i would like to thank the people who recommended Red Queen to me from the 'you marry the villain to save your kingdom' video. tho i have only read the first book (so pls do not give me spoilers), i am absolutely, without question, in love with Maven.

You have a huge pearly white castle in which only you live in, surrounded by riches, glamour, and all you could have ever dreamed of. Fateful servants would do anything to serve you, and you live the best and most carefree seeming life ever. But, you can't stop thinking of them.
This wasn't your castle, this wasn't your kingdom, these weren't your clothes. This all belonged to your lover, the one you sat up awake for countless nights daydreaming of, one who you said you would do anything and everything for. And yet you are here, on their throne, wearing their clothes, living their life... why? Why did you ever think that royalty and luxury could ever surpass what you have felt for them?
But now, it is too late. They lay dead in a valley far from here and all you have are the memories of which you made together, but even those are drowned out by the malicious thoughts of what you have done, and what you have done will continue to haunt you for the rest of eternity.

You got up from your all-so-prestigious gold-linen chair. Your red gown softly ambraces your flawless body. It was one of your favorites dresses. You had it made only a few days after you took the throne.
After you betrayed him.
You slowly walked towards the bedroom's window, your heels clacking on the cold hard-stone paved floor. You looked at the horizon opening itself above the peaceful and thriving capital city. And it was yours now. Your kingdom. All yours. You, the queen.
You remembered that night full-well even though it was over twelve years ago. The royal family wanted you to marry their son. He was your age, decent-looking and mannered. But he was naive. Painfully naive and idealistic. It was somehow charming, it almost made you feel bad when you had the guards arrest him. But you didn't lie to yourself; you liked it, and you were tired of pretending you didn't.
He should have seen how your eyes craved more. More power, more control, more fame, more wealth, more of everything. He was in your way of the more, and so was his family. Years of careful planning, manipulation and political games had finally paid off.
You had planned a grandiose public execution of him and his family, but you didn't knew that this prince had so much fire in him. He struggled, broke away from the guard's grasp and began to run like a devil. You shouted to have him stopped but the guards weren't fast enough. When he managed to break through a window and run outside of the castle, you shouted for archers, and they landed a few shots.
But it was not enough. He kept desperately running, even when he was drenched in blood. When you and the archers lost sight of him, he was heading inside a raging blizzard, towards the remote grey moutains and its volcano. You were surprised by his resilience, but you knew no one could survive this. You didn't even bother sending soldiers to retrieve the corpse.
He was the fallen prince of the disgraced royal family of a corrupt kingdom. Through more of your clever political intrigues and manipulations, you secured yourself the good role and had the rest of the family publicly executed just as planned anyway.
Twelve years had passed from this morbid memory that you despised and cherished in equal measures.
But for the first time in twelve years, you felt an awfully cold chill crawl up your spine. The rumors were true. Originally spoken only by sewer-dwelling maniacs, it became known by the common people as well and eventually reached your ears; the forsaken disgraced prince had survived against all odds and crawled to the old volcano. There, he stumbled upon a reclusive demon of war and blood, a herald of ancient barbaric times. A demon of fire and death to which the fallen prince begged for help.
And deal was struck. The prince would offer his soul, and the demon would grant him his revenge.
Overconfident, drowing in your own arrogance, you dismissed these rumors with ridicule and mockery.
But now you knew.
As you slowly realised that the snow outside was actually ash, and that the rising sun was actually a sea of fire, steel and horns. A sea that was getting closer.
You had risen a intricate structure of political influence accross several kingdoms. He had risen an army. An endless horde of red-skinned, horned and imposing bloodthirsty monsters. No armors, no strategy, only crude weapons coated in fire, and pure unbridled savagery.
Your discarded and betrayed would-be lover was standing above the rest of the red-skinned demons. Bigger and badder. His eyes gleaming with a more intelligent form of anger.
No more games, no more intrigues, no more clever plots and subtle manipulations. Panic errupted in the city as the demonic forces of war were only minutes away from breaching in the capital.
Soon enough, causes and consequences will have their dreadful reunion.

