This guy is definitely good. I could honestly see him making this work even if the kid was resisting and fighting back 100%, because his footwork is nice and smooth. There are so many people on you tube that claim to be full instructors, senior instructors, senior full instructors, that are not even one tenth as smooth as this guy....Excellent.
Its actually very hard to find here in the Philippines, even in the province. I would like to meet this guro and learn from him. Yes this is the real deal!
Curt Conyers it's because westerns love guns and when they do grapple they usually just throw punches. To you people power is everything in a fight. Lol, I live near a military camp. Our soldiers are insanely trained in this deadly martial art. Once there was an occassion and there used to be drinking. Two men went nuts while drunk and fought with blades. Lol a soldier happen to be patrolling. He had a gun but he left it in the military truck and proceeded in dealing with the two fighting. One tried to stab him and when it missed, there in front of us the soldier performed in a matter of 3 seconds an extremely fast disarming technique of eskrima. The drunk bastard was just realizing what happened to him and before he knew it his whole arm is broken and he couldn't stand up in pain. The other drunk obviously stopped and lay down his dagger.
Curt Conyers the point is westerns rely too much on fighting style which is entirely based on developing body power to deal lethat strikes. Asian martial arts are execution. And especially for escrima which is made in order to kill an opponent in a blink of an eye. If you are capable enough, those moves can be executed properly. Just like how in theory you should stay low on the ground in a live fire to reduce the chances of you being a target.
I went to school with a guy who teaches this. He's the nicest dude, very humble, and FAST AS HELL! He could break 6 of your bones in the time it took you to read this sentence!
mad respect for you sir. back in the day i also competed in arnis so i really appreciated how well you execute both arnis and mano-mano techniques. thanks to people like you our heritage in stick fighting still continues to live on today.
The little guy is a good sport. The teacher is obviously showing some very advanced techniques for the camera. From my experience I saw a guy who trained in silat waste 2 guys in a real fight. Nothing fancy just really fast attacks. His buddies didn't even bother to help like it wasn't worth their time. It was a cool fight. I got to know the guy a little, super cool dude was a big believer in respect.
@Dean Natuno..you can find a lot of good arnis instructor in cebu city phils. actualy lot of hollywood superstars used to go there just to study arnis.. its a very effective self defense
This is the reason Escrmima (open hands/hand to hand) combate style isn't used on UFC or MMA fights. That martial art is made in order to kill an opponent. It doesn't rely on brute force like Muay Thai or Krav Maga but rather accurate excecution that would render your opponent dead an instant.
This is a good for a real fight, i love this kind of techniques 99.9 so very effective moves! But i respect all kind of martial arts techniques to depend your self , and you learned how to do self defense.
Usually a teacher uses one or two of his best senior students whom he uses for demonstrations. An expert teacher & an able student can make the demo appear more realistic by faking terrible pain sometimes, but they've done it in a controlled & safe condition, or else the demo could not proceed further to the next level. They are not only experts in doing such.... sometimes they are good actors too. There are times when they can be funny to entertain spectators.
the stick part is good but I remember one person talking about aliveness in martial arts and thats something bjj, boxing and thai boxing are goood at, there is resisteance not just punching and standing there but i still think filipino martial arts is effective as it includes boxing and some type of wing chun handwork, pretty cool stuff!
Jothunheim that's how they usually treat their students it's pretty normal really since you're going to experience that kind of treatment during a fight or sparring. They are probably black belts or whatever respective ranking they belong to, to be handled like that usually.
+Jothunheim This "rough" practice is nothing compared to the reality of a fight that they would experience on their streets or even in a more developed nation. This is a less than realistic demonstration of a fight. His Uke was also very well trained in falling. I am sure he is fine with this sort of training.
+Jothunheim there's this training of them where they receive numbers of blows on different part of the body to feel the pain of being hit by a stick. His being too rough to his students is nothing actually. The art teaches you to be tough both physically and mentally.
+Jothunheim LOL - what are you talking about? He was taking it easy on the kid! In Systema we regularly get hit. Either you learn martial arts the right way or you better sign up for a knitting class.
Are you still teaching here in the Philippines. If so where please? I can see the strength of this system and would love to join in to practice. Salamat Po
That's because the sinawali is timed. They were doing the sinawali drill, thus, timing is the key there. It may look cool, but if in case of a real fight, it's nonsense.
Even some bulky dude spar with Mr.Ernesto it will be the same situation and more on a reckless dummy, he mastered Judo,Karate,Jujitsu and a Grand Master of Kali or Arnis think twice men.
Hello sir baka interested po kayo, ako po ung small guy na kapartner if your interested in filipino martial arts just send me an email sir. cajigasjeffrey415@gmail.com
Being a recent R-BTK ( right side, below the knee ) Amputee, and now having to learn how to walk all over again with the new Prosthetic Leg...all the while living in a bad part of the city...this looks interesting to me, as a viable form of "G.T.F. away from me-defence". Although I do live in Tennessee U.S.A. which does have not only the " Stand Your Ground Law, as well as the Castle Law " I don't want to take a life unless I have to. Busting knuckles seems to make people back away from you. Very interesting indeed. Thank you for posting this for me. With all due respect, Mr. T.C. Cross aka : 12 Block Tokie Kingsport, Tennessee U.S.A.
carry a knife man if you think its not safe around your area always carry a weapon use if only needed never show your weapon a weapon is only effective when unseen
Taking a life is the very last thing I ever want to do. Since getting my sticks and a stack of tires, I've started to get the basics of Filipino Stick Fighting down, my movements are becoming smoother, and quicker. Soon, I will seek Professional Assistance, and be taught by an Instructor with the knowledge I will need to absorb, to safely keep myself defended and in defensive-mode, at all times. I choose never to attack, only to defend, if at all possible. ~ Mr. Cross ~
What system/s are you learning? I think if I were an amputee, I'd have a super-light but super-strong cane, and focus 2/3 of my time on a largo-mano (long-range) system. There are *lots* of systems out there where 80% of their techniques are pointless, imo.
This guy is pure class he doesn't need any fancy place to train just out on a dirt road, lets go!
This guy is definitely good. I could honestly see him making this work even if the kid was resisting and fighting back 100%, because his footwork is nice and smooth. ***** Lmao. They do that shit everyday in the Philippines...
+Janov Mercolita this isnt for killing its for self defence... + this is TRAINING for DEFENCE not TRANING for KILLING/BATTLE

Grand master ernesto..good technique i want to learn your technique were is you club in phillipines?
he's good, he's very very good, but he's too rough on the little guy, the student respects the teacher, but the teacher must respect his student too
Jothunheim that's how they usually treat their students it's pretty normal really since you're going to experience that kind of treatment during a fight or sparring. They are probably black belts or whatever respective ranking they belong to, to be handled like that usually.

Galing
One question about ARNIS does drilling with bamboo sticks really improves your hand combat skills? awesome hand/feet fencing btw.
yup, a lot. From there, you can find alternatives for the old one-two jab you westerners love to flaunt.
Earnesto is really cocky on this demo when he was throwing the sticks then catching it is a real show of plus not looking is a no no.
