I'm sitting here just wondering...why the heck hasn't anyone invited you to be on What We Do In The Shadows yet?!! You're one of the most famous vampires I know!!
Personally, I'm waiting for him to be in either a proper news bulletin or a comedy skit made to look like one. Just think: you're watching the news, and Voltaire's sitting next to Alan Moore. For Alan Moore, they do the old joke under his name: "Writer/Wizard/Mall Santa/Rasputin impersonator." Then we see Voltaire, and not to be outdone, it's: "Writer/Singer/Trip Advisor/Interior Designer/Vampire." (Maybe add in "Gothic Martha Stewart," but that's a little on the nose, and inaccurate.) And then for the punchline, a third person, with just one thing to their name. "Politician," "Scripture enthusiast," "Llama herder," depends what you're going for, really.
As someone who used to be active in the Harajuku community, I can think of a variety of reasons why they wouldn’t want photos/filming in their store: 1. People kept taking photos and not buying anything. 2. If something is of their own design, they don’t want people taking photos, copying, then selling a cheaper version undercutting then. 3. To respect the employees’ privacy of their photos get taken without their consent. There’s a chance they had a culmination of all these things experiences so they just put a hard “no photo” rule.
EEYY That tarot reader is a friend of mine, Fantasma Witch and she does online readings too! also next time you're in town, there's a new taxidermy/oddities shop on that street that opened a few weeks ago called Vulture Culture Oddities!
The fact that Halloween Town disallows photography and videography, in addition to your nonplussed description of the contents therein indicate a lacklustre collection.
Mystic Museum looked awesome!! Thanks for sharing all these chilling locations! I’ve been off RUclips for a bit, having a blast binging and catching up on your videos!
Surprised you didn't mention Blast From The Past Comics. They are across from The Mystic Museum and also have Horror collectables and 80s/90s comics and toys for sale. They're a great spot for horror Neca figures if that's your thing. There is also the wide array of vintage shops along Magnolia such as Playhouse Vintage that has vintage era outfits that'll make you feel like you're a patron of the Haunted Mansion. Additionally, most stores also have their own store cats such as Tiger Lily at Playhouse who is a absolute sweetheart.
Hey Voltaire, if you ever get to stop by SoCal again for Halloween, definitely check out Meridian in South Pasadena. The original Michael Myers house is there and for Halloween, the street near it goes all out with Michael Myers and Halloween. Sugarmynt gallery also often has horror galleries literally sharing a fence with the Myers house.
OK, so hear me out. It appears that Cracker Barrel may have some high-quality Halloween items in store right now. 1) I would love to hear your review of the goods 2) I can tell you it’s pretty entertaining walking into a Cracker Barrel looking fabulous 🦇
Why there is a lot of horror and sci-fi shops in Burbank is because many people in the movie business own those shops! I'm in the movie business I make practical effects for movies and halloweentown is owned buy a good friend of mine who was in the business of creature effects! It doesn't do that anymore that much because he went to business for himself was halloweentown! You used to be able to take pictures in the store a few years ago but it got out of hand because people came in there just to take pictures and be looky loos! So that's why he doesn't allow pictures anymore I've got some but I'm a good friend of his so I have perks perks lol
Was just there and was bummed the 80s shop was closed for filming. Really want to see it. I think Halloween Town is missing the opportunity for advertising the store. It’s so cool and weird they don’t let you film. But to each their own. Thanks for the video.
I found this channel last year and the intros animation, music, and the name felt very familiar to me like from a game I played in high school called Adventure Quest World. And Voltaire’s of dressing and hair was also familiar🤔. I recently revisited this game out of nostalgia and sure enough their he was!! And I was like “OH this was him all along!!😲” When I was younger I had no idea he was a real person!! Anyways it was a nice full circle moment and seriously enjoy this channel. Hope it never ends and congratulation on your Home Decor Line! Ooh it be cool if some of your home decor pieces made it virtually to AQW for fun as a grab/drop in the next event you narrate/host! 💕💕
My home town. You covered ALL of my favorite places. And thanks for the Cabin Fever note. I was the makeup supervisor on that film. Didn't even realize Camp Horror had a scene. Will have to get back there to see it.
I wish there were such places where I live. Watching these is like eating the best food… but only with your eyes 😢😆 thank you for making these, they are my favorite! 😊
I always visit the Mystic Museum and Memento Mori LA because of you! 😁👍 Riverside had a macabre shop but it went under in 2020. Wish it was still around.
Oh wow the immersive experiences especially The Lost Toys 😮Yesssss❤❤Creepy crawlers omg and my pet monster!! Ooh thanks for sharing, these locations are fantastic!!
Omggg this was full of dad jokes lol. I love your content! It is always a pleasure to sit back and watch a fellow goth show us all the horrors and oddities out there.
Yessss!!! I’m so happy you finally made it out here! I’ve lived in California my whole life and I still couldn’t tell you why Burbank has embraced year-round Halloween spooks, but hey I’m not complaining😅
