I'm a retired Montessori teacher. I like your ideas..teacher- made materials are great. You might enjoy the book "Teaching Montessori in the Home". The book contains patterns for more hands-on materials..making your own sandpaper letters and numbers. Teach lower case first..less confusing for them. Have fun teaching Luke.
I love these ideas! Now that we've started homeschooling my oldest two, I've been in search of activities to keep my two year old busy, these will definitely be helpful!
You might enjoy my channel too... my daughter is also 2 and I am a childminder to toddlers so share lots of montessori inspired resource and activity ideas. Hope you enjoy xxx
With your pompoms you can give her a tweezer or larger grabber that utilize the same hand grip. She can grab the pom poms with the tool so it reinforces pre writing pre cutting fine motor skills
These are great. Thank you. Be careful with plastics from dollar stores. Those cheaper plastics are made from harmful chemicals. Also, that's a chameleon, not an iguana. You are super creative. That's a lucky kid.
Jen ny , you are right! we need to be careful with cheap plastic..my kids like to put everything in the mouth...maybe we should consider other alternatives..great video anyway...
I will try all of these! My daughter is almost 2 and she is the hardest part of homeschooling my firat grader. I am always on the hunt for activities at the table I can do with her while my other daughter does schoolwork. thank you thank you thank you.
I love that you showed what items you shopped for, how you put these games together, and then how the child plays with it. Such a great video! Would love to see more of this type of educational learning fun activities, thanks Hillary!
The only thing I remember from my first day of school is playing with those lacing cards. I love all these activities, and I don't have any kids! It's not a necessity to go and buy expensive toys. The dollar tree books are so cute!
Oh and I picked up some of those wood letters from Michaels the other day because they were on crazy clearance. I didn't have a use for them (shame!) so now I do!!
Great ideas! Thank you for sharing Hillary am starting a daycare centre soon and was thinking of incorporating montessori in to it and this video really helped,Looking forward to more videos.
So much fun - our girls are in the same season of learning. The new series of Dollar Tree books look great! Did you also get the little colored pom-poms from Hobby Lobby? I've been looking for that size for the same type of activity. Have you gone the the channel, "The Purple Alphabet." Tons of ideas there.
When I was a para in an early childhood class we would place pom pon balls on the floor, and give each child a clothspin. They would have to pick up the pom pon ball with the clothspin and carry it in the clothspin to a bucket where they would release it into the bucket. It combined gross motor and fine motor skills. The kids loved that game.
I absolutely adored your video!! What great ideas! Im in another continent and we do not have hobby lobby or dollar stores here. Material wise we are poor but I will try to be inspired by some of your projects with whatever we have at hand. Thank you!!
I am so inspired by Montessori system of education. The system of education is both a philosophy of child development and a rationale to child growth. Read more about it on SchoolWiser. schoolwiser.com/schools/gurgaon/our-montessori-house-omh-play-pre-school-daycare-sector-48-sohna-road
Hilary, these will be so nice to do with my son while my daughter is at preschool:) I need to bond with my boy again! Thank you! So cool! Take Care--- Brandis
So fun! Toddler learning is a blast! You could also do impressions in the play dog with the letters and make her name! Counting the animals is always fun too! Evey will have so much fun!
Love these! I worked in a Montessori school for almost 4 years. I ordered books for my yet to be born baby every time they placed book orders. By the time I had my son we had a huge library for him :) Before 3 is a critical time to work with your kids and give them the foundation for the lifetime of knowledge :) Great job, Mom!
Wow, thank you! Ur giving me hope after a new month of my baby turning into a toddler from heck... I mean I know this is for later but it still gives me hope. Ty!
I never did dedicated sensory bins with Evey, but we did have them at the daycare I taught at many years ago. We would fill them seasonally with items that pertained to the season: seashells, plastic beach toys, sand in bottles for summer/ fabric leaves, pine cones, acorns in bottles for fall/ fake snow in bottles and real snow in winter/ fake flowers, twigs, play bugs in spring. I found for Evey the best sensory experiences were to actually get out in nature and experience them first hand :)
As an ECE is these activities make me cringe! I know you are trying to do what is best for your child and you mean well, but these activities are not developmentally appropriate at all. She is a toddler, let her play!
Great activities! Those books were total scores and can be used in so many ways. I will have to check my Dollar Tree for the one with the kite...so cute!
Great Ideas Hillary. Funny thing...while watching your sequencing game I remembered when my daughter learned that. Gr 1...she was shown by me when younger but didn't do it in school until Gr 1, Evey will be well prepared when she heads to school. Great Job!!. Check out the Purple Alphabet, she's awesome and I also enjoy Jady A, she homeschools and has some great learning activities as well.
In my child development class on Thursday my group and i are going intothe daycare at my high school. My group and i are going into the toddler room what kined of activitys do they like
Oh Lordy 🤦🏻♀️ that is a rhombus people. A diamond is a stone NOT the shape. As a kinder teacher, if your child calls it a diamond in their "entrance exam" they will not get it correct
I tried the hair scrunchies and pompoms with the boys I babysit (1.5 year old twins) and they just kept putting them in their mouths/possibly eating them ?? Any idea on how to handle this and any alternative ideas on sorting, picking up with fine motor, etc?

superd ideas very nice
I don't think the tooth pic one is very safe for toddlers.
Angela Weaver is use Qtips instead
She's obviously closely supervising her kid while doing that activity. It's fine
somethingsmatter you obviously dont have kids.kids get into everything in just a blink of an eye some also get stuff and run away.
Angela Weaver well it's her kid!😡👿(>﹏
Orange Chicken it’s safe as long as you are watching your kid like you should be.

Oh yes, Jady A! I just subscribed to hear a few weeks ago, and we worked together on a collab this morning. She's full of good ideas too.
