I did this and it worked brilliant! Also if anyone is feeding goldfish, I recommend 2/3 fish , 1/3 veggies for young fish and half and half or the opposite for older fish.
So true Angelo, there are so many ways to put this style of food together. I don't think I do it the same way twice. Loved seeing your new son in last weeks video.
@@FishmanEricRussell Certainly my pleasure, and thanks. I used to make my own food years ago but have been out of the hobby now for more than ten years. Excited to start up again.
Great video Eric. I’m home today due to excessive wind so it’s a boat cleaning and fish room day. I’ve been wanting to make a batch of food like that and was thinking of adding what’s left in the freeze dried brine shrimp bag as well as the almost powered remains in the spirulina bag
Hey Jim. You know it's not a day off if your just going to work on other things. lol. You can put pretty much anything you want in this style of fish food and it's definitely a great way to get rid of left over bits of fish food.
I've made food like this before, but without the water or gelatin - but I guess this way you keep more of the nutrients by not throwing the water away? Will have to give it a try - thanks!
Your right the main reason to keep the liquid is to retain as much nutrient as possible especially the colors. Thanks so much for coming by and taking the time to comment.
This is pretty awesome man. I was wondering how difficult it would be to make my own gel food. Thanks for sharing and as always do what you do if it works for you.
Fishman haha thanks! Ive just been in the process of setting up different tanks and been dealing with that drama! Which i guess could make good videos but it hasnt been priority, i will start again though because its a bunch of fun and now i have new critters to film :)
Thanks Diva. I try not to use any food that is more than one year old once it's been frozen. Even at the year mark it still seems to get the same response from the fish and looks no different than when I first made it. Just make sure it is sealed tight so you don't get freezer burn.
okay. New comment. I just get a 36 bow front acrylic and I have minor scratches because I'm an idiot and did it while I was cleaning the sand out of the tank. It is really minor swirls but just enough to set off my OCD. Is there a way to clear it up without going though the using sanders and such? Thanks!
Hey Diva if they are minor all you will need to do is use the two polishing compounds from ruclips.net/video/2UyUP4c3Txo/видео.html and it will clean that up nicely
Unfortunately I have not done any side by side experiments about it's effects. I simply feed it to everybody. If I get enough spare tanks that would be a good experiment. Thanks for coming by
Well done!!!! 10 times the Repashy for a fraction of the price. I've done this a few times before I'll be honest I'm too lazy. LOL Did you find the clear gelatin to be a bit expensive?
The gelatin is very cheap. I find the most expensive part in making this kind of food are the meats. Even that isn't so bad I used two sole fillets and the bag had a dozen for $10. I hear you on the lazy part. Always great seeing you
@@FishmanEricRussell Agar agar is also good because it has high nutrition and works similarly to gelatin. Also try adding garlic (after cooking, the thing in the garlic the fish like gets destroyed when cooked). I would say a half a clove? Amazing vid! I have plenty of dried insects for my turtles so I will probably try using those.
add spirulina if you dont add meat because they need protein, dried bugs work (and bugs aren't concious if you are worried about animals). Peas work for protein a bit, obvs beans and chickpeas, and if you don't want gelatin i would say use agar agar. I haven't done it yet but this is what I have figured out from researching.
I used to make food like this years ago with whole shrimp, peas , and spirulina. My cichlids grew like crazy and had amazing color!
I did this and it worked brilliant! Also if anyone is feeding goldfish, I recommend 2/3 fish , 1/3 veggies for young fish and half and half or the opposite for older fish.

Love the way you take care of the fish my friend you have a great weekend.
Awesome Eric I make my own as well. I feed it every few days.its Similar to what you have. I add spirulina and garlic.theres so many recipes lol

Excessive wind?
MELODY MUNRO yep. Blowing hard out of the Southwest. Back out tomorrow
This is awesome! My wife wants to be able to make food for the fish. I'll have her watch this video.
Glad you liked it. It's pretty easy to make even for someone as lazy as I am
Would steaming be better for preserving the vitamins? I'm going to start making my own food for mine now. Thanks for sharing
Awesome video :) my shrimps love diy food too
When I put the zucchini in they are usually the first to swarm over it. Thanks for coming by
Hello,is the fish food frozen when you feed them or can I feed when the gel has set.?
Cool I am going to give that a try!
Hey Sandy. Give it a go. Thanks for coming by
Thanks for sharing, I've been meaning to try this. Seems pretty painless so now I have no excuses. :(
Hey Greg. Yup it's pretty easy especially when you are cooking something for the family as well (in other words not filming). Thanks for coming by

Great video, ive tried this, fish loved it but im lazy so normally use repashy.
I have not tried this yet... I really do need to
Go for it Dea. You can mod it easily to suit whatever you want. Look forward to the vido

You can put it in a silicone ice cube forms?
Yes. The ones that make the little cubes would be good
Nice video 👍 💞 👊 💜
Much appreciated
I find the shrimp look pretty cool without the red lol Besides fish don’t mind the colour of there food lol
lol
Really cool. How long does it keep in the frozen state?

Have you seen any noticeable results in fish color with feeding this versus just your standard flake food?
Unfortunately I have not done any side by side experiments about it's effects. I simply feed it to everybody. If I get enough spare tanks that would be a good experiment. Thanks for coming by
can you use this for any omnivore species?
Yes and the cool thing about these sorts of things is you can alter the recipe to suit other fishes needs as well. Thanks for watching
Good job
Thank you and thanks for taking the time to watch
I have never thought of making food like this.. hmmm....I guess I'd have to buy a blender first.... ~;0)
Hey Tim! I actually prefer using the dehydrator now. It keeps the food fresh for a long time
@@FishmanEricRussell Well then I'd need to buy one of them haha... hmmm... maybe just stick to my fresh zucchini and cucumbers for the moment...
Hi Eric... this one looks good enough for me to eat. Just leave out the worms for me please!!! ♥♥
I don't know, good protein in those worms lol
So they say... you try them and let me know k? lol

can i do all veggie stuff?

The light red coloured shrimps are males, and the dark red shrimps are females.
awww poor baby shrimplets 😢👍💕💕
Sorry about that. As you can see it doesn't put a dent in the population though
Plecomania
Hey Joe. Yup they love sucking on zucchini
Instructions not clear. I sliced my head in the blender and fed it to my fish.
Lol!