"everything comes to an end, doesn't it?" he asks, grinning. "i didn't expect you to be the reason of mine, though."
"i guess you really shouldn't have underestimated me, prince," i smile, pressing the cold steel of the dagger a little harder against his throat.
he swallows nervously, and i watch as a drop of blood appears on his skin and quickly runs down, hiding behind the collar of his shirt.
"you know i've never underestimated you, love. i've always known what you can do for power, we're very much alike in that. i only hoped that you would agree to share the throne with me. we'd be amazing king and queen, don't you think so?"
i look at him carefully, and i can't help but think that even now, on the verge of death, he is beautiful.
"i don't think it's my way to share."
he bursts out laughing, sincere and pure.
"you're amazing."
our eyes meet, and i don't look away, trying to memorize every feature of his face and the blue of his eyes. i remember all our meetings in the library, walks in the garden, innocent kisses, and today's dance, and I realize with horror that i really do love him, and the voice in my head whispers louder and louder, saying that perhaps we still have a chance to fix everything. do we? and another one gives an immediate answer. we don't. and i understand that nothing can change. i made my choice long ago, and i have no right to give up when i'm so close to the goal. i can't allow all the sacrifices to be in vain.
unbidden tears fill my eyes, and now i can barely see the prince, who has not taken his eyes off my face all this time. our faces are only inches apart, and on a sudden impulse, i lean forward and kiss him. and at this moment, it seems to me that everything is fine and there is nothing to worry about, and there are no boundaries, no responsibilities, only his lips. just him. i pull away when i can't get enough air, and look up at him.
"it would be an honor to die by your hand, emily. don't torment. i know how long you've been going for this, and i know it couldn't have been any other way. i always did. i knew it from the very first day, and i still couldn't resist you. i love you."
he gently takes my hand with the dagger in his and presses harder. as soon as i see the red stripe on his neck i can't hold back my sobs.
"i'm so sorry, dorian," i whisper, and close my eyes tightly.
it's over now.
i'm the queen.

POV:
I step onto the marbled floor, the swirls reminding me of blood that will stain the grounds when i reign. The gemstones on my crimson heels drip with shine as my black, lace ballgown glides across behind them, the dagger hidden beneath it hiding a secret worthy of death. The ruby mask that veils my eyes is the perfect distraction, hiding me as a damsel meaning no harm. Everyone glides across the floor in their gowns and their suits, all worth a fortune, all unbeknownst of their fate.
As i am about to take another step a man blocks my path. The prince. The prince whose blood runs with the enemy. The prince who i must take down. My crimson lips curl into a smile as he approaches, his emerald green eyes seem to reflect devilish lust. He extends his glove clad arm, bowing, and utters "Care to dance with me, M'lady? I know not what your motives are, though your beauty is enthralling." He knows my motives. He knows i am here to destroy his kingdom. Except my face is masked, he doesn't recognize. Tonight is all a game, a game of lies and deception. I take his hand, my eyes meeting his, a sheer moment of ecstasy between two young rivals.
As soon as he places his arm on my waist, he knows. He feels the dagger, he feels it's engravings. I smirk as i remove my mask. His lips curl into a frown, as he cannot do me harm amidst the ball in the honour of his father. "The show must go on, your majesty." I whisper in his ear, dangerously close.
We begin to glide across the floor, melodically to the music, a dance of hatred, a dance of death. We both know what i am here for, we both know what's to happen at the end of the evening. As the waltz rolls to a stop, everyone starts to leave the hall.
I meet his eyes again. I expect to see utter detestation, utter hatred, but what i see shocks me. His eyes well with tears, they seem to lose their shine. "I loved you, i fell in love with you. Why must you do this?" He whispers. "My kingdom comes first. Love is nothing but lies." I snap as i turn away, my gown spinning gracefully.
But he grabs my wrist, pulling me back, pulling me into him, closer than ever before. And he presses his lips to mine. Tears seem to come to my eyes as my affection towards him comes up to the surface. But i can't fall in. I can't let go. I can't give in. I slowly reach to the back of my dress as i pull away, tears streaming down my cheeks, his eyes burning into mine.
I snatch the dagger out of my dress, pressing it to his neck, two lovers standing amidst an empty ballroom, with only the moonlight for company, the moonlight illuminating the crime against our hearts. "My kingdom comes first, my love. I shall reign, reign with pride. Farewell." I plunge the dagger deeper, blood dripping onto the floor.
I drop the knife, my now crimson-stained ballgown the only reminder of the man i once loved, of the slaying of honour, as i walk away, my heels clicking along the floor, announcing my reign, till forevermore.

