    I'm a retired Montessori teacher. I like your ideas..teacher- made materials are great. You might enjoy the book "Teaching Montessori in the Home". The book contains patterns for more hands-on materials..making your own sandpaper letters and numbers. Teach lower case first..less confusing for them. Have fun teaching Luke.

    With your pompoms you can give her a tweezer or larger grabber that utilize the same hand grip. She can grab the pom poms with the tool so it reinforces pre writing pre cutting fine motor skills

    When I was a para in an early childhood class we would place pom pon balls on the floor, and give each child a clothspin. They would have to pick up the pom pon ball with the clothspin and carry it in the clothspin to a bucket where they would release it into the bucket. It combined gross motor and fine motor skills. The kids loved that game.

    Have you ever tried sensory bins with your toddler? They look really fun. I have not but if you have can you tell me how they worked out for you.

    • @OldWorldHome
      @OldWorldHome  8 лет назад +2

      I never did dedicated sensory bins with Evey, but we did have them at the daycare I taught at many years ago. We would fill them seasonally with items that pertained to the season: seashells, plastic beach toys, sand in bottles for summer/ fabric leaves, pine cones, acorns in bottles for fall/ fake snow in bottles and real snow in winter/ fake flowers, twigs, play bugs in spring. I found for Evey the best sensory experiences were to actually get out in nature and experience them first hand :)
