the song is even more complex than you think. It is about the representation of two solitudes. A gay man and a hetero man (Blanco is heterosexual) incapable to express their feelings to the loved one, losing everything. Somehow a message of equality where differences are way more nuanced. If you think about it it is one of the first songs to tear down the virtual wall that separates the sentimental lives of gays and heterosexual men ^^

I agree: this song is a way more important and deeper message. The sexual orientation of the two singers is something that really does not matter to many of us (me included), what matters is the way they are able to make us all fit their shoes - for the time of the song - and let us feel, understand, sympathise with them and what they want to express through their lyrics.
Then, their ability to put up a show while singing, and their chemical-interactions, are something that adds up to the beauty of the song.

@@TheGaylyMirrorTV Anyway check the other Blanco's songs "Notti in bianco" "la canzone nostra" "Mi fai impazzire". He's the best selling artist of 2021 far more than Maneskin and all his singles have been huge hits. You'll love his music. He often fills his videos with glbtq elements... I'd say that despite he's heterosexual he's far more exposed to the glbtq world than Mahmood ahahaha :-D

For the first time in Italy two men on stage sing about love, and they do it to each other. They are telling us a story and everyone can see his story.
They are telling us that, no matter the sexual orientation, love hurts everyone equally.

I like how they did the harmony to make the voices go well together but remain recognisable at every moment. This is an exceptionally well written song - let's not forget Michelangelo, the producer.
I think it is also a song composed with Eurovision in mind. It has everything in it that could please an international audience.
As far as I know, strong contenders for victory this year could be Elisa and Irama. Their songs are doing well too, but I don't think they are as good as this one and they are not as suitable for Eurovision.

Mahmood officially comes out in the official video, Blanco is straight, the song wants to make it clear that love and feelings are difficult for everyone, men, women, straight or gay. Their chemistry is extraordinary.

ok so Blanco may be straight but in the video and in the song, why do you think his *character* is also straight? They sing *to* each other on stage, I don't understand why in the video they are supposed to be singing about their respective relationships with other people (one gay, one straight relationship) instead of their own troubled relationship. @@c.t.7386 Aw..man..at the beginning of the video you see Mahmood naked hugging his guy...and he's not Blanco... And blanco says "tu, coi tuoi occhi da vipera" ( you, with your viper like eyes), "vipera" is a female genre word and "occhi da vipera" his mostly used referred to a woman, or it would have been "snake eyes" (snake, male genre word)..they are singing about their respective loved ones. I know that those are things that with the english translation cannot be understood cause english words have no genre.
@@Cosmopavone I knew it had to do with the gender of some of the words. They did show Blanco with a woman very briefly and it barely even registered, I had to rewatch it to notice. This makes it even more interesting!
In the videoclip Mahmood is with a boy, Blanco with a girl, moreover the first when he sings is addressed to a man the second to a woman because adjectives and nouns are declined in the masculine and the feminine. On stage they are alone who should be watching? In real life Mahmood is engaged to a boy Blanco with a girl, search on google.

Sanremo is the Italian contest only for Italian music.
It’s not a selection for the Eurovision contest absolutely not. In Europe many countries have this wrong idea. But In italy we have this our own historical contest just for us.
This is the 72nd edition older than Eurovision.
Eurovision contest was born inspired by the Italian one.
In the past the winners were not usually to participate to the Eurovision because Sanremo was enough, now they partecipate just for marketing to sell more album.

Being Italian my-self, I know the story of Sanremo and the importance that this Festival has for the Italian culture and people: we must admit that having a connection to Eurovision now, Sanremo is revitalised, boosted...and that the songs have finally stopped to only look back at the past of our fantastic Country... but now have a projection to the present days... to the future too. Then, we need to accept the fact that participating to Sanremo, like to every kind of contest, it is indeed a way for every artist to invest on their career and sell as many albums as possible.

La ""mise e scene" che hanno fatto Mahmood e Blanco è stata eccezionale, soprattutto nella prima serata... hanno rappresentato, interpretato, la canzone, vorrei dire quasi come se fosse un brano di un musical...
Non importa se uno è gay e l'altro è etero... sono due cantanti che interpretano un testo, e al meglio... vocalmente e anche attorialmente...
Questo è stato uno dei grandi punti di forza dell'interpretazione della prima serata....
Gli occhi negli occhi, il dito indice puntato, Blanco che afferra il bavero della giacca di Mahmood che fa quella specie di smorfia come reazione.... poi l'abbraccio liberatorio finale...
Vedendo le varie reaction internazionali ho notato che questo interpretare - non solo cantare, - la canzone ha sicuramente aggiunto un livello superiore al brano e colpito le persone...
Quindi mi piace pensare - come in un musical o un film - a un prima (quello che è successo) ma anche a un dopo, non dando magari per scontato che dopo questo grido di sofferenza per "il veleno che ci sputiamo addosso ogni giorno" non possa arrivare una riconciliazione che poggia su basi più profonde e consapevoli dopo un percorso doloroso ma forse necessario.
Infatti spesso accade che nelle relazioni ci siano dei "turning points" in cui ci si butta addosso tutto il veleno che si ha dentro, pur amando l'altro, e a volte è possibile una riconciliazione, magari su basi ancora più forti.
Quindi chissà, non sappiamo cosa è successo prima, e non sappiamo cosà succederà dopo...ma questo testo forte, potente, ci colpisce, ci emoziona.... ed è sicuramente uno degli elementi di successo di questo brano, è un "racconto" universale...
il paragone ad un musical è un qualcosa che trovo molto poetico. grazie per aver preso del tempo per scrivere un commento così profondo e bello. Credo che nell'interpretazione (vocale e di scena) che hanno regalato a noi tutti, Mahmood e Blanco, ci sia proprio un turning point che verso la fine della canzone ci fa capire quanto bello e profondo quel sentimento di cui cantano, sia diventato.

I felt this sexual tension too :P and I'm a straight italian girl, but I didn't know Blanco (first time I saw/heard him) and I didn't know about Mahmood's sexual orientation too, but what I felt from their performance and their interaction and connection on stage was pure "love", as if they were sing to each other :).. I think everyone can interpret things in different ways, but since they sang this together, I had the feeling as they acted as lovers to share their emotions even more and they did it very well!

But why do so many Italians say that the gender of the words Blanco uses and the inclinations of the verbs indicate that he is singing to a woman? I don’t speak italian but it now makes sense because he was with a woman when he sang about the viper eyes…ugh I need to learn Italian now.
@@c.t.7386 Actually both Blanco and Mahmood have used neutral words, there aren't gender related words (male/female person) in this song ;). Maybe they assume this because "viper" is feminine, but Blanco also says "a boxer" that is a masculine term, but there aren't words related to a person. Also, they know that Blanco has a girlfriend so it's right to think he talks to her but this is in his private context, but on stage it's different because what matter is what they make you feel, their message was clear and the song is gender free precisely because their sexual orientation as they are as people in private isn't the point, love is equal for everyone and on stage they are singers/interpreters, so if they sing this together and to each other, you can see them as lovers without any problem imho, because their song was about the problem of expressing love to each other, and the interpretation is open to everyone based on YOUR personal emotion, not only to their personal experiences. This is what I think ^_^
