"The little guy" is none other than superstar legend Donny Osmond, who over the years has had many hit records with his brothers & solo, selling millions of albums. Yes, they had a Saturday morning cartoon show & they all played their own voices. Of course, Donny was & is my absolute favorite, since 1971! He is the ultimate entertainer, he's done it all & is extremely talented, playing many instruments along with an incredible voice! He started singing professionally with his 4 performing brothers at 5 yrs old on the hit TV variety show in the 60s The Andy Williams Show. He became an International recording artist both with his brothers and as a solo artist and with had his first #1 Billboard hit with Go Away Little Girl and soared to superstar status with his huge hit 'Puppy Love'. Donny has starred in Broadway productions, co-starred on his International hit TV variety show in the mid 70s with his sister Marie called "The Donny & Marie Show".
The two hosted their own syndicated TV talk show in the late 90s called 'Donny & Marie' and held their 11 year music Residency at The Flamingo, under the same name, which just ended in 2019. Donny was also the Season 9 Winner of Dancing with the Stars & was the very first performer on the hit TV show The Masked Singer (he should've won but was first runner up to T-Pain). You should check out his performances as "The Peacock"! He's currently performing in his 2nd year at his first solo Residency 'DONNY' at Harrah's in Las Vegas! Definitely a MUST SEE when you are in Vegas! His show covers over 6 decades & 65 albums! Donny does not disappoint.😉

I don’t think any of the Osmonds would disappoint because they were taught perfection. Andy was a perfectionist and the Osmonds had to be perfect to be on his show. I have heard Wayne say that he thinks the stress gave him cancer.

The OSMONDS are ALAN (b. 1949), WAYNE (b.1951), MERRILL (b.1953) who's singing the lead on "One Bad Apple", JAY (b.1955), and "the little guy" DONNY (b.1957) who's singing the high-voiced, co-lead on "One Bad Apple", which went to #1 and was composed to sound like a Jackson 5 song. The Osmonds had seven Top-15 hits from 1971 to 1975. All the brothers played multiple instruments! 🎶 Their CARTOON Saturday morning TV was a hit in 1972. 📺The Osmond brothers said they became friends with their 'rival' boy band, the Jackson 5. After the brothers stopped regularly recording and touring, the whole family worked on the popular "Donny & Marie" (their younger sister b. 1959) variety TV show from 1975 to 1979. The awesome Osmonds have sold more than 70 million records worldwide! ⭐ Please react to their live performances of "Down By The Lazy River", "Love Me For The Reason", and "Yo-Yo". BTW: My favorite was Merrill because of his soulful, gritty voice! 😃

The Osmonds. They were the original 'boy band' way before that phrase was coined. The difference though is that most boy band members today don't play instruments. Every member of the Osmonds were all accomplished musicians, drums, guitar, keyboards and more. They wrote all their own lyrics and music. Like K pop create a fan hysteria today, the Osmond fans were equally, if not more hysterical. Crazy Horses is a real rocker by them.

The Osmonds each took lessons in a specialty - one took saxophone lessons, another drum lessons, etc - and then they went home and taught the whole family what they had learned. That’s how they all became so multi-talented. Clever, huh? One of the brothers (maybe Wayne or Alan) took karate lessons, taught the brothers and Marie, and they incorporated some of the moves into their dancing. Everyone had a specialty - dividing the responsibilities. They’ve worked in the entertainment industry all of their lives and have maintained stellar reputations as kind and professional performers. There’s no bad gossip or trashy photos of them. I really respect that.

If people knew the true story of these guys and the four older brothers frustration at not being a true rock band because they had to support D&M and back them up on bubble gum stuff like the above songs that they hated. Go listen to The Plan and where they were headed before getting sidetracked by D&M yet again with the TV show which even Donny is man enough to admit killed the brother's careers as a rock group.

The Osmond Brothers were on television performing with Jerry Lewis and Andy Williams for many years before they broke out into a boy band. Actually the Jackson 5 watched the Osmonds in Vegas before they became popular. The Jackson 5 made it as a boy band just before the Osmond Brothers did. The brothers are Alan, Merrill (the older lead guy) Wayne, Jay and Donny (the young lead) They performed for many years as the Osmonds. One of my favs is called "Yo-Yo" they really do a work-out dancing to that song. What is so amazing is that was 52 years ago!!!!!! Another rockin' one is "Down By The Lazy River" Their sister Marie came up and soon Donny and Marie were paired together, got their own show but all the Osmonds were featured on the show, including the youngest brother Jimmy, who is a few years younger than Marie. Eventually, Donny did his own solo thing and so did Marie...and the Osmonds did their own thing. Marie had a hit song at the age of 13 called "Paper Roses" (and she does NOT sound like a 13 Yr old!) I would like to challenge you guys to now react on the Osmonds much later in their career...also a solo of Donny's as well...to see them now. Donny is doing shows today in Vegas. The older brothers are now...well older and are not able to do much touring due to health issues. The Osmond brothers have the best harmonies ever. I hope you will give them a try through all stages of their career. ONe of my recent favorites of Donny's is "Whenever You're In Trouble"...he wrote it about one of his sons (well, all of them I guess) A good one to listen to of the brothers in later career is "He Ain't Heavy, He's my Brother" its a cover of the Hollies but they do it so well.

