- This video is a step-by-step how to guide for the removal and replacement of a rear wheel bearing on the Toyota AYGO, Citroen c1 and Peugeot 107.
They can be really tight to remove and I would recommend buying a slide hammer, you can pick them up from eBay or Amazon for around £30 it would make the job easier, although I did manage to do it without one.

little tip. Put two screws 10mm into two opposite holes in the hub. Put the counternuts from the inside of the hub and start turning the bolts one at a time. Hub comes out smooth👍

Just ordered two new hubs and brake set for both rear wheels. Will be fighting with this probably next week when they arrive. Thanks for a great video and wish me luck cuz my Aygo has got 218,000 mi on the clock and this is the first wheel bearing replacement in the rear 🤣

@@aaanton11 Job done. Oh dear Lord. I'm glad ive got my 3kg hammer 😀Your method with bashing the bolt from the back didn't work for me at all. I managed to do it just wacking the wheel hub as bearings were going scap anyway. 4 hours for both sides. But my Aygo has 220k on the clock and that's first time i replaced rear wheel bearings. THey were proper stuck. And don't forget to adjust shoes as I was running out of time last night and didn't want to wake everybody up in the area. Adjusted this morning and everything works perfeclty fine.

Watching this after doing this job today.
Didn't have a slide hammer, and struggled just the same. I drifted the assy around (after the bolts removed) with a big cold chizzel on the lugs, to break the corrosion. Then put the wheel back on and stamped on the wheel back and forth to work it loose.
I also found the ABS screw to be corroded so the torx just stripped out. Has to slacken off the cable and leave it in place, till the assy was free, then work on it that way.
Went together easilly, though reassembling the brakes was a bit of a painful process.

Done good for a first timer.These small Toyotas are pretty easy and simple to do at cheap price as i have a 2002 Yaris so thanks for the tips.I spray underneath everywhere front & back with WD-40 incl the engine bay thoroughly top to bottom 2x a year and that keeps my rust at ease and it's holding up pretty good.

@@toy838 Check the rubbers from both rear lights.
I found to take off the bearing, getting a long bolt sturdy enough to fit through the wheel nut hole but strong enough not to bend. With a nut on the underside of the wheelnut hole and slowly tighten which In turn will pull the hub bearing out of its position, taking care not to tighten the nut on the bearing itself. No slide hammer, heat or thrashing the back of the bearing with a hammer.

@@fookayou8607 - That's an understatement. Bought a slightly beaten Renault Trafic to which the previous owner (construction company) put some quite crappy alloy wheels. Without no other care.
All dandy, here I go with my >35 years mechanical experience and education and tons of vehicles under the belt, change some winter tires.
On one of my, presently, 6 vehicles! How hard can it be? Right? WRONG!!! 8 hours in total, spread over 2 days!! LOL 😂
I kid you not, had to go and buy a 6 Kg sledge hammer and bash them out. I used large pieces of 2x4 wood in between. Well I destroyed to bits at least 5 pieces of 2x4! Eventually got them out. Meanwhile and just as expected wheel bearings in all 4 corners had to be changed. The first failed just a few weeks after, the remaining before a year passed...
Clean and lubed hub face, no. Proper dimension (tolerance) of the wheel spigot vs hub, no. Bimetallic corrosion between hub (steel) and wheel (crappy aluminium alloy), YES, a lot!
All that in a country where "rust" as it's own citizenship card!
BTW surprisingly or not I do have power tools, pneumatic tools, torch, etc. ;-)

Haven't done one of these since back in the 80's on a Mini 1275GT, seems pretty easy if not having to deal with loads of corrosion!

Next time put a pipe on the back and hit it with a big Hamer, remove the shock bottom bold also. Easy way

mine makes this long loud groaning noise as soon as it gets above ten mile an hour but really picks up towards 30 onwards, sounds like its coming from rear passenger side do you think this could be it ? thanks

Currently doing this and we cannot get it out. Using heat etc but it really is not budging

can a worn wheel bearing be the reason my C1 always has a crooked steering wheel? I've had alignments done three times. Last time I thought it was fixed, but after some time the steering wheel loosened up a bit and now It's back to being slightly crooked again. The problem appeared out of nowhere, when one day I felt the car was pulling to the right. It doesn't pull anymore, but the steering wheel isn't precisely straight when I'm going in a straight line, and I want to get it fixed before I give the car to a relative. I'm not hearing any noises coming from around the wheels though.

Can we replace the actual bearings for €20 instead of buying full assembly for €80. Is it easy to knock out old bearings and replace them?

No you can’t buy the bearing separate it is all the same assembly including ABS ring etc, 👍🏻👍🏻

Yeah, this is the tool i am currently looking for.
Another idea i saw on the internet and which i will try today is to use the wheel bolts to kinda screw them right through the plate and to push the bearing with them out (by putting some wrenches under the plate)
Also i lubed the part yesterday pretty much, so is a bit easier to get off today.

Just for an update:
I neither did got the tool, nor long blots to push the bearing off.
But a lot simpler method helped me ...
After loosing all the screws and removing the brakes, i put on the wheel again on the bearing and just literally kick it off from inside direction ^^ worked like a charm

Got an Aygo and when I turn corners there is a knocking noise from the rear wheel, is it possible wheel bearings as no noise in a straight line?
unusual to be the bearing, try jacking it up and rocking the wheel, see if there is any play in the bearing, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
@@aaanton11 No the wheel is rigid on the hub. It is the near side rear wheel that knocks when I turn to the right. Any ideas?
Paul Dean it’s possibly the drum brakes being a bit rusty (it happens if you don’t drive the car often). Try lifting the car up with the brakes disengaged and try to turn that wheel. If it’s hard to spin, you will know that the drum brakes are rusty. My mechanic knocked the drum brakes with a hammer slightly and a lot of dust came out. Then he would drive around and make sharp turns and would engage the handbrake while driving (not all the way of course) to get rid of the rust and this helped.
I always smear the corroded faces with copper grease after removing the rust...that way next time it needs changing it will just slide out. Also on the hub housing bolt threads. I use it on almost everything for reassembly.

@@aaanton11 I still have one car I bought in 1980, though it was rebuilt for racing in 2001. It's always nice to know that all threads were copper greased, everything comes undone like on a new car still.

what sort of mileage can you get from the 1.0 engine ? I'm thinking of getting a Toyota aygo but I do about 25k miles a year 🤔
This aygo has done 190,000 miles and is still on the original engine, as long as the oil is kept nice, they run forever, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠

Yeah mine was stuck on.. I had to remove the brake shoes.. And then I used a chisel in between the hub and the back plate.. It was only ment to be a half hr job

DONT....warm it up. you dont need that, only trekk it out whit spindel trekk. if you warm it up, you kan hit the hydraulick oil, this is wrong way to take it of,
