I've gotten bullied and harassed for years at my school for being a furry and part of the LGBTQ+. It's highschool now and I'm alone everyday. It's gotten to where I will just wear what I want. Everyone knows and everyone hates it. So I just wear anything I have a hoodie with my boy on it and my face mask has my boi on it too. I get screamed at and get told I am disgusting. But I still keep trucking. So if you're having a hard time too just know you're not alone in it. When you feel like no one wants you or loves you guess what some random stranger me does and I love you.

My whole school knows I am. The important part to me is to not be the kind of person who tries to inject the fact that you are a furry into every conversation. Wear what clothes you want, like what you wanna like. If someone asks me if I’m a furry I go “Yeah” then continue with what I was doing. If they react negatively, I just don’t associate. And that’s how not being a closeted furry should be.
One of my friends had caught me playing a furry game and then he joined my game and then quot says "the amazing thing of being your self is you don't care what others say something bad about you." I was caught off guard by that. Then we started to talk more and more because we found each others interests and we were both closet furry's.

I have a friend who is a furry and he is so out with it, and will tell everyone about it, and I see how negatively people react to him, and that's why I don't talk much about the fandom. I'm not active enough in the furry fandom for it to be that big of a deal anyways.

My dad doesn't approve of furries (pretty much when I showed him my fursona for the first time, I just told him that it was a commission art even though no one has asked me to commission art for them and told him I watched a documentary on furries. He pretty much responded with "I'll accept you for anything else but being a furry".) But I'm a furry, so this helped me to keep it pretty down- low and not have my dad question me!

None of my friends know I am a furry. I plan to make my fursuit in the coming months, and either this year or next year, I will invite them to go to our University's Halloween event and show up in the suit, completely unprompted. I am excited to see and record their reactions.

I think as long as it looks cool, it's already "low key." If you can get someone to say "hey that looks sick" it doesn't really matter if it's furry, Anime, pokemon, whatever. If it looks nice, people won't diss on it.
And not saying some of the vibrant colored furry merch with various sonas plastered all over it don't look okay, it isn't something people outside of the Fandom would really be interested in. But even something as clearly furry as Wingedwolf's Acid/Cadaver/Ultraviolet tees can still look nice and not attract negative attention.
I have been a furry since I was like 12, and I was pretty vocal about it then, but my parents were super close minded about it because they swear by that cursed CSI episode. (Also, my little brother was extremely obnoxious about it.)
I convinced them that it was a passed phase and have secretly been a furry. I am 18 now. I treat any furry related thing as porn, in the sense of I DO NOT WANT THEM TO KNOW I AM WATCHING IT.
I am still getting by while still not letting anyone I know find out.
Here are a couple of things you can do.
#1: Art.
When my parents aren't around I like to draw furry art, and make sure I can quickly minimize the window if they walk in. Simple, but effective.
#2: VRchat.
This one is more tricky to pull off, mostly because if you openly discuss the fandom out loud your parents might hear it, but I like having a furry avatar when in game. If you are playing the game on Quest, you don't have to worry about your parents seeing anything. If you are on PCVR, you can still get away with it as long as you have your monitor turned off.
This is simply the way I gotta live until I move out. I could also secretly attend meet ups, but due to Covid that isn't much of an option right now, and won't be for at least 6 more months.

I honestly think you can get away with BD merch in public. It's a simple enough logo, it makes it harder for people to call you out on it in public, and if push comes to shove you can potentially play it off as a meme/joke.

I wore a tail in highschool, 3 times people tried to pull on it, some people said things just out of earshot, but most people were just interested, asked if they could pet it even, it was really soft.
Even made the day of some little girl who likes ro wear ears one day when i wore my tail to a store.
Whenever someone says some shit, or asks about it, i just say its an accessory like wearing bracelets or earnings.
I even had a school project where i decided to make it about my fusuit making, brought in the first one i ever made, turned out most the class was absent because it was senior skip day......so of the 3 people in the room they seemed cool about it, lol.
im not sure how people would act now, haven't worn it out in a while, but it seems im in an area where flurries arent too well known.
I mean, i wore a fursuit while passing out candy one halloween, and no one even asked or said anything about furries, just asked if I made it then got startled when i talked and the jaw moved. I even wore my old suit to hash bash (420 event, legal where i live) and all i got were overly excited stoners asking tons of questions and giving me free shit for being a tiger.
The only place ive really experienced harassment for being a furry/showing that im a furry, is online. like, ill be commenting on how cool some new fossil discovery is and someones gotta say some shit about my icon like me being a furry means my input is invalid or some shit.
But thats just me, im sure there are some people that live in areas where they could be seriously harassed or attacked for showing that they are a furry too loudly.

I actually found this quite useful, I’m stuck in the predicament of being furry but also being in a Army ROTC so you can guess what the general reaction would be if one of my fellows found out, but the clothing idea never crossed my mind and it’s also perfect! When I was in high school, being a brony or a furry were considered to be on the same level. I was just beginning my artistic journey in the brony community, and eventually there came a moment when I had to “come out” to my family about that… and a few years afterward, I had to come out again, but this time as being bi. (Both were not fun) I also came to a point in my life when I was in school that I no longer cared what other people thought, and I literally went to school wearing a pony shirt, totally awkward at first, but then it got easier as time went on… can’t say that about the whole bi thing since that’s mostly under wraps from most people, but I’ve accepted that as who I am. Secrecy is sometimes necessary, and not everyone needs to know what you’re into or anything else, but it’s nice when you have good friends or even family that you know you can trust and have your back to talk to, because secrets can be hard to keep, and having the ability to talk to someone openly about it who won’t judge you is a great feeling, and for myself personally has helped me gain more confidence. ^^

I am a bear fur, and I have a couple of shirts that have stylized bear designs on then and I wear a Dragon necklace and a gator ring. That's how I subtlety tell the world I am a furry. I also have a Tee Turtle shirt that has a bear on it reading a book of puns which, again shows my bear furry pride and my affinity for puns and blend with every other weirdo out there :3

I'd look out for the warning signs concerning the matter with your lovers guys, someone yawning in front of your girl could lead to her getting taken advantage of.
