Interesting to hear you make a case for single rabbits. I agree with what you say. I think it's a shame that so many are still in shelters when they could have homes with people who might only be able to care for one. Where I'm from I'm always hearing the message that it's not ok to have one. I've got four though!
Very helpful! I was going to rush and get another bunny because I only got one a couple weeks ago but he is showing so many signs of happiness that I just don't want to complicate our relationship and routine quite yet
I should not have gotten a second rabbit. The first one was perfect and lovely. The second was a great rabbit also and they bonded very well together. I thought the first needed a friend, but didn't realize the way I wanted to care for these rabbits would overwhelm me with two. The first loved me and my boyfriend, the second love exploring and being around our old shihtzu. Either would've been great on their own in our house or together in someone else's house. I eventually had to give them up. If I ever get a rabbit again I'll stick with only one.
not many bunny people make the case for single rabbits and you make a good point about rabbits needing to be adopted and being happy if they get enough attention. ive been thinking about rabbit friend for my boy but its not in the cards right now due to living situation/finances.
i have a single bun! i’d love to get him a friend but it’s not very possible right now. there’s always someone at home to play with and spoil him so my worries are eased a litte! also interestingly, my country has some rabbit boarding places that will help bond your rabbits for you. of course, it’s always best to do it yourself so you can closely monitor and get to know your buns better!
Thank you SO MUCH for this video. I agree with literally every single thing you have said here. I always feel that saving one bun, is better than saving none, even if you can’t save two.

While we cannot put them together until Shen is neutered, they can interact between the barrier and race each other. >.> Xiao Wu even teases Shen. I really wish my local shelter would take yours and 101Rabbits advice. The rabbits at the local shelter are not kept well, thus why we brought Xiao Wu home.
I just adopt my second rabbit. Literally, two days ago. My first bunny was spayed. However, the second bunny was dumped by the previous owners (in a field - awful people), so he is not even vaccinated and needs to be neuter. This will be my first time bonding rabbits and honestly, I am little nervous. Hope for the best and they will both be happy together. At least I work from home and I can spent a lot of time with them.
@Nidhi Roy I can take care of only two bunnies at the moment but there is a chance to do that in the future with another one. I bonded the two that I currently have successfully and I am very happy. 🐰❤️🐰
I planned on getting a single baby rabbit for a year before I got him. I researched, researched, researched. He has plenty of stuffed bunny friends and loves my dog more than me. He is always around us. He comes and goes anywhere he pleases. I put so much time, money and energy into my little love bug I honestly believe he’s better off a single bunny. He will know no different. So he won’t be missing anything.
I have one bunny but i'm home most of the time so he's always spending time with me when he's not sleeping. I think he's happy because he flops and binkies around me and licks me all the time. Maybe one day i'll get a second one when i'm able to.
Thank you for this video! I live in Germany and have just one rabbit, it lives with me in my room. Rabbit community here is judging me for keeping a single rabbit and for keeping it inside. My rabbit shows all sings of a happy rabbit and I think rabbits don't belong outdoors. But just here in Germany almost everyone is keeping them outside. I'm not ready for new rabbit so I'm so happy to see it is okay to have just one. ❤️🐰
I also live in Germany. My German vet says it is Okay to have 1 rabbit if you give them a lot of attention. I found in Internet different opinions. Some says 1 rabbit is Okay. Some says you must keep at least 2 rabbits. I think it is important to look if the rabbit is happy or depressive. My vet always says: Better 1 free roam rabbit than 2 rabbits in 1 cage. I have 100% Homeoffice. My previous female rabbit lived 11,5 years. She was very territorial and jealous of me.
I got a bonded dad and daughter pair (neutered male and a fertile female). The boy is nearly 3 and the girl just turned 2. She began to have some issues with humping and spraying in the spring. The dad got really stressed about the new shift in power and hormones, so we had to separate them until she was spayed and healed. (He went through GI stasis, otherwise I wouldn't separate bonded buns but he was really not happy) We kept them close together and they could see and smell each other if they wanted. Few weeks after the spay we started bunny dates again. Only 2 days into the re-bonding process the girl escaped her enclosure one night to be with her dad. We still don't know how. We had raised the fence between them and we thought we had blocked all holes. And we slept in the same room and heard nothing. But there she was, with her dad again. Just washing his face and snuggling up together. Is this normal? She is very smart and sassy, and of course a phenomenal escape artist. He is the sweetest, most laid back bun ever but is this type of bonding normal? I was prepared for much more work with them but they genuinely seem to love each other straight away. Should I be worried this could take a bad turn again? They've been together for a few days now and they do everything together
Hey Amy!, I heard rabbits are territorial and can become quite upset if they smell another rabbit as you come home, do you find that that causes any issues with Teddy Bear and Ellusive?
