Heck YES!!! Plant nerds unite. I’m older, and I’ve been into plants since the 90’s. It was WILD watching the plant spike. And I had a blast with everyone else chasing some IT plants. The whole hobby has come so far. The weed industry has contributed too. We’ve got amazing options for lights, feeding, soil, poles, and knowledge! Now I’m honing my collection to what I love most. Upgrading to high variegation plants where I had struggling or low variegation intro plants. Giving away any that don’t bring me joy. And focusing on care this year. 💚💚💚💚
My local plant shop is selling pink princess philodendrons in 6 inch pots for $20 and they had more than I could count! It just reminded me that patience pays off. 😊
I’m glad I became more interested after the pandemic because there is so much knowledge online. I feel like it helped me avoid plants that wouldn’t bring me joy or pair with my plant care style.
Great video. I think many more people are into plants now, and some of them started during the plantdemic. I have been collecting plants since the late eighties and I got an apartment of my own. Plants were big in the seventies and my parents had them. It's a wonderful hobby to have for a lifetime, there's always something new on the scene to collect.
I’ve got to disagree a little bit. As a lifelong plant lover and collector, Ive really enjoyed the explosion in popularity. I’ve been collecting plants for decades now and there have never been so many rare plants available. I remember trying to find an albo monstera decades ago after reading about one in an old plant encyclopedia and I couldn’t find one. It wasn’t about cost, they simply were not available. At all. There was no market so no one was selling them. Maybe if you lived in the tropics, near a specific Florida nursery or traveled to rare plant conferences, you could find these plants, but not me up here in Michigan. Back in the day there weren’t these amazing anthuriums and aroids available. Let alone, anthurium hybrids. Or variegated anything. Glad prices are coming down but equally glad the hype expanded availability.
Here, on the cold mountains of Utah, I am glad to see that your opinion is close to mine. I have many rare plants in my collection. I had been waiting 20-25 years for some of them to find them available.
I have always loved plants and also took care of the garden in my family home. But I moved out, got a job, a lot of things happened in my life and I kind of forgot about plants. So I'm really grateful for the plant craze, because I rediscovered my love for plants. This time I'll stay for sure and as I'm now looking for a house, I also keep looking for big windows, a lot of light, so I can finally grow really big plants which I sadly cannot in my apartment
I have loved plants since I was kid when my mom would take me outside and teach me how to make some of the most beautiful flower beds I’ve ever seen to this day! She started teaching me when I was like 9 or 10 and literally taught me so much! But that was outdoor plants. She had a few pothos growing up but when I comes to truly growing and collecting indoor plants, I have honestly taught myself over the years through reading, watching countless videos and of course trial and error! 😂 But for me, that’s part of the fun and what keeps me coming back for more! It’s the challenge of “okay, I’ve learned how to make this one happy, now what I can grow?!?” I love every single part of growing plants indoors and out! My mom always “you definitely got your green thumb from your grandmother” she was a member of the garden club in Arlington Tx for as long as I can remember and is where my love for this “hobby” comes from without a doubt! Another great video! I could listen to you talk about plants all day! 😊
I’m so glad I’ve been patient…I JUST scored a philo strawberry shake for wayyy south of $50! Now the monstera Burke Marx flame is testing that patience lol
I actually got into houseplants over the pandemic (not neccessarily because of the pandemic. I'd already been consuming plant content and similar content for years by that point) towards the end when everything peaked, and it was really difficult to get into the hobby because of how expensive everything was (and still kinda is) at the time. So like, still being in the hobby, and having suddenly having everything drop in price (pretty quickly, from my experience in other stuff) is kind've a dream come true. I can collect houseplants to my hearts content and no one, not even my bank, can stop me.
I had to take a break from plants over the last few years because of how crazy the hype got, I just couldn't deal with it anymore. I just moved into a new place with insanely good lighting for indoor plants, and I'm so excited to see the prices going down! Things are way more accessible now, so happy to be jumping back into it. Really glad I found your channel too!
i got into plants while i was in college during the pandemic - living at my parents house and on a college student budget. i didn’t have the space or money for rare plants then even tho i loved learning about them and seeing all the varieties. now that im a bit older and decorating my new home with my soon to be husband, its so fun that we can buy some of these plants now that they’re not wildly expensive and we have some extra income. he’s even saying “we should get a plant to put in this spot and that spot” - my little plant nerd heart feels so full :)
Prices are definitely going down here in Indonesia, except for exotic anthurium hybrids and variegated ones. They seems to keep their price stable. Its more on the supply and demand actually.
I’ve loved plants for as long as I can remember. I never got into some of the more “uncommon” plants I E things you don’t find at your normal home depot or Lowe’s until this year. I’ve done outdoor plants a lot however. I’m really enjoying being back in the houseplant hobby and not having to worry about external conditions causing plant issues.
i didnt discover you until recently but i started working at a flower shop and i started to be in love with plants. that was over 6 years ago. ive became so obsessed and my house is filled with all sorts of plants. im starting to get into more complicated ones now. and its funny to hear your story about how people where just flipping plants but i sse soooo much beauty in plants its insane. i get memorized by them, i was thinking about learning tissue culture becuz ive always wanted to love science but my school did not give us the opportunity to do so. ive always wanted to create art with plants and show the true beauty they can be

