- we all know about the Black and Tan standard German shepherd. but only recently I know there is a white German shepherd. so I wanted to learn about it and made this video to share what I have learned with others.

My GSD is one of the best dogs I've ever owned, he's never aggressive towards other dogs or people, he won't even bark if a dog, or a person passes by, but of course it took alot of training, and socializing for that to happen
Finally someone who knows their temperament is different!

Thank you for spending so much time on their temperament. Much damage can be done to them so easily. We had several who never showed a sign of aggression until needed. Then they responded as necessary. Surprised us!

The majority of modern WGSDs got the aggressiveness bred out of them. Back in the early 90s you could find working line quality WGSDs. My WGSD is a working dog. If anyone tries to carjack me, attack me or enter my house...I’ll have a Red German Shepherd instead of a White German Shepherd.

@@amopastorcanadense The vast majority 90-95% of dogs have to learn to be truly aggressive towards humans. They will bark and growl but the moment you put “forward pressure” they back away. WGSDs have been bred to be just friendly pets for the past 30 years. If you want to know if your dog really has what it takes to defend you take it to someone who does “bite work” and let them test your dog.

@@amopastorcanadense I can take mine to the downtown area and walk around without issues. You can walk right pass him and he doesn’t care. He doesn’t like for people to make direct and extended eye contact (eyeballing) and weird or sudden moves.
@@amopastorcanadense I can have my dog “watch”, guard and bite a specific target then I can call him off and send him to say hi. Looks odd but he’s done it during training.

I own a white German Shepherd and this video can be very misleading. Although they have done an excellent job training and socializing this dog take it from someone who knows, this didn't happen overnight. I got my white German Shepherd free online because I was looking for a companion for my other dog who was breaking out of the yard and running away while I was at work. I thought he would be happier with a friend. The fact that this dog was free should have been my first clue. They did get along well (the shepherd is female) but she was worse than my original dog ever thought about being. The only thing she DIDN'T do was run away! She chewed up my couch, half my clothes, 5 public library books (4 hardback) that I had to replace with brand new books and she broke out of a locked crate twice while I was at work( it was plenty big) when I tried to crate train her. She has dug the back yard full of holes, chewed up her bed and my other dog's, and chewed thru 2 harnesses WHILE SHE WAS WEARING THEM! The last straw was when I locked them outside (it wasn't too hot or cold and they had water) while I ran to the store and she broke back INTO my backdoor. I honestly thought I was going to have to give her up because I wasn't home during the day to watch or exercise her although I frequently took the dogs to a farm where they run. I started researching the breed and realized I wasn't taking her temperament into consideration. She is extremely intelligent and high strung and picks up on any stress I have toward her and it makes the problem worse. Realizing I had to relax around her greatly improved the situation but I think the real reason she has improved is because I have a worsening genetic condition and I am no longer able to work so I am with her constantly. I lost my other dog, unfortunately, due to age and illness but my Shepherd has become my best friend and constant companion. She seems to sense that I am not well and she watches me and sometimes wakes me when I sleep. She also won't let anyone near me if I am sleeping. She doesn't misbehave (much) anymore but not everyone has the luxury of spending all day with their dog or have the time to properly train such a highly intelligent, active breed. The rewards of are there but this dog isn't for everyone.

F P he was about $1,000 but his price was lowered due to being the last from the litter. I think they were all originally $1,600 ish.

I have an amazing white GSD and I love him, but I wish someone told me about the constant heavy shedding before I got him.
Can almost hear you over the "music". I remember back in the day, they destroyed white ones, because they were considered inferior. We've always had them, and they were the best, smartest family, guard, and companion dog. There's just something special about the white ones. I worked at the Humane Society when Pixar came out with Bolt, and every stupid parent got a white GSD for their stupid little kid, then 5 or 6 months later, they were giving them to us because "they just couldn't handle them." Of course, you have to be a little bit smarter than the dog to train it correctly.
Funny thing is, once trained right, they're super focused. My dog is on point with her commands, I can leave the door wide open and she won't walk out until I give her the signal. I can leave frosh hot roasted chicken and rice on the coffee table right in front of her and she won't touch. She's super awesome, but I went thru a pain!
I remember coming home from work one day, it was night time around 12am. I guess my brothers had left a dish with food on the table, so when I get home and turn on the kitchen lights I see something on top of the table. I yell "wtf!?" When she turns around and I see it's my white German Shephard on top if my dining room table eating food! I was cracking up but had to discipline her. They're honestly super funny dogs!