I have three bunnies. Two are bonded but the third one is very aggressive.I did everything I could to make her comfortable at home, but she bites every single time we get close. Should I get her a new home?Who would take her?it’s dangerous
It's okay if you have to keep her separate. Sometimes you do everything you can and they don't get along. I'm sure you can give her lots of attention and make her a happy bunny!
Today my special needs bunny bonded with my cat. My cat is 6 years old and has always hated all animals. She would attack any living thing. She has been that way her whole life. But she started loving on my bunny and playing with her. I was amazed. I never thought she would tolerate any animal besides her, much less love one so much.
I have a rescue rabbit that I got from a family friend. He is around 7 years old and not neutered. I researched whether or not he was too old to get neutered to get him a companion. But a lot of people told me he’s too old to be neutered. He’s such a sweet bunny and I’d LOVE for him to have a friend. I just don’t want to do the wrong thing😬
I have a Lion head That was born in May. For the last 2 months he has had a minnirex female that he bonded with. She died this week. What should I expect as far as depression? I dont really want to get another.....
I wanted to get a bunny friend for my bun-boy. I adopted a girl, and unfortunately, we had to return her back to the shelter because the stress that was involved with the bonding sort of ignited my rabbits dire chronic kidney disease. One day he was fine (just stressed with the bonding process) and the next, he lost function of his legs and got super sickly. The new girl did not take this lightly and got kind of pushy with him. She did get a new home and we missed that little new girl, but if she didn't go back to the shelter when she did, she would have lost more out of it. I have had to put so much work on my resident bunny to keep his kidneys functioning and actually save his life (we almost lost him a couple of weeks after the initial problem). My bunny is now so much better and almost back to is normal behaviors, but there will forever now be work involved that getting another bunny will just not be an option. He needs syringe feeding to keep his weight up, IV fluid therapy twice a week, daily medications, and constant cleaning and care of his hindlegs and private area. I know he would love a friend if he wasn't in these conditions, but it's just something that won't be able to happen for now. I think when his time comes, I would only adopt bonded pairs.
If I get two 9 week old rabbits from two different litters, is that a problem? From research I’ve seen they do not have to be bonded if they are under 12 weeks. But I am not sure on this.
We kept our baby bunny in a hutch with a large rabbit run outside. On the advice of a shelter/farm/breeder where I went to look for another rabbit to keep her company, we ended up buying a guineapig as a companion for her. They lived together very happily for over 3 years, snuggling up to each other and generally fussing over each other. We often wondered if they actually knew they were different? Unfortunately this week Pippin our rabbit escaped our rabbit run (which had a network of wire tunnels around our reasonably big garden and which led to another pen at the other side of the garden). Anyway my son found piipin in the garden savaged and killed by some other animal. We are all heart broken (especially my daughter who used to spend much time with both). So we decided to get another rabbit to keep Ginger (the Guineapig company). I googled to see if it was ok to put a Buck in (as there was one available locally - pipping was a Doe), to my surprise I read a few posts stating that guineapigs and rabbits do not make good company? We are confused and desperate as my daughter really wants a rabbit to keep Ginger company. Please can you give us some solid advice as things don't make sense judging on how they seemed to love each others company?
I'm so sorry for your loss, it's always heartbreaking when something like this happens This is a topic that is a little controversial, and many people have strong opinions. I know it used to be commonplace to keep rabbits and guinea pigs together because spaying and neutering were not as safe as they are today. Keeping rabbits and guinea pigs gave them a chance for socialization without risk of multiplying, and they typically fight less with members of other species. The main concerns that people have now with keeping the two species together are that rabbits can potentially injure guinea pigs and some illnesses that rabbits get can pass to guinea pigs and cause a much more severe reaction. What I would do in this situation is keep the rabbit and guinea pig in separate enclosures, but still allow them to have a lot of playtime together. This is, of course, assuming that your new rabbit is well behaved and gentle around Ginger and both are healthy.
