  • Do Rabbits Have to live Together? Can they live happily alone? Should they have a companion? In this Video I answer some of the common questions about this topic :)
    (I DO recommend getting a second rabbit IF you can! but if you can't then I don't think that should deterrer you from getting one.)

    I adopted two rabbits last year, the pet shop said that they couldn't be bought separately (We would have gotten them both anyway.) When we got home, and after a week they started really fighting to the point where one of them ripped the others ear... Obviously we separated them ASAP but... that was annoying.

    Thank you so much! I got my bunny Baby a friend, and was absolutely disappointed when I realized I couldn’t bond them. I can’t deal with the stress bonding, putting them in cages to make them bond with each other. I ended up giving back the other rabbit to her foster mom after a week. I felt like the biggest skid mark in the world. My bunny stopped binkying since the new rabbit came, and the other rabbit (who was the sweetest girl in the world) wasn’t having a good time either. I couldn’t have them enough attention separately, and it broke my heart to give her back. I still feel like I abused her, by making her go through one week of crap. I really appreciate that you not shaming people for not having pairs. You’re absolutely right, when you’re adopting from a rescue... maybe your rabbit is better having a friend. But when you give your heart and time to a bunny from a rescue, you’re still better than the rescue. As well, you’re opening up more spaces in the rescue for rabbits in need.

      Same here. I am planning on getting a bunny (one) and cuddle it and spoil it and treat it with all the love in the world.
      And whenever I talk about it, people keep telling me that it's sad and that I need to pick an old, sick rabbit from a shelter, instead of one that will last me a while, and that is healthy.
      I usually try and tell them; 'Listen, there are millions of bunnies in wirecages, for fur and meat. There are millions in homes where they are neglected or people throw them out of cars on the highway and hope they will survive in the wild.
      I am planning on getting one (whether rescue or not, I don't know yet, I don't care, it needs to be healthy and friendly) and that rabbit will have me and everyone around him, to love and care for him. His life will be something that other bunnies could only dream of, sadly. Stop suggesting I am doing something wrong.'

    Great video. I'm pretty much of the same opinion as you that if you have the means to, and you think your rabbit would do well for a companion then it's great to have two. But single rabbits can be perfectly happy, Bandit is an example of that for me. I think the issue is when people have single rabbits, but don't spend nearly enough time with them or give them enough toys to stimulate them. Very well put-forward video :)

    My bunny is a rescue, and he was bullied relentlessly by his brothers and still had scabs from scuffles when i took him home. I could possible pair him with a doe, but most does are sort of bossy and i think that would make him miserably anxious. He's very social and affectionate with me and my family. i'd only had a him a few weeks when he started giving me kisses and asking me to scratch his head. in the future i would like to have more rabbits, especially if my bunny seems to need it, but right now i'm pretty sure he's happier with people as companions.

    My bunny is adopted and we are her third owners 😭. The first owners gave her up because she wouldn't breed and the second owners tried to introduce her though she attacked the male bunny due to her previous experiences. Then she was in Foster care for seven months but the we got her and at first she lived outside but she got really stressed and we had to spend 200 pounds for the vets within the first week of having her so now she is an inside bunny and lives in my room but we are hoping to introduce her to our cat so she can go in all of our house( we will be very careful when introducing them). She is now a very happy bunny!

    Love you're videos! You're really helping me out!
    I'm actually going to get 2 baby bunnies (both are brothers that have been together since they were born and about 5 weeks+ old) from my uncle (he raises and sales meat rabbits, I picked them because I want to save them. I feel terrible about there siblings tho) next week (Friday/Saturday). I've owned 2 Guinea Pigs but they died last year a few months apart and I figured I was ready for new companions and my mom suggested Rabbits (because I was looking into getting a kitten or 2 but my little brothers allergic to cat hair but not Bunnies) so after awhile of thinking it over I started looking into Bunnies and decided "Why not? I've owned Guinea Pigs, Cats, and Dogs and my cousin owned 2 rabbits that I got to pet and watch (and enjoyed) when we went over to her fathers house so I'll give it a go" I've searched a bunch but didn't get much help from what I've found and I started searching here on RUclips and found you! 101Rabbits, and BunnyBudget also was a BIG help to me. I'm also using my C&C cage that my Guinea Pigs used until me and my mom (because my dad's lazy and won't :c) can build a Bunny condo I've been looking into so if anyone has some tips for taking care of Bunnies (mostly baby Bunnies since I'm getting 2 next Friday/Saturday) or maybe the best way to build a condo, let me know below please! Thanks!
    P.S. I might just make a video of them once I get them home! I already have names to! Ones a White with Black spots that I'll call Bugz (like bugs bunny just spelled with a z) and the other ones black that I'll call Friday (so when someone asks what his name is I can sing "It's Friday, Friday, Friday hey!") lol! I can't find the song that the lyrics came from but it's my fav to sing on Friday! ~♥ Pride

