I watched all of your videos and it really helped me understand those sections at a more simplified level. I took my series 7 today and passed on my first attempt. You're the goat!

I do not understand. So getting a dividend or a stock split will adjust your cost basis because it reflects an increase or decrease of shares (according to stc). What am I missing here?
so does selling a put against a long/short position affect cost basis? i thought i had a question about that in kaplan practice tests, and I'm pretty sure it does. i've got my test tomorrow so a response would be awesome :)
shoot i got one more question, sorry. you said option expirations are taxed at capital gains for the sellers and losses for the buyers, but what about exercising the option when it is in the money? would that be capital gains or ordinary income? For example I go long 1 XYZ Dec 30 for a premium of 3. 1 month later i exercise the option when stock is trading at 40. Is that $10 of intrinsic value taxed at ordinary income or capital gains? Yep! Good catch I almost always say that by mistake but it's more the concept than worrying about dates. Because of quite a few extra specifics that come Into play,preferred its 90 days before and after ,If you owned a put during those days are not counted lot,etc So focus on what it means to the investor to have a qualified dividend vs the specifics

Short stock is proceeds not cost basis so it can’t impact cost basis
but what if you sell a put while also going long a stock? @@Series7Exam
You wouldn’t sell a put against a long position. Two bullish things is not where the test goes