I had bonded my male neautered rabbit and unspayed young doe. Getting her spayed but vets wont do op till she is 6 months she 5 now. She has started humping non stop my male rabbit and pulling his hair. I take it she has reached sexual maturity and is trying to take over dominence. Now i have to split them up i think cause hes getting stressed. I made the mistake of bonding before neutering them both.
I personally never had a good experience bonding two rabbits unless they are babies😬...its A LOT of work and stress bonding any 2 pairs of rabbits as adults except few cases
Definitely definitely not true lmao. Its babies who will fight more. If fixed they should be okay especially if you go to a rescue and let them pick their friend
I have a question,,, my bunny is with me since he was old enough to leave the mother. I live in a student dorm room, so we are together all the time and he will command his cuddles when he want. I’m not planning on to get a other one, because he is the happiest spoiled bun I’ve ever met. Plus the reasons you already said. But if the time comes I’m going to get an other one, when life change or something. Then Only my question is, he haven’t seen or been with an other bunny since I have him, is he going to react nice when they try to bond my bunny? In the Netherlands is a place where you can bring your bun and get it back with a new partner. :)
It depends, sometimes rabbits that have been single for a long time are harder to bond with another rabbit, but it's definitely still possible. It really depends on the personalities of the two rabbits involved.
Most shelters here in the Netherlands have a speed dating option, but mostly that is to see if they are not immediately aggressive to each other. The rest of the bonding process is on you. A lot fewer shelters do the stayover bonding, but they are experienced people who know how to let rabbits bond. They have a neutral space for the bonding process and are used to rabbits that may have never been around other rabbits. I would say that if you don't have the neutral space or feel like you don't know enough about the bonding then I would say give the stayover a go. (I'm a bunny lover but not an expert so take my advice with a grain of salt)
😍😍Dear Bunny lady, as a relatively new bunny mum, I have watched many of your videos and enjoyed and learned alot from every one of them. Thank you. I have a request.....I recently adopted a little rescue bun as a companion for my lovely free roam rabbit. My rescue bun is an albino mini lop, as a result is partially deaf and his vision is affected by albinism. I would love it if you could present a video on helpful ways to communicate with visual and hearing impaired buns and the factors contributing to these impairments eg albinism and breed. Thanks very much 🤞👍
I found this video really hulpfull! I only have 1 because I am not allowed to have another one, also My bunny medical things that make binding not so great bc the stress is not good for the health.
I have a female Flemish giant (I think she's only 1/2 bc she isnt ginourmous like the ones in the videos), and it's hard to decide bc 1) I doubt we could easily find another Flemish giant and she could really hurt another rabbit bc of her size and we don't have space to have a whole nother cage , hers take up like 1/4 of our room already, but we don't have space for her to free roam a lot so it makes me sad bc I feel like she gets bored. She was at the store w another rabbit that looked just like her but I don't know if they would've fought either , and we still didn't have room for a second emergency cage just in case.
Is it okay to seperate a bonded pair of rabbits .? I got then two weeks ago and today is the first time I seen them fight, it was vicious! Thinking about returning one
That's totally okay, my sister had the same type of set up for her rabbits. It's a great options for rabbits who can't be trusted together full-time, but still enjoy being together.
@@TheBunnyLady thank you thank you thank you. I wish they had bunny therapy so they can get along j love them so much but they just can’t be trusted alone
My bunny loves sitting in my lap and cuddling. ^^ But they're sort of like cats in the sense that it needs to be on their terms, and some don't like being pet much at all. Depends on their personality
I have male netherland dwarf. Almost 1 year old. Can I adopt 1 male holland lop around 2-3 months old? I work from 10am - 7pm everyday and leave my netherland dwarf alone in my studio room.
Have you seen any changes in Ellie’s behavior since you got a second bunny? I only have one bunny right now. He is super sweet and cuddly and happy ofc around me. Don’t know if I should get a friend for him or not cuz he is super jumpy and easily scared around everyone else. Even weird smells scares him sometimes.
There hasn't been much change in her personality, she still loves to hang out with me a lot. And it's okay if you're not ready to get a second rabbit. As long as you give your single rabbit a lot of love and attention, he'll still be a happy bunny
ms b0ss Hop already has a sister, last time Hop had another bun to worry about, we got kicked out of the house but thank you, maybe Hop can adopt the IKEA boy. He's squeaky.
