Why did Sidharth Shukla have a heart attack?

  • As many of you have probably come to know, the whole of India is in mourning after one of its brightest TV and filmstars, Sidharth Shukla, died suddenly yesterday at the age of only 40 years.
Initial reports have suggested that Siddhartha died of a massive heart attack. Here was a wonderfully athletic, strong man who took exceptional care of his health and the whole of the world is shocked that someone that young and healthy could succumb to a heart attack out of the blue.
As we struggle to make sense of the chaos and emotional turmoil that Siddharth’s unfortunate death has left us in I thought I would share what I have learnt about heart attacks from my own experience as a practising cardiologist.
I wanted to dedicate this video to Sidharth Shukla and pray for those that have been left bereft by his untimely passing including his mother and sisters.
We believe that most heart attacks occur because of a build-up of plaque in the heart arteries. Those people who have absolutely no plaque in their heart arteries are generally fall in a very low risk category.
Why does plaque build up? Plaque builds up because of low grade chronic inflammation. I will try and explain inflammation to you.
Imagine if I take a sharp knife and run it across my arm. This insult will stimulate inflammation. My arm will become red, hot, painful, swollen and after a while as long as I have stopped insulting it with the knife it will heal. This is acute inflammation
Let's talk about something far worse which is chronic inflammation. Imagine me taking a toothbrush and scraping away at my skin daily for the next 10 years.. the insult is no where as acute as with a knife but because the insult is ongoing, the skin will never heal and in 10 years time the skin will have changed in appearance and behaviour and it will be hard and yet fragile at the same time. It will never be the same again. This is chronic inflammation.
Whilst a lot of people believe that heart disease is about cholesterol, blood pressure, diabetes etc, the reality is that these are surrogate markers and perhaps the big underlying villain is chronic inflammation.
Chronic inflammation can cause build up of plaque over a period of time which may then manifest with a progressive narrowing of the blood vessels and gradually reduce blood flow to the heart muscle. This will then lead to angina and if that angina is not addressed may lead to a heart attack. This is not as terrible situation because the patient gets a progressive warning and will go and seek help and then be found to have a narrowing which is then treated with a stent or a bypass. However inflammation can do something even worse. Some people may have a mild amount of plaque which is not causing a significant narrowing and therefore will not cause any symptoms and then one day out of the blue that plaque will break off and the body thinks there is a wound where it has broken off and within a matter of minutes a blood clot can form which then blocks off the blood vessel. These are the patients that have a sudden heart attack without a warning and this is the mechanism behind sudden deaths. It is estimated that 50% of heart attacks present in this manner. The more inflamed we are the more likely this is to happen and this is probably what happened in Siddharth’s case.

    1) first symptom denial
    2) Last symptom sudden death.

I have to wonder if a common culprit to the silent build up of inflammation, is stress.
Years ago, my dentist attended a dental conference in California.
A few weeks later during my next apointment I asked him how it went. He said he learned alot but was especially intrigued in what was revealed on the effects of stress. He told me the estimated % of people in this country who grind their teeth at night while sleeping (and don't even realise they do it). I cannot remember that %, but it was huge. He even discovered that he does it. That was truly surprising becuase I replied " Doc you strike me as one of the most calm people I have ever met". He said: " I truly feel that I am. My wife and kids would agree with you. But nonetheless like many people, I too grind my teeth. Something about today's society. It is so stressful just to exist in it. And we truly don't fully understand just how profound it's impact is on us".

I suppose at almost 80 the best thing to do is follow the advice herein..
I will write it all down and contemplate well on unburdoning my self of these habits
Then pray for the blessing of sincerely embracing each one!

It would be interesting to know if this young and healthy man, Sidharth, was vaccinated recently. The different amount of inflammation across the patients is not even recorded by the medical providers and we don't have data about the true side effects of the vaccines as this "side effect" is not even an " option" to be recorded. My uncle died after the first vaccine. My aunt almost died and barely survived. Both were very healthy and athletic. The vaccine was not even the " reason" for it. I did not want to pursue for truth, so that the family does not get more pain than already present with the shock. Loving relationships, sleep and meditation would probably be the top of the restoration we need for a healthy heart.

Great work Doctor. I am very sorry that Mr Shukla should die so unexpectedly and so young. One silver lining in the dark cloud of cancer, is that it gives you time to make peace with yourself and the world. An fatal heart attack aged 40, robs you of so much and seems especially cruel.

You are a great cardiologist and explain very well and simply. I live in southern California and go to a Dr. Patel who is the person that helped me when I went into Vfib while recovering from a neck surgery. I got some those collaterals that kept me alive. But mostly God said it wasn't time yet. The following year was stage four prostate state cancer. I am still here. God still isn't ready for me. I'll die when God says that it's timing not ours.

    • @alishashenoy

Very I presume but then again doctors go through gruelling residency to prepare them for sismilar events. Also, my cardiologist has asked me to do meditation to lower anxiety and blood pressure so I presume a lot of them do the same.

As the sibling of 2 Doctors, I can assure you that they try, but cannot always practice what they preach in terms of stress. I know my lot are active and enjoy exercise and getting out in nature and they love food, but try not to eat junk food. Unfortunately, medicine and surgery are very competitive as professions and involve long hours, frequent moves of jobs, lots of study outside of work and trying to be there for husband/wife and kids. Not easy.

I have a feeling it may have something to do with it, because so many people are having adverse reactions and health problems from it - event bough other have no problem and have benefited from being vaccinated- at least for the duration of the vaccines immunity

I think your question is legitimate, considering the times we are in. Data does support that the V can cause inflammation in the body's cardiovascular system, especially in young men. It's also important to question this elephant-in-the-room because we are still in the experimental phase of this new type of V. We are still discovering the side effects, so it's important to note them to truly know what the risks are.

There's speculation that Sidharth's heart attack may have been triggered by his body-building workout regime which may have included over-use of anabolic steroids. This makes one question what has become the "norm" in terms of male action-hero movie stars (starting with Schwarzanegger 40 years ago). This look is just expected and required now...and stars work hard to extend this into middle age. And sometimes they take some chemical assistance to prepare for a lucrative role. It's crazy...and should change.

Since then I had 2 other cases of pericarditis. Much milder or maybe I knew what was going on and coped better. We all know to eat healthy and exercise and everything in moderation but it always seems to take a trauma for us to kick-start that healthy kick. It's not easy but it's beyond beneficial. Stay safe and look after yourself and each other 💪
