Apparently the ride was more intense at that time compared to a few years later as it was a bit too intense for quite a few riders initially so they updated the simulator movement program a few years after it’s opening to make it more mild so guests were less likely to throw up on the ride! :)
this was truly the heyday of the original concept of epcot. they have strayed a bit from that now. it's a shame. i mean, where are old SNL cast members supposed to work?