      This might be super late so sorry but I have school and work also. I have a single rabbit. It doesn't seem to phase her much. In the morning I let her run around and give her time outside of her cage and then when I get home from school before work I give her a little treat (a tiny piece of carrot or banana) and talk to her for a few minutes and then when I get home from work I let her run around until I go to bed. She really doesn't seem to mind it at all. She is a very independent bunny so she doesn't really like cuddles but she does like my company and I think I give her plenty of it

    my bunny was a single bun for 3 years (I adopted her when she was 2 yo). She was really intolerant with other female bunnies, and we finally decided to go and try to make her bonded in a place where they do speed-dating for bunnies. She rejected all 8 males of the place and FINALLY settled for the last of them, casually, for no reason. They are so cute together and they never fought. They do everything together. I was making sure to give her everything she needed before, but she looks so much more chill now. She still comes to see me and demands to be groomed, though. She's such a diva.

    My vet generally advises against getting an additional rabbit because of disease propagation, but says to keep new bunnies on a strict 30-day quarantine before introducing rabbits. Even if your rabbit isn't showing symptoms of any diseases they can easily pass along any of the common rabbit illnesses to other bunnies and vice versa, and a lot of bacterium like pasteurella are just present in the bodies of some animals anyway and can explode out of them if they get too stressed. Especially important if your bun came from a shelter and you don't know its medical history. Check with your vet!! And like StormyRabbits says it's on a case-by-case basis!

    • @Morseys
      @Morseys  8 лет назад +2

      That very unlikely to happen but still something to keep in mind (though it's even less common in say the US) +Bryn Kelley

    • @brynrose1
      @brynrose1 8 лет назад +1

      +StormyRabbits Not necessarily. My rabbit was rescued from a hoarding situation where most of the rabbits did not survive due to the number of pathogens being passed from animal to animal. She is now a carrier for those diseases. I live in Massachusetts. Pasteurella is present all over the world and most certainly in the US.

    Thank you! Your video was much more informative than most articles! I want to ask for an opinion. My rabbit is free roaming, and I am home most of the time. Apart from eating and sleeping he runs a bit in the evenings and does zoomies and binkies, but he doesn't play with his toys (wooden, natural materials, all shapes, and kinds), he only chews some paper bags and sits a lot near me doing nothing. Does he sound depressed? He is not scared of me and we have a good relationship, he allows me to pet him whenever I want. I am worried if I should get him a companion as he doesn't do much. I'd prefer to live just with him alone.

    My two rabbits are not fully bonded. They don't hate each other but they don't love each either. They attack each other less then they did when the first met each other, only some nips now, so, what should I do to finish the bonding process and make them completely bonded?

    My bunny's previous owner didn't spay her, and when I got her she was two years old, at this point her death rate for surgery is too high. I want to get another rabbit, but I'm pretty sure my current rabbit would be too aggressive towards the other rabbit. What can I do?

    I'm getting a rabbit next year (I can't this year because I'm living far away from home) and your videos have helped me a lot, thank you. I'm hoping to get a mini cashmere lop (well I don't particularly care I think I am looking to get one from a shelter) who I was thinking about calling Crybaby for a girl and Pooh for a boy.

    Nice video! My rabbit have always lived together, they can't live without each other! ( I don't mix genders because they are not spayed/neutered ) I prefer when I want two rabbit to live together, I will get them both as babies ( sibling or not ) I have never been through the bonding process! So that's an idea too if you are buying two new rabbit.... But btw I love your videos!

    I have one young rabbit that is currently inside but the cage is slightly on the small side so we are thinking of moving her into a large hutch outside. I don’t want her to be lonely but my mum says I can’t get another one. I live in a quiet village in England and there are not many predators.
    Also RUclips channels like Lennon the rabbit say that hutches are bad and you shouldn’t have them. Is that true?
    Do I keep her inside or move her outside?