Got mine for $300...thankfully I had my dad there to bargain for me. I also learned that my dog’s dad was $7,000...so...there’s some varying ranges for those who are looking into buying a white GSD. She’s a mix between your traditional black and brown GDS and a white GSD...she’s definitely not mellow AT ALL so idk where she got her burst of energy from. Probably from her mommy😂

How are they with other strange dogs they might meet on hikes?
This video shows many dogs with straight backs. On average how are their hip problems compared with the American show line GSDs. Are they generally bred with the healthier looking old fashioned straight back of the working lines or the angled or banana look in show lines.?
White ones are better than german when we talking about hip problems, their genetics are better cuz they were not used as stupid show dogs with low back...

Good question. The Berger Blanc Suisse sells for 2-3 times a reputable WGS does, and has a black nose. My 13yrold WGS has a pink nose for example, the 1yrold WGS of mine has a charcoal colored nose, both females. The Swiss is not as prey driven and toned down a notch in demeanor. They are both Shepherds and will take over when they feel you've lost control of a situation, this is when the Lassie moments you'll remember forever happen. The male I had was a fighter, throw himself in front of a bear for you, without thinking twice. Female's defense is her speed in getting away from an attacking animal, although much depends on how the line was bred. A dog sire with a line of championships is a far safer bet to get a pup from, it's been kept up on its shots, hips xrayed, etc. There are bad breeders out there, take nothing for granted.

This information is COMPLETELY Inaccurate relative to WGS, BBS, and standard GS. I have or have had all 3 types for over 40 years, titled many of them. Please STOP misleading people !

@@danielswierczynski2001 The first sentence relative to the cost of wgsd vs gsd is at best misleading. You can get either dog for $300 from an unscrupulous breeder, puppy mill etc. However the dog you get for that price is not the same in temperament, health, trainability... as one costing more, generally. There is a reason a Porsche costs more than a Yugo. Basically, I disagree with the idea that there is any difference between wgsd and gsd, the only valid one being color. To me it is like saying, all black people are dull, lazy and untrustworthy whereas whites are smart motivated and honest. Breeding for a smart, healthy, athletic dog of either type will more often produce such if followed by serious training continually from jump. To say that wgsd are more mellow, essentially less drivey than gsd is more a function of what breeders are breeding for than the character of the dog. As gsd popularity increases as a group their protective drivey nature declines as they are bred as pets. This is seen in the use of malinois by the Berlin Police instead of gsd. The top end price for either dog should be adjusted upward to at least $3000. I was annoyed by the tone that wgsd aren't drivey, protective etc.which whether showing in AKC Obed., Agility, Conformation ( rare breed registery ) or IPO this attitude has made it difficult.
The price mentioned in the video is a worldwide average price. In Some countries you can buy the dog for 25 usd

@@sixtoseven7563 I get you now, and can agree with most of what you say. The price quoted is low. At least $500-$800 USA without papers and upwards to $2500 with papers is a better range. The whites do seem less aggressive, although equally if not more protective of family. They are a bit more standoffish, but eventually warm up to new people. My white GSD (female) growing sat next to new people in the house and observed their every move, sometimes with a low growl if she was concerned. My Black and Reds usually became playful very quickly. Of course like people, all dogs are different and blanket statements and generalizations are just that, and not necesarrily indicative of the entire breed. A standard GSD is $300-900 LMAO!!!! yeah right!!! Maybe from a shitty backyard breeder hahaha. A standard GSD is more like $1,000'-$7,000 and that's if you get it I'm the US. Their a hell of alot more if you get them from Germany.
Do actual research before you put up a video not just the first thing on Google from (the happy puppy site)
300-900 is the worldwide average pricing. You might get them free, or you might pay thousands of dollars for one puppy depend on the location.
And this average pricing is worldwide. At some countries the US $100 = thousands of the local currency and breeders there make a good profit by selling the pups for few $$ .

Hey Nina. Did you watch the video!! We said that some people confused the Swiss with the WGS . They are looks a lot alike but they are not the same.

If you look close especially the nose you can see the difference. The swiss shepherd has a straight nose, the german shepherd has a slight hump at the end. Only difference I could see. I have a white gsd so this was of paricular interest to me.