I hated Maven the whole series until I read the last book. I cried for him. I wish there were more povs of Maven. In this series Maven and Evangeline were the best characters, they are so memorable.

It’s not like anyone is going to see it except me. So this kiss didn't mean anything. The hugs, the holding hands, the listening... It couldn't mean anything, even though I wanted it to. I wanted it so bad. I wanted for him to love me, to hold me, to stay with me because he wanted to. I fell in love with a boy without a heart, the heart that I ripped out of his chest and is now resting inside that beautiful wooden box. I pulled away with a tear rolling silently down my face. The box was still there, still beautiful. However now, all those golden details felt inappropriate, like they were mocking me. they were saying. I opened the box and my heart fell in my chest. His heart wasn't there. Or it was, but not in the way I wanted it to be. The bright red heart I had tucked in the blue velvet of the box, was now grey and dry. I knew this could happen, in the beginning I even hoped for it. A heart can't survive without someone to take care of it. I came here many times to see it, but just to make sure it was still here. It was my most precious possession, the ultimate symbol of my victory. A trophy, just like the palace. I had won. I had the heart of the prince. And every time I saw it all red I became angrier, my own trophy was mocking me. That little heart without a body was perfect, while mine was mended so many times it almost didn't seem like a heart. So I wanted his to be destroyed. I wanted to watch him while his life was taken out of him, little by little. And I was going to enjoy it. And as I watched it closely, it turned into a pile of ash before my eyes. There was nothing I could do. No magic was powerful enough to remake a heart. I just wasn't possible. Said that annoying voice. All those years ago, that voice gave me security, control, power, and even a crown. Now it was only a reminder of all I didn't have. I replied. I didn't know what to do, so I just cried.

the song by grandson took me by surprise. it gave me flashbacks of my previous severe mental health problems. i listened to it (this song specifically) so much during that time.

I smiled up at him, eyes narrowed lazily as his hands trailed up my thighs, higher, higher.
The arrogant desire in his eyes was, undoubtedly, disgusting.
You have a kingdom, a crown, a beautiful woman to whom you'd soon rule beside - and yet you still crave more, don't you? After all, everything anyone could want has always been handed to you on a silver plate. Becoming a King is the last goal - once there, what else could you want? How much higher could you climb?
My smile grew as my hands began wandering across his covered chest, and I pushed him back onto it.
I leaned in close, and heard him gasp a split second before my lips could meet his.
"Arrogant bastard."
I pulled the knife from his chest, now dripping with his blood, and tilted my head as I studied him silently. He had died so... Quickly.
Striding over to the window, I nodded to the man standing below.
My husband grinned up at me, and nodded back.
Now that bastard was dead, we would take the throne. After all, the Prince had no family, no heirs... The next person to ascend would be the man who had trained alongside him, the man closest to royalty without being born into it, the Prince's confidante, his friend, his advisor, my husband.
It must hurt to be betrayed by your lover and best friend. At least his death was quick. I do feel bad for his fiancée though.
"It doesn't have to be this way. We could change it all, make everything better," He pleaded, my sword to his throat.
"Sorry love, it has to be this way. I could never be Queen without first getting a husband. But if he were to die, I'd live free of every chain and rule without any man telling me what to do." My eyes softened, sadness dashing my triumph. "I truly am sorry it was you. You deserved to live to an old ripe age, with a woman who truly loved you. I am sorry I couldn't provide that."
He smiled sadly and leaved forward, the movement making my sword dig in further. "Don't be sorry, Cora. I don't regret loving you, or falling for it. I don't regret that because of my heart, I'm dying by 20. I love you and will love you even into the afterlife. Just make it quick."
A tear ran down my cheek. A tear for the boy I could have come to love, a boy lost to a prejudiced world. "Good bye, Adrian." I slit his neck and stared at him, ever smiling even as the light left his eyes.
I wiped the single tear.
I was a monster, but not one with out a reason.
And I was going to rock the world that demanded that Adrian die.