      I have a play pen as cage(i can expend it when im not at home/asleep so he has more space) in my room where my rabbit lives in (he is litterbox trained). I prefer to have my rabbit in my space so we can see each other every day. if you live in the same space as your rabbit you will bond more. So that why I prefer to keep my rabbit inside.

    I have had 3 bunnies and they were all seperate bunnies.
    One day we all 'hid' in the kitchen and the bunny looked around, didn't see us anymore and audiably sighed of relief.
    They loved the rest and peaceful moments of sleep when we weren't home, they were costantly being talked to, picked up, stroked or fed.
    I honestly don't think they missed another bunny. They arent group-animals, they are herd-animals, they have their own crew.
    And we were the bunnies crew. He accepted that.

    Hi! So recently I've been wanting to get a rabbit. I had one in the past but since my sister wanted a dog, we sadly had to get rid of it. My parents agreed that when my hamsters die that we can get it. They also said I can get one hamster if I really wanted. I was super excited that I could get both, but I just remembered my other sister was promised a hamster. I feel extremely guilty that I wasn't thinking about anyone else when I agreed to get both. What should I do? Should I just let my sister get the hamster first or should I tell her to wait?

    My bunny likes being alone, she’s pretty calm and usually grazes in her hay and naps. When she hangs out with me she just hops by me or even lays by me. She doesn’t like other bunnies much because she’s really territorial. But she sure is cute.

    I agree bout what she said about some rabbits not wanting to be with another rabbit because my rabbit I got from a rescue but he was to young to be neutered yet. But when we got him neutered he still was aggressive towards other rabbits.

    Two years ago I bought 2 rabbits. They where sisters and loved each other unconditionally. Yesterday one died and I and Nala (the other bunny) where devastated. Nala is a very sociably bunny and loves other rabbits, I’ve already noticed she looked very lonely. I’m not sure what my parents will think but I’m not sure about her getting along with another rabbit but I’m just so lost and so sad I don’t know what to do. HELP!!!!

      Air Nike I would put your rabbit in a playpen inside if you want to let it out. Outside they could dig and run away or escape through somewhere else and to top it off it could be killed by a bird or some other animal so to be safe I'd just let it roam around a sectioned off area in your house and if you have dogs put them outside so that no accidents can happen🙂

    I think it's a human emotion that people put on animals that leads them to believe that pets should be bought in pairs. Not all animals are going to get along just like not all humans can get along. I have heard pet store employees telling people to get two hamsters, ferrets, cats, rabbits, rats and even bettas! I have seen rabbits fight pretty viciously, cats, rats, ferrets and hamsters as well, I had a friend whose hamsters killed each other, and said the guy at the store said it was best to buy them as a pair ... people just amaze me. I have one rabbit, he is alone (with the exception of myself) and is perfectly happy. All that BS about rabbits getting depressed and dying from loneliness is just pet store propaganda to make people spend more $$$

    • @lottiew3160
      @lottiew3160 6 лет назад +3

      To be fair, the animals you listed are all very different. Hamsters NEED to be alone, rats NEED to be social. I wish people would research pets before buying them 😭

    • @kpopgirl7987
      @kpopgirl7987 5 лет назад +1

      Ferrets should be in pairs (I had three and they got along. It’s in their nature to play fight but I haven’t seen them fight to kill each other.) , but it depends on their personality too.

    • @kpopgirl7987
      @kpopgirl7987 5 лет назад +1

      Stuart Cumings I had three ferrets and they all lived in a well spaced cage at night. Of course I got them out every day. It’s good to take them on walks and let them explore. They’re curious lil guys.

      I really hope you aren't serious...yes, hamsters must live alone and it's wrong to say they need to live together. But thats because they live alone in the wild, too. But other animals like rats and bunnies NEED a friend. They live in large groups in the wild, and need a friend. This video is also kind of misleading. It is animal cruelty to keep them alone, and in one country it's even illigal to keep them alone unless they really don't like others. Sure, not everyone likes everyone, but that means you need to bond them with many animals before finally saying that they really arent social. You can't just make that statement after trying once. Also, you really need to be careful when bonding, they will fight if it's done wrong. You also can't just put two bunnies together. They need to be similar in age so that one isn't too playful and one too chill. Besides that, I think it's ridiculous that you say it's just 'propaganda'. No its not!!!!! Just because you don't like the information, doesn't make it propaganda! Just like humans, many animals need at least a friend. Not all but many. Now you may say: well bunnies are the ones that don't. Nope. We know hamsters don't because they don't have them in the wild, but bunnies do.
