Berlin, David indeed was a king later on, but when he wrote some of the Psalms he was being persecuted by King Saul who was jealous of David because he knew David was divinely chosen by God to be the next king. So some of them are dark, but they’re actually worshipful prayers to God for deliverance from his enemies as he was on the run from the king who was trying to kill him.