You walk down the hall, ready to marry the prince, a tiny bottle up your sleeve, however this wasn't for the prince, it was for a different man. To be exact, a different love. You enter the ballroom, wearing your beautiful dress, thinking of the darkness you are about to put into the world. Walking down the isle you cant help but question if this was right.

"Hey honey!" you say walking into the house of the love you were about to betray.
"Hey" he replies.
"I'll get us some wine" you say going to the kitchen.
You pour one glass for you, the other for him. You slip the entire bottle of the poison into his glass and making sure you remembered his glass was in your left hand, you return to him and hand him the poisoned wine.
You take a sip of yours, as to assure him it was safe. Then he takes a sip and falls to the floor.
"Y/n?" he says weakly.
"I guess i wanted royalty more hun." you say smugly, dropping your glass to the floor, allowing it to join his, shattered on the floor and leave him to die....
"They say the world is ruled by love but really its ruled by those that have a crown on their heads." She whispers to the darken room to the person laying on the floor.
"Why have you changed so much?" He tried to snarl at her. She turned to him her hands clasped Infront of her swollen belly. She took a step towards him and tried to move but the chains wouldn't allow him.
"You are to be thankful for this my love, you left me all alone with a cutthroat court that wanted me dead. Also unwed at that so I was forced to marry someone whom I could never love or so I thought." She smiled at him, but it was full of darkness and anger towards him. "But I've come to realize what I felt for you was lust and not love. Sadly, now you must pay for your folly in leading your Queen on. Tomorrow, you die." She said more to him, and he watched as the woman he loves become the monster he feared now.
"I was your light! If there is still some part of the woman, I love in there she wouldn't allow me to die. She would fight to keep me alive." He pleaded with the Queen.
"You want that weak girl back? The one whom could not even lift a finger for herself? No, she is gone dead by the man she supposedly loved and will never live again. " She smiled even more if that was a thing and walked into his space. "But know that before your death you will suffer for hurting her but also know that in the end this crown wasn't what I wanted but it was our supposed love." She turned away from him and walked out with her head held high, but a tear drop fell from her eye that he couldn't see.
"I still love you! I hope you have a happy and full life with your crown and him." He said to her and watched as she turned to the side and looked at him. "And I hope you say hello to the devil and tell him to save a spot for me." She said right back before she left through the doorway and left him to his fate.
"I'll try to be your light in death if I can't be in life." He whispered to himself which no one heard as the guards came into the room to start the suffering and pain.
With the Queen as she walked away from that room and heard his cries she smiled. She turned to a window and rubbed her belly. She felt two arms wrap around her and she leaned into him as they looked out into the night.
"The last piece of my light is gone my love, I'm now fully yours." She whispered to him as she felt his hand on their child within her belly. He nuzzled into her neck.
"Good, now we have nothing standing in our way of what we both want." He whispered as he felt her lean him to him and his wife's belly full with their child.
For what shall come is for what shall go

I'm thinking of writing an Amphibia high fantasy au with Leif and andrias as the betrayed (andrias ) and the reluctant traitor. (Leif is his girlfriend/posible fiance) they both both be backstabbing each other. Leif is like the Mercedes to andrias's edmond Dantes. (THE main ship of the book count of monte cristo)because just like Mercedes ,Leif didn't intend to hurt him but she ends up doing something that caused her to bee seen as a traitor.
Interesting how power can make loose conscious and morals over people who get it.
And I eventually -totally- take advantage of this.
