It's even more difficult to be a Kareena fan after watching this movie.
The problem is Hrithik’s acting was still better than all others in the movie. Just think about others 😭

Gaurav W his acting made me sleep. And btw it was Hrithik’s role because of which he had to act that way. Script plays an important role. Abhishek bachchan’s acting? Nope sorry. And pankaj kapoor is a legendary actor, I love that guy so I won’t disagree there.

I disagree with the statement that Hirthik grew after this -I mean he did Fiza as his first movie even when it came after KNPH and he did so well in both! This movie was just an awful aberration.

Kareena was a bad actress at that time... Something happened to her from jab we met onwards... Prior to that, all she did was overact, rolled her eyes and did nothing else
She still does that in many films like Veere Di Wedding... Even her character Geet in JWM is over-the-top and hence suited her overacting style...

Loved achara's positive take on the movie's tone but to be honest, the movie downright sucked, and I sat in the topmost row at the theatre. It was a lot to take in even from that distance!!

Only Desi and Yogi Baba mostly does Hindi inside jokes which will completely fly over their heads and it's mostly in Hindi without subtitles so it's maybe not a good idea

How they will understand yogi baba jokes. That's why i said, we have very good movies and shows in marathi, telugu, tamil, malayalam, bangla etc languges but we just sometime recommend them those things which they can't understand.

No Jaby, This movie is an exception, Earlier Indian films are very real too.
The story line of this movie is similar to an old Hindi movie Chit Chor released in 1976 starring Amol Palekar, Zarina Wahab and Vijayendra Ghadge. Chitchor is a lot better movie to watch with beautiful song.

You are right Jaby, Indian films have their roots in theaters. Therefore musical, therefore over acting, therefore no subtly. And it got stuck for a long time. Now both theatre and cinema have evolved.

Just some info:-
1. Yes they are the best of friends in real life.
2. Well most of the Indian films back then had to be like this because
A. Movies are made according to people's choices.
B. Everyone wanted to have a great time ,so even if it feels cringe now, I remember my older knowns(parents,friends) loving this movie when it came out.
C. It was all around ,people used to copy the styles of the movie and actually it was popular. Ofcourse the mind set changes after 10+ years and the style of comedy and serious acting changes.. but being over the top was a style of its own back then..
D. To be in all fareness ,there video was a parady(they said it themselves) and the movie is fun to watch once. Though I feel it wouldn't relate to anyone from today's gen

8:30 yeah, jaby is on to something here.. thats EXACTLY the theory i came up with and kinda confirmed it in my native..
Think about it guys, around 70% of India is rural population, and in rural areas (including my own native) they are very used to the "local theater" we call it "Natak or notanki" or "nataka" in south india, which translated to "drama" in english..
that is why most indian movies have songs and dance numbers in between, just like "theater plays" have.. and majority of our Indian audience are loving it.. very good observation jaby..

It's definitely a fun movie and Hrithik-Kareena chemistry is awesome. And whether people admit it or not, it's still one of the most popular movies of the time like Baghban and Hum apke hain kaun. Some scenes actually keep you on the edge of your seats while others touch your heart. It's a nice, funny movie despite the over the top acting. ❤😘 Love you guys ❤😘

Also this movie is not at all a theatre production. It's just another commercial production house.
Actors like Nawaz, and Pankaj Kapoor (who was the dad in this movie) are truly good actors that come from a theatrical background.

I feel theatre acting is like that because of the emphasis on the art or literature perspective of it. The abstractness and fiction or drama part of it needing to be conveyed. To make it larger than life

Theater is hard (like any other live performance) because there are no re-takes. They have to act perfectly, for each line and all the time.
Finally, I commented about "Pretentious Movie Reviews" around 2 years back. A few videos have been removed though.

Jaby is really on to something.. Bollywood does seem to have evolved from the travelling theatre.
Jaby is spot on with the theater remark.
When Indian movies started, the people who were making them used to go around the country making song and dance shows.
Small time troupes doing low budget stage and street theatre.
This has been going on in India since centuries, possibly millennia.
So it was quite natural that when their medium evolved to become the talkies, they retained elements from their art form.
Although once the makers(now rather well off) started being exposed to Hollywood, they started appropriating some superficial elements into Indian movies. So you'll see costumes, music and set design from movies in the 60s and 70s just lifted from Hollywood movies.
When however the Indian economy opened up to American players(1991 reforms), regular Joes(Jays?) now had access to Hollywood content which became more popular by the end of the 90s. Hence you see a shift towards the style of movies that was ushered in by Dil Chahta Hai.
And increased broadband speed, piracy and finally OTT platforms like Netflix and Amazon Prime have done the same for Indian TV content.
When consumers haven't seen the best in the world, it makes economic sense to slack off. But when you're competing against the most well funded players in the world, you gotta pull up your socks.
Of course, the shift in the style of movies being made indicates a shift in the taste of the more affluent segment of Indians. Although they only make about 20% of the population, 80% of the money spent on movies comes from them. This is both because of higher volumes and higher ticket prices.
Same for TV, when earlier TV show success was measured by eyeballs and a rich person's view was worth the same as a poor person's view, Netflix has given leverage to money.
Kind of like a RUclips vs Patreon paradigm shift.
