I got to play (trumpet) with Tito for a guest appearance at my college in the early 90’s. He was just a class act and had stories to tell that I got to share with my kids and hopefully my grandkids someday. Maynard Ferguson was our other guest that we played with that year and had some other great stories about Tito that to this day make me just bust up laughing. The body may leave this earth but true legends never die!
He loves doing it because the cover santana made gives him more money in royalties then all his songs combined but the original Oye Como Va is better than santana's

Tito was always awesome. That whistling solo was incredible. I had to come back to the monitor to see that there was no piccolo in his mime hands. Great version of a classic song!
Had the pleasure of seeing this wonderful man perform at an outdoor show in Trenton, NJ in 1998, great show! Just before playing Oye Como Va he mentioned that he was never much of a fan of Carlos Santana's version of his song, until the royalty checks started coming in!
I was blessed to catch Tito's show in person when he brought it to a club at 77 th Street and Broadway in NYC, back in the 60's. Didn't appreciate what I was seeing then as much as now.
Robert Bonter Thanks for sharing, that's such great perspective. I can't imagine the things I have and will see that I won't fully appreciate until later in life.

I own a very old conga Tito use to beat on with his Sticks. It has a small hole in the pigskin where Tito found his sweet spot with a piece of scotch tape over it placed by him. There is basically nothing on the market as far as memorabilia and I plan on keeping it that way as my word of honor to the close friend of Tito who gifted it to me.
UFF TREMENDA COMBINACIÓN... UN TITO PUENTE MUY JENIOSO EN EL TIMBAL... Y ESE CANTANTE DOMINICANO, JOSE ALBERTO EL CANARIO SI QUÉ FORMARON LA BUENA RUMBAAA 😎👍
Grateful to the Central and South American people for the most entertaining and humanely feeling music that exists. Music brings people together and is perhaps the only way to stop the impending war.
Remembering a legend on this 16th year of his passing. I remember Tito passing through the neighborhood at times when I was a young man in the early 60s. The days when legends of Jazz hung out on the streets of NYC saying hello to old friends from the big band era and beyond. Time waits sure does fly.
Je ne connaissais pas cette chanson de 1956. No conosco este cansion de los anos 1956 pero yo la descubria con Emmet y Santana. Muy bueno el rytmo. This song is excellent. Es un placer de la escuchar. The fun !
Que gran artista el Sr Puente con ese ritmo que te alegra el corazón y te contagia con su alegría y su orquesta tan maravillosa gracias por subir ese vídeo al menos un rato para olvidar esta pandemia
Was very privileged to see the late great Tito Puente, in Adelaide SA at the Thebyy Theatre I was so glad sat second Row from the front, he wore a light blue suite frilled shirt, great performance.
I had the pleasure to see him at Music Fest 1995 in Bethlehem,Pa he was Awesome.❤❤❤ To believe I never heard of him. What a Diamond he was. The whistler on he wow amazing. How did hold that note so long 👍🏾👍🏾

Hope you are still playing the trumpet
Wow
Love how happy he looks playing the drums, I hope everyone can find something that makes them as happy as the drums made Tito Puente happy.

THAT WAS AWESOME, I HAD TO LOOK REALLY HARD. WHAT TALENT.
I could of sworn he had a flute!
That's Jose Alberto "El Canario"...The Canary because of his whistle...legend. A great dancer too.
That's why his Nickname is el "canario" (a bird name in spanish) because he can whistle Like a bird

Since I’m learning Spanish I’ve been listening to a lot of Latin music. Heard of Tito Puente but never heard him play and I love it. Love Latin music.
No ”latin music” is cuban music, música cubana: son, mambo, guajira, montuno, etc.
