    Great rundown. As a Memphis native, I only have 1 correction. We are not a dry rub barbecue city. We're ALL ABOUT THE SAUCE! We like a sweet sauce and we like coleslaw on EVERYTHING!!!

    • @allandodson9241
      @allandodson9241 4 года назад +14

      If you like sauce, you go to Corky's or Cozy Corner and if you like dry rub The Rendezvous is the place to go. so it's actually both.

    Being a Memphis native. I would like to give a brief history of the city. The Founder of our great city named it Memphis because it reminded him of his many trips to Egypt. Like Memphis, Egypt which sits on the Nile River we sit on the Mighty Mississippi. Also, many people are unaware that Memphis was one of the cities used on the Underground Railroad for slaves seeking freedom to the North. There is another museum there called Slave Haven. I encourage you to add that one to your list while in Memphis.

      Nice, but not smart...wish he had a Bible on hand to read about the issues that Memphis faced in the Old Testament. I’m African and names are very spiritual and they carry weight ... it’s unfortunate that Memphis is still a struggling city in 2020... I’ll drop one of scriptures you can research and see for yourself...............
      Ezekiel 30:16
      Verse Concepts
      “I will set a fire in Egypt;
      Sin will writhe in anguish,
      Thebes will be breached
      And Memphis will have distresses daily.

      So in other words, don't visit without a local tour guide, or what? How are tourists supposed to know about the safety level of every random street?

    • @thebobbydrake6
      @thebobbydrake6 3 года назад +3

      @@martinusv7433 no "tour guides" really needed. You can actually ask the hotel workers, restaurant employees, museum employees, locals on the streets (both black and white), even the guy with dreadlocks and gold teeth that you were assuming was about to rob you and they will all be friendly and tell you where not to go.
      Tourist rarely get "killed," phyiscally harmed, or even robbed. Cars can be broken into, but that's usually due to some enticing item left in the open.

    • @joeb134
      @joeb134 3 года назад +2

      It was a very fair review. It's not really that unsafe of a city as long as you use good judgment. If it looks dangerous, it probably is. If you feel like you don't belong, you probably don't. Respect yourself, where you are, and the people around you and you are pretty safe.

    I went to art school in Memphis, drove a limo for the Peabody, performed dance choreography, had too good a time. I'd been away from most of 20 years, and a lot of my friends warned me, "You were here during a GOLDEN AGE for Memphis, and that's gone." A few years ago I started taking one of my kids to Memphis Tigers football games, and taking him around town, introducing him to my old haunts.
    My friends were wrong: that Memphis that I knew way back when is still there in abundance. As we were leaving town after our first visit together, my kid asked me, "Daddy, does everyone in Memphis know you? They act like they do!" And I had to say, "Look, Memphis is the world's biggest small town. You show them love, you're gonna get love!"
    I miss Memphis.

      catmodelt yeah it has changed a lot and within the last couple of years. I love living in the south bluff area. The downtown area has seen a lot of investment in the last couple years and the last time I checked I believe there was about15-20 billions dollars invested in new downtown projects and real estate. Give it another couple years and downtown Memphis will be worth twice as much as what’s it was.

The staff of that establishment were first class and gave us a real sense of southern hospitality.

    Hey! I’m a Memphis native and here are some tips:
    - don’t travel alone on foot, have a buddy with you. We do have some crime
    - one and only BBQ is the best around! Their side items are just as good as their bbq. Very important
    - Graceland is in a bad part of town. Just get on the interstate and go, then get back on the interstate and get out. There’s nothing around Graceland but Graceland, so don’t go on a joyride
    - Overton square is a fun and safe place to grab drinks and have dinner. They have fun places. I like the Zebra Lounge for drinks, Lafayette’s for live music, second line is fancy southern food, Babalu has really great margaritas
    - Memphis botanic gardens in the spring and summer have beautiful flowers and is family friendly. Lots of trails to walk and the summer concert series is great there
    - Memphis is a place where you’ll need a car more than likely. Downtown is walkable, but if you want to go to Shelby farms, the botanic gardens, or anything out east, you’ll need a rental car. Uber would be pretty expensive to go out that way. If you want to stay downtown, the zoo, and to Overton square, walking and Uber should be good