Donny was the heart-throb of the group. He was constantly on the cover of all the teen magazines. The Osmonds were basically the white version of the Jackson 5. This song came out in 1970. Then in 1971 the hit "Go Away, Little Girl" came out. Then "Puppy Love" came out in the spring of 1972. It was a huge hit with us pre-teen girls!! By the fall of 1972, a Saturday morning CARTOON came out, called "The Osmonds"!
Little sister Marie Osmond had a big hit in 1973 with "Paper Roses". Then Donny & Marie teamed up for the duet "I'm Leaving It Up to You" in 1974. In 1976, as teenagers, Donny & Marie got their own musical show on Friday night prime-time, which lasted for over 3 years. They sang "I'm a Little Bit Country, I'm a Little Bit Rock 'n' Roll" every week and showcased their individual talents.
Once the 1980's came, the Osmonds were considered old-fashioned and un-cool, especially with their Mormon background. But Donny & Marie hosted an afternoon talk-show in the late 1990's. Since then, Marie does commercials for Nutri-System, and Donny appeared on "The Masked Singer" as The Peacock in 2019.

Not only are the Osmonds an amazing singing group, but the dance moves are so tight in this one, including the spot where they jump in the air. It also doesn’t look like any of the moves are repeated throughout it The Jackson 5 was originally offered this song, but chose the song ABC instead. Michael Jackson’s hit song “Ben” was actually written for Donny Osmond to perform, but since he was on tour, it was given to Michael Jackson instead.

Been an Osmond fan since they were on Andy Williams in the 60s. They have been performing together since before “the little guy”, Donny, was born. Donny is STILL performing in Vegas. Has the #1 show. They were the original boy band. The oldest performer was Alan. When this video was made in 1971 he was 22. Wayne was 20, Merrill (the other lead singer here and the main singer of the group) 18, Jay (my heartthrob and the group’s choreographer) 16 and Donny was not quite 14.
This was their first pop hit, and although it is Uber famous it isn’t their most famous. That would be “Crazy Horses” with Jay on lead.
Donny has had a huge solo career that continues today, as does their only sister, Marie, who is two years younger than Donny. The youngest, Jimmy, was also a performer with hit records. They have two older brothers who are deaf. Donny and Marie hosted a variety show in the 70s for three years. Before that, there was a Saturday morning cartoon featuring the brothers. They’ve also had many other tv shows. Merrill is performing his last few shows before he retires. Jay just finished a run of a musical he wrote and produced about the Osmonds in UK that was a huge hit. Wayne and Alan retired for health reasons several years ago, as did Jimmy. Marie just did a bunch of shows on the east coast for Christmas.
The family is also pretty famous for co-founding the Children’s Miracle Network, which has raised billions of dollars for families with sick children. Marie has been the face of CMN for decades.
Pretty please try “Crazy Horses”. A song they wrote. you will also love their “Love Me For A Reason” and “Down by the Lazy River”. All of these songs have very different sounds. The brothers were so talented! They all play so many different instruments and so so many musical styles. You will be very glad you explored there!

I told my sister later what happened, and that he spoke to me. There was a pause, and she said "He did not!!!". The fangirl came out, which was really surprising!
BTW, I heard him on SIriusXM a few years ago. He told a lot of stories about hanging out with his friend Mike. And how they were driving someplace once, and Mike asked if he wanted to hear the album he was about to drop. Donny said after listening he told Mike "This 'Thriller' album is gonna be huge! It's a masterpiece!"
They had some incredible synchronicity in life. Same age, same birth order (I think), their moms were the same age when they were born, etc.

They were joined on this record by Donny, who achieved great success as a solo artist and as a duet with his sister Marie. (It kind of became a running joke that they had the brightest smiles in the whole world.) The youngest brother, Jimmy, also became part of the group. The two oldest brothers in the family, Virl and Tom, were never part of the group because they had hearing impairments since birth. You have to listen to their song "Like a Yo-yo" There were actually 9 Osmond children, 8 sons and one daughter. The two eldest sons, Tom and Virl were both born deaf...the next 5 sons, Wayne, Alan, Merril, Jay and Donny made up the group "The Osmonds". Their only sister, Marie went on to sing several country chart hits. Then the final child, again a boy, Jimmy joined on to the group for some songs near the end of their group music career. Donny was the only one other than Marie to have a single career. Donny and Marie are both appearing in Las Vegas with success. Yes, they had their own producing studio in Provo Utah and they had the Donny and Marie Variety show, which was a success in the 70' and 80's. As far as voices, I thought Merril had the best rock voice, even though Donny sky rocketed due to his looks and vocal ability. They are a really super family, nice people and my sister actually dated one of the band members back in the 80's. These guys are legit talented...they sang, danced, had a successful recording career, variety show, and played a huge variety of musical instruments......you have to deep dive into who they are and what they produced......you will be amazed.