Yes! Oh, I buy halloween stuff for my home ANYWAY. Not just for halloween. I've got to go return some video tapes. It's classic. The scariest non scary sentence. I used to love the Zipperhead in Philadelphia for my best decor/accessories! Some delightful places to shop there! Should have visited when I lived in Cali!
SOOOO happy to see you back to your spooky home-making self. I love seeing all the places. Can't wait to see you in St. Augustine in September 2023!!!!
Thank you for showcasing all of the stores & the bakery. I haven't been to California yet but I will be sure to put them on my list when I go in the future. I like how the collaboration of stores are so specific to one theme 💀
I absolutely LOVE going to Magnolia and seeing how many goths just frequent everywhere. Mystic Museum, Halloween Town.....plus the AMC theater is like 5 minutes away so you can enjoy a movie too! I definitely want to check out Dark Delicacies. A horror bookstore???? You sold me on the books.
Thank you for covering these macabre merchants! I really want to get over to the West Coast one day and I think I know whats going on my to-visit list!
Thank you for highlighting one of my favorite hidden gems of Los Angeles! I always send visitors to that area of Burbank. Love it! Also very close to Universal Studios Hollywood so for spooky kids who travel here for Horror Nights, the spooky district of Burbank is a must stop.
a really bad marketing move by the business that disallowed you to video; they missed a great advertising opportunity. I know these shops are small, but if they could do mail order, that could sell to those of us who will more than likely never get to Burbank or California. thanks, Aurelio; love and respect to you and the missus
Also HalloweenTown used to let you take photos. I have a bunch from pre-pandemic. I think something must have happened or they got tired of Instagramers not buying anything. It's a pretty standard Halloween shop, just open year round.
@@juliescott4473 The reason some retail stores don't allow photos is that resellers will post items for sale on Ebay or Amazon or Etsy and use photos they took in a store and pretend it's THEIR STORE to make themselves seem more legitimate. I can't say if that's why Halloween Town doesn't allow photos, but I know it's true of a witchcraft store near me. Another reason I've discovered in my travels is that some stores, artist or makers are concerned that factories in China (and elsewhere, but mostly China) will scour the internet for manufacturing ideas, copy things they see in the store (via photos people post online) and manufacture those same items in lower quality for a fraction of the cost. I've actually had that happen to me, believe it or not! Though, I personally feel that letting the world see what you make is preferable. But that's just my opinion.
I live fairly close to that part of Burbank, and yeah, I don't understand either why Halloweentown doesn't allow photos. The high-end room in the back that you mentioned does have actual art -- drawings, prints, paintings -- and I suppose that the artists might object to those being photographed? But being so close to the studios and in Southern California, you'd think Halloweentown would appreciate the networking and publicity aspect of people taking and sharing photos.
That was a cool video. I know Burbank. My dad used to live by Burbank Studios. in North Hollywood. My uncle Noel Marshall was the executive producer of movie. The Exorcist and made the most dangerous movie too. Roar. My cousins live down there. Subbed! your a fun character😂
Oh my gosh just up the street in North Hollywood from these shops, there’s a horror themed coffee shop too !! And their prices are nowhere as expensive as Starbucks. I def recommend visiting it next time !!!
I've been to Halloween Town there once looking for some of Unkle Pigors Toxictoons masks but they had already sold out, wish I had known about all the other places you mentioned then we probably would have hung out around there longer and had way more fun.
I wish we had places like this here. My local Halloween shop is seasonal. By doing that for Halloween Town it’s a disservice that u can’t film and take pictures. How do they promote? Its their loss. So cool to hit these shops. Hope u brought your merch to get them in there if that interests you. I missed these videos!
Thank you introducing these spooky shops/experiences. As an Angeleno, I had no idea that there were more shops in Burbank now. I remember your last visit, and I was planning to visit during Halloween season. Unfortunately for me, I was under medical treatment during Oct and couldn't enjoy all the spooky fun. This year will be different, I'll be ready for all the Halloween events.
Oh, wow, my significant other (in RI) is obsessed with "beautiful, downtown Burbank" because of Laugh-In reruns, & wants to go there next time he visits here (CA). I've worried about it, because he was so let down when we visited the La Brea tar pits. Now I can take him there without fear of disappointment!
I'm sitting here just wondering...why the heck hasn't anyone invited you to be on What We Do In The Shadows yet?!! You're one of the most famous vampires I know!!

I love this idea and now I'm sitting here wondering what needs to happen to make this a thing.

Good to have Gothic Homemaking back! The Goth Dad puns were totally on point! 😂
As a resident of California I am happy to know that these places exist so I can finally enbrace my inner goth
I'm an OC Native. I used to haunt these places a few years ago. If ya get the chance I highly recommend the visits.

Theres a Halloween and goth store around St. Marks I know cause I saw it when going to a party a couple of weeks ago around the St. Marks hotel :D
It’s called Halloween Adventure on 104 4th Ave & 808 Broadway New York NY.
