope to take further. All the best to you.
This was my first mobile phone
Thanks for sharing, I was aiming for the memory lane. I have acquired an SL75 recently, but since I am busy with some other projects, it might take me a few more months to post it.
Does it have the free mp3 that comes with it? The one air.mp3?
Tough question to answer, battery is so fat gone I don't dare try to recharge it, serious risk of explosion, it swells tremendously when I try to turn the phone on.
I got one new when launched, was quite an expensive phone when new and in demand as it was the first phone with an inbuilt MP3 player.
Came with a dock which I think might have used a serial connection to connect to a PC, not USB.
Or you could use Infrared. Headphones from memory were quite good and I think came with a cord. You also got a CD of drivers and software which was like Nokia Suite so you could sync with Microsoft Outlook for example.
Yes, first gsm phone to come with expansion slot for card, the MMC (multimedia card). I still have it, as shown in the clip. Not the dock, charger, or headphones, though.
