Kailash Kher is known for his melodious and meaningful songs and 'Teri Deewani' is probably one of his best works! As good as this song is, it's the video that makes it truly a masterpiece. Please allow me try to break it down for you guys.
The video is a beautiful amalgam of 5 different stories blended into a 5 minute video.
🔹1st story: Incomplete Love
This girl in white salwar, is seen standing in the Golconda fort, a place where she meets her lover, (who is seen leaving her, white shirt guy sitting in bus).
She later commits suicide, pay attention to the line in the song when she is seen jumping from the top. "Haste haste aashiq suli chad jayein."🎼
🔹2nd Story: Complete Love
There is another couple that always meet up and are seen smiling till the very end, this completely contrasts with the 1st story.
This ends with "Kahin Ishq Di marzi hai, kahin Rab Di Marzi hai" 🎼
🔹3rd Story: Acceptance
In this case the girl is seen in a truck, leaving her boyfriend who is running behind it to stop her. He tries very hard but eventually he gets tired and gives up; He finally stops and let her go. They both are seen to be in harmony with this as you can notice from the smile in both of their faces.
🔹4th Story: Love at first sight
By the getup and looks, the guy wasn't her lover, he was maybe contracted to kill her. Notice the way he tries to block her.
Now, look at her reaction and facial expression when he draws her close and just observe his change in expression in the next few moments; she looks into his eyes and there certainly is a connection; He instantly falls in love with her and lets her go.
However, she doesn't really know yet that he is hired to kill her and when she sees the knife in his hand she starts running away; They were strangers, not lovers, but it took only a moment to fall in love.
Alternatively, It can be that the guy knew the girl and was in a one sided love? Notice the lines at 1:23 - "Tune kya kar dala mar gayi mein, mit gayi mein". He maybe is there to take revenge but lets her go nonetheless? The placement of the lyrics messes it up for me to conclude.
🔹5th Story: Passionate Love/Teri Deewani
This is how the title of the video was formed. "Tune kya kar dala, mar gayi mein, mit gayi mein. Teri Deewani, Teri Deewani 🎼 She has turned mad in love (Deewani) and dances every night for her lover after the sunset under the lights of firecrackers.

This is a very subtle song and it can send a different message to different people. I will elaborate what I felt in this song:
There are 5 love stories depicted in this song and each one is of different nature and ends in a different way.
1st story
This girl in white, she is standing on the hill where she always used to meet her boyfriend, who is seen leaving her (white shirt guy sitting in bus).
She later commits suicide, listen to the line in the song when she throws herself down with her arms open & a smile on her face..

2nd story
There is this couple that actually meets and is seen smiling till the end, looks like this is the story of.. and they lived happily ever after.
3rd story
In this case the girl is seen leaving her boyfriend in a tempo, the boyfriend is running behind her to stop her.. she finally leaves him, he gets tired, stops and lets her go, she is seen satisfied by that, look at her smile in the end.
4th story..
This is what makes this song special. The guy with knife wasn't her lover, he was contracted to kill her, look the way he's standing on her regular way and waiting for her.

Most special part for me - the girl dancing on the fort. She had turned mad in love and dances every night for him after the sunset in the orange-blue sky under the lights of firecrackers on a fort. This is the most beautiful part of the song for me. Touching. Lovely. Crazy. Passionate.
Apart from love stories, you can see that they have also tried to depict the love towards our religious faiths and gods. In the video you can see they have shown 3 religious guys looking towards their respective places of worship - A Hindu, a Muslim and later a Buddhist monk is shown looking towards the statue of Buddha.
One common thing - all these story lines show intense love and faith.
As I said it's a subtle song and it is left to the audience to draw their own messages out of it. Some people have not liked the video as they didn't understand it, but that girl dancing in the orange-blue sky in the light of firecrackers looks surreal! I was mesmerised by that part alone! It's heavenly

One of the best songs i have ever heard. Evergreen song. Kailash kher performed in Dhaka in 2009. I was lucky enough to enjoy the event and took his interview (back then, i was a reporter). I took the interview the day before the concert day. Honestly speaking, till then, i did not listen anyone of his songs. Then, the next day, i listened these songs just 10 feet away and became an all-time fan of Kailash Kher.