"One Bad Apple" was written by George Jackson, a staff songwriter at FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. The Osmonds were a young family group from Ogden, Utah, and made a name for themselves performing at Disneyland and on The Andy Williams Show. When they signed with MGM records in 1970, the label sent them to FAME in an effort to duplicate the success of The Jackson 5. George Jackson had written this song with The Jackson 5 in mind, and with production by FAME owner Rick Hall and vocals by 13-year-old Donny Osmond, it sounded very much like a Jackson 5 record. It performed like one too, spending five weeks at #1 in the US.
Rodney Hall, who took over operations at FAME from his dad, told Songfacts how Rick discovered The Osmonds: "My dad heard them in Vegas. Mike Curb flew him out there to see them and said, 'I'm not going to tell you who it is, because you won't go if I tell you who it is,' because they'd done The Andy Williams Show, but they hadn't had a hit or a big record. So he flew out there and he dug 'em and decided to cut them like the Jackson 5. He told George to write them a Jackson 5 song and that was it. I've heard the rumor that Barry Gordy sent my dad a Western-Union that said, 'Stop stealing my f--king music.'"

So cool to see you cover the Osmonds. Merrill was the lead singer, and just retired this year. The little one is Donny Osmond and he has 65 albums, and has a hit show in Vegas right now. The brothers are, in order of age, Alan, Wayne, Merrill, Jay, and Donny. They also have a little brother named Jimmy who was not in this act yet but had a solo career of his own and was the first to get a gold record.
Donny later had a solo career, and also a partnership with his sister, Marie. Donny and Marie had not one but two TV shows, and they also had a long running show in Vegas. The Osmonds as a main group toured world wide, had a cartoon back in the 70's, and caused mania in England. They wrote many of their own songs, and went from Pop to Rock & Roll to country. They were huge.
I was a Donny girl, as I was only 8 years old when One Bad Apple came out. His early hits were Go Away LIttle Girl and Puppy Love, and his most recent album is called Start Again, which came out in 2021. Marie is still entertaining, still on Tour, and Jay put out a musical that was a big hit in the UK over the past year and is coming to Canada and the US soon, hopefully. The little guy is Donny Osmond. The Osmonds were a lot like the Jackson Five, both families had nine kids. The Jacksons had 6 boys and 3 girls, while the Osmonds had 8 boys and 1 girl. Both acts started with 5 boys and a younger brother later joined each group. And of the original 5 members of each group, both Donny and Michael were the youngest and had the most success.
Born less than a year apart, Donny and Michael were friends and often compared to each other. Now that I think about it, their whole careers are very similar. The Jacksons had popularity through the seventies and eighties, The Osmonds lasted throughout the seventies. Of the brothers, Michael was the biggest star and Donny was biggest of the Osmonds. Both families had one daughter stand out and make it big; for the Osmonds it was Marie, she was a country singer, and of course for the Jacksons it was Janet. Also, both families had a Varity Act in Vegas, TV Varity shows, and Saturday morning cartoons.
Donny and Marie had a verrry successful act in Vegas and a TV show both called, "Donny and Marie." And they had a hit song called, "I'm a Little Bit Country and I'm a Little Bit Rock and Roll."
Donny had two hit songs in 1989, one called, "Sacred Emotion," and the other called, "Soldier of Love." He also sang, "I'll Make a Man Out of You," from the Disney movie, "Mulan." Donny also won season 1 of The Masked Singer as The Peacock. He had an outstanding Broadway career including being Joseph in, "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat." Today, Donny is working in Vegas still, doing his own show as well as one with his sister Marie.

The Osmond brothers were formed into a barbershop quartet in hopes of buying hearing aids and other expenses, for their two older deaf brothers. The had great harmonies-and made the youngest, Jay, do some cute bits of trying to keep up. The just walked around Disneyland and performed, when they were spotted by Andy Williams’s father, who suggested his son put them on his show. He did-they were a hit, and later Donnie was introduced, and then he became the star.
Not so much natural musical talents, they had to learn to play the piano in a week, to ice skate, among other dances, songs and harmonies, and everything was live on tv.
Donnie couldn’t even read, but he had to perform it all perfectly.
Later, he had panic attacks, and they struggled in business and their relationships.
The 4 original brothers were pushed to the side, however, and it was not always a happy life, for any of them. Still, they were wonderful, and am so glad they are being remembered.
