Its just pasteurized milk. What keeps it fresh is the tetra pack packaging, it spoils after opened if not placed in the fridge. (Every tetra packed milk has an explanation of the process of pasteurization) Costa Rican here

We live in Alajuela city, and we buy 3 gallons of fresh raw milk every week from a dairy farmer at an organic market in San Jose. We also get butter from her. The milk stays fresh in our fridge all during the week as we consume it. It doesn't go bad quickly. We would never buy the boxed milk. YUK!

Does the wine have sulfites? etc, etc. I'll find out maybe when I get there. Would be nice to know because going there partially to escape the standard American toxic diet. Cheers!

When an egg comes out of a chicken it has a natural antimicrobial film that protects it so it doesn't have to be refrigerated and will last about a month, however, the pasteurization process removes this film requiring the egg to be refrigerated.

The reason they can let eggs go unrefrigerated is that they don't wash the egg. The hen leaves a protective coating when she lays the egg. US producers wash it off. Ticos do not.

The reason that cheese is expensive in CR is because there are few cows. It's just not the right environment for raising cows. nir Nor much better either. Butter is a funny color with less fat content. Eggs are not the same.either. Climate is not the best for fat content.