Hello Amy! I wanted to ask your opinion on having other pets in the house, for me I have four dogs that are very little shih ztus and I will keep the bunny separated from them and they will be separated by my bun staying in my room and the pups will be around the house but they just bark sometimes and I get nervous! But they are very quiet most of the time! Thanks!
well im not amy but you can see how your rabbit reacts when they bark and react accordingly. if you don't have a hidey house you should get one so if hey ever feel scared they can feel safe in there. other than that, as long as there separated and your dogs don't bark all day the bunny should be fine. if anything it'll be good for them to get used to noise.
heeeey sweety i'm from syria and i love you so much plz answer me..my little white bunny it's less than 2 months and it's eating and moving very will but today i noticed that it's tail started to be a colour of gray..is that any problem??
@@TheBunnyLady thank you so much for reply i had snowie he has 3 monthes and half and for many seraches i didn't know wich bread he is and every time is see Ellie i just see my baby in her as he growing up and now i know wich breed he is thank you alot
Do you have a video discussing how to have rabbits (particularly, free-roaming rabbits) when you have other pets like big dogs? I have 1.5 y.o. puppy who seems a bit TOO interested in my bunnies so I don't let them out as much as I used to. They're seniors and choose not to come out as much anymore, but I do want to know more about how to keep them (and future bunnies) safe when I will have bigger predator pets in the house. Thank you for your videos!
Rabbits and dogs together can be tough. This is something that generally depends on the personality of the animals, so it's good that you're being careful about this. My advice would be to either give your rabbits a room where the dog isn't allowed, or to fence off parts of the home to separate the rabbit territory from the dog territory. Then you can give them supervised and controlled playdates to see if they can ever be compatible enough to live together.

I was wondering if it was possible to buy already bonded rabbits?
But my bunnies are bounded but can’t live in the same cage. They are in separate cages but they still clean each other.
Hi I know that it’s a bit late because this video is 3 months old, but if I got 2 rabbits does that mean neither will really bond with me?
Im new to owning a pet, and I think rabbits are the cutest! But I heard they aren't for snuggling, is that true? 😔
Rabbits typically don't like to be picked up, but many will love if you pet them while they're still on the ground.
My bunny loves sitting in my lap and cuddling. ^^ But they're sort of like cats in the sense that it needs to be on their terms, and some don't like being pet much at all. Depends on their personality
That "Teddybear" rabbit looks like a small tiger.
I would like to get 2 rabbits. Is it possible to adopt two at a shelder that are already bonded? I would like two when I first adopt.
Definitely, I’ve seen shelter/adoption websites listing pairs of bonded rabbits for adoption together
I have male netherland dwarf. Almost 1 year old.
Can I adopt 1 male holland lop around 2-3 months old?
I work from 10am - 7pm everyday and leave my netherland dwarf alone in my studio room.
Yeah, go for it! You'll want to wait to bond them until after the new rabbit has been neutered
@@TheBunnyLady Thank you so much Amy 🙏🏻
I just got a friend for my bunny daisy! His name is Mr Sniffles! And he is a Holland lop mini Rex mix bunny!
Thank for this info
Am going to buy rabbits but i was confused to buy 1 or 2

Plz a Heart
I actually have two....is that good or bad?
Two is good!
@@TheBunnyLady good. You made me think two wasn't good
I have 4 , but still they live happily since they were together after born
Have you seen any changes in Ellie’s behavior since you got a second bunny? I only have one bunny right now. He is super sweet and cuddly and happy ofc around me. Don’t know if I should get a friend for him or not cuz he is super jumpy and easily scared around everyone else. Even weird smells scares him sometimes.
There hasn't been much change in her personality, she still loves to hang out with me a lot. And it's okay if you're not ready to get a second rabbit. As long as you give your single rabbit a lot of love and attention, he'll still be a happy bunny

Hop already has a sister, last time Hop had another bun to worry about, we got kicked out of the house
but thank you, maybe Hop can adopt the IKEA boy.
When my dog barks out the window my 6 month old baby bunny comes over to see what’s going on...lol

Hi i have a question my rabbit is eating his pellets and greens but not so much hai what should i do ?????🐇
I meant hay 😂
try feeding less pellets, if your bunny has too many they wont eat hay. and make sure the hay is good quality fresh and green.
@@bellathefrog2265 ok 👍

How i and care my rabbit i am from Pakistan
@@TheBunnyLady Thank you for your advice!
Is Ellie a newzealand white ?
I believe she is a Florida White
My rabbit are sick there is came some sticki wite thing is nose
I didn't understand you, if they look sick you need to take them to the vet as fast as possible.
