Thank you from a 60 year old novice in England, only been playing for 6 months this is the first song I've been able to complete. You make it so simple to follow without rasing your voice getting excited a going of and doing silly rifts again thank you

You have great taste in music. These are the songs of my youth, and you are showing me how to play them in my old age. Also you have a great collection of guitars. Thanks Allison for showing a silly old fool how to play these great songs.

You are the only person so far who mentions the open high E string being played during the B string riff. Thank you - Great Job!! Also thanks for noticing that part was for sure multi-tracked, everyone notices the effects, have not heard anyone mention that.

Thank you! I love this song. I am lucky enough to have a Line 6 Variax 700. This lets me digitally tune the G to E for the intro riff and switch back to standard tuning for the verse. Great for Goo Goo Dolls too as I can digitally tune all strings to D without wrecking my neck. 😎🎸.

I'm gonna more or less repeat martynepayne4618, thanks from a 65 year old novice, I have basically messed about in music production cubase blah blah, for a while but never really learnt any instrument but have keyboards, clavi's guitars just never really dedicated myself enough until now errr well I am sort of trying, but you have kind of caught my eye with your slower approach, most other's are basically showing off their talents, so a big thankyou

Hi Alison - I believe the main descending riff was actually played on a Fender Bass VI which is essentially a 30" scale guitar tuned an octave lower. Smith plays through chorus and compression and possibly a bit of delay as well. Using the neck pickup with some effects and the tone rolled off a bit on a normal guitar (as you have) will get a close approximation as the notes themselves are the same. They are rather pricey but Fender released a very good Squier reissue of the Bass VI for a pretty good price and has sold very well... there's a ton of Cure fans who want that sound! Anyway, thanks for your hard work you explain things very well.

I am fairly new to guitar and even more new to You Tube, but I have noticed that you do something others do not seem to do. You have a consistency in your lessons, which makes so much sense. You play through just so we can listen to proper song portion being explained and then you go through, slowly, the chords and strum pattern and then work through it, playing again so we can play along. It is so logical and a great way to learn. Thank you. I have to end with a stupid question... tabs...where is the best source of tabs for the songs you teach? I don't want to get greedy, you do so much as it is and the best part is you seem to focus on all of my favorites (Smiths, Cure, etc.) songs from my youth. Thanks, again! -- Craig