Thank you for your honest opinion. Here is what I found about shopping on ETSY. It does not matter, where the shop is "located" on the listing, and what kind of shipping they promise. Just put a note "Please mark my box LIVE PLANT". You will be surprised, about 50% of your orders will be cancelled in 24 hours. Because what they paid to create this "shop" and it's "reputation" is more important to them than any order.
I just recently got into house plants. I honestly couldn't believe some of the plants I got used to be extremely pricey 😮. I started because I really like the look of the plants in my house and caring for them.
Those $20 thais were at a grocery store near me 😭😭😭 that damned Reddit thread got almost 10k upvotes. I was like nahhhhh not even gonna try because they will be plentiful soon I think!
I also wanted to say that you have great videos. Not a lot of plant you tubers post videos like yours and most of them focus on showing off their plants, which is not a bad thing and I do enjoy watching those types of videos I find these types of videos better
As a gen z plant parent, same. Though, I think we're still in the beginning of gen z getting into it, especially considering that we're all still focused on houseplants, and there still aren't many of us that are into gardening all that much. I feel like that'll probably be the next craze- Y'know, considering the 15 minute city political pushm and the want for environmental and all that. I think naturising cities and gardens will be a rather massive motivation behind that. That's if we ever actually see any changes in that department, though.
I got into plants last year I didn’t even know there was a big boom till now. I saw a random queen anthurium in my RUclips shorts and thought: huh, that looks interesting. I think I could do that.
Your monsters obliqua video was the first or at least among the first videos I watched on your channel. I recently saw a baby monstera obliqua on sale for 20€. Nuff said.
The price drop of the Obliqua was really crazy, I remember when they were high triple digits, and not even 2 years later I got a node for free for buying another 20€-ish plant
I've been into plants for a couple decades but it was never something I went online for before the pandemic. It certainly opened a new world for me. Don't get me wrong, I bought PLENTY but I couldn't fathom some of the prices people were willing to pay for tiny little cuttings, let alone an entire plant. Then, of course, the folks who used their collection (volume of plants, 'rarity', if a plant wasn't TC, or who they purchased the plant from) as a way to feel superior to others. In any case, I'm so pleased that prices are coming down so I can comfortably purchase the plants I've been wanting for a while like M. 'burle marx flame' and caramel marble
Great video, thanks for sharing. This is an excellent news that some of the favourite plants have gone down the price . I still love the pink princess philo . Thanks for sharing and happy growing 😊
Already gen Z (26) and we are collecting but parents aren't collecting (from parents I know) it seems to be a big split between people who own pets and have plants though
So yea, I bought the pink princess during the surge and regret it, partially. I've chopped the heck out of it and have beautiful variegation, but small plants. Not a great philodendron overall, but my cuttings from the original are so much better than the ones on the market now selling for a fraction of the cost back in 2020 (most are labeled 'Pink Princess" but should be labeled 'Reverted Pink Princess').
Ok I actually love this reframe 🥳 I *wasn’t late* to the plant party- I just had the very fortunate luck of discovering my green thumb once the price bubble burst 😂 wild to think I could’ve spent 2-3 times more on my current collection had I come in sooner 🤯

Also, the last few years I've noticed there are less and less ceramic pots that don't have the bottom saucers attached anymore......very frustrating and just don't like it.

The botanical species have become reasonably priced as well. Most philodendron have reached normal prices, the only one that is still quite expensive is P. spritus-sancti.
I can’t help but to think that the Philodendron Pink Princess was “The learning lesson Plant” for a large majority of the plant community when it came to the Plantdemic! The rush to propagate, the #1 most pushed to tissue culture at the time, the #1 MUST HAVE on everyone’s wishlists, and the quickest to fall price wise on the market during the time! Not to mention once we all got it and forked over money we definitely didn’t have to get it…..it ended up having LOTS of problems more so than other Philos I feel like! Notorious for the glass slipper stuck leaf issues and chopped down to terrible genetics for variegation if you weren’t one of the first to grab them at the very beginning! I still have mine but it was the BIGGEST Lesson for me for the entire situation and I honestly haven’t threw out that much cash for a plant since! I love it but could totally like without it forsure!!! Kids are expensive 😂 And plants are easier to manage. Now that I’ve maxed out on space available for plants, and I typically have what I need on hand, I barely spend anything on plants anymore. It’s nice to have the money aspect of it no longer a stressful part of the equation.
I have both and to me there is no comparison. Hands down children win every time. Now that I'm almost 68, I do have more houseplants to care for and do enjoy my new hobby :))
I don’t want to yuck anyone’s yums, but I still have trouble understanding why certain plants are so sought after. Caramel marbles and orange princesses seem to be in vogue and are a little ugly to my eye. Same with variegated Billie. I love normal Billie, but the variegated one looks diseased and pockmarked, not variegated in a pretty way. To each their own!
I do prefer plants how they appear in the wild as well. I also grow cactus and succulents and you'd get a massive specimen for the prices that a small of the boutique plants are sold for.

I've bought several super rare Anthurium hybrids for many being less than 80$! It's been amazing!

I found a scindapsis exotica, not super rare BUT in a rural area: for $8 and a night queen epiphylum for $12, gloriosum $8, agalanema camo $16

I have both and to me there is no comparison. Hands down children win every time. Now that I'm almost 68, I do have more houseplants to care for and do enjoy my new hobby :))
Lmao actual caramel marbles
I’m patiently waiting on a delta force
I don’t want to yuck anyone’s yums, but I still have trouble understanding why certain plants are so sought after. Caramel marbles and orange princesses seem to be in vogue and are a little ugly to my eye. Same with variegated Billie. I love normal Billie, but the variegated one looks diseased and pockmarked, not variegated in a pretty way. To each their own!
I do prefer plants how they appear in the wild as well. I also grow cactus and succulents and you'd get a massive specimen for the prices that a small of the boutique plants are sold for.
