I’m just a regular guy but this song hits hard, not for personal reflection but thinking of all those who suffer in domestic violence relationships. Extraordinary song and that voice is perfect for it.
The most underrated singer ever!! After all these years I still can’t listen to this song without crying! Her vocal, energy and the lyrics 😭 Such a fan of everything this women is about❣️❣️❣️
no shit after about 22 years heard for th 2nd time, made me cry 😭 love it
I agree!
so do I
Excellent artist and song
I’m a survivor of domestic Voilence, married to a man with mental health issues.Trauma bonded to him,I loved him ,I finally got out after years of abuse. So painful. Two years on and I feel I’m a different woman, finding myself and learning to love and respect myself and self worth.
I have so much admiration for you! I grew up in a violent, nearly deadly home. My mum will always be my biggest hero for how she found the courage to leave and find safety, peace and joy for herself. You deserve the world 💜
Stay strong
She is criminally underrated, 90z 4 life.
Agree
She is touring Oz now. Saw her last time. Great voice.
Absolutely 👍

Agree. Funny how popular she was in New Zealand and Australia but nowhere else.
Fabulous song. Toni expresses all the emotions felt by an abused woman. I also love the depiction of the man as bound and drowning - he can't escape his destiny.
The sound that comes out of her is so incredible!
Brilliant
This is just a fabulous song and Toni Childs has the most haunting voice in the music industry
The calibre of popular music was so MUCH HIGHER in the 90s. So blessed to have grown up with real music. Not just the little pop ditties we get these days.

💯💯💯💯!!!!! Take me bk plz 🙏💖💖
You know, I hate this kind of comment. People said our music was so shallow and stupid because 90's was the beginning of the big hit factories and boy bands. They said it about the 80s and 90s that punk and grunge was just people who didn't know how to play music and little pop stars that were more about looks than musicality, in the 70s they were critical of experimental music pushing boundaries, The Who talked about their generation.
Then we go on and do the same thing and it is so deeply cringe. There is a lot of good music being made today by incredibly talented artists, some of whom manage to dominate the charts and get a lot of hits.
Just because you stopped listening to most modern music doesn't mean it isn't put there happening. Adele, Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, Haim, Florence and the Machine, Janelle Monae, Marina and the Diamonds, KT Tunstall, Sia, The Kills, Paris Paloma, Jhené Aiko and Griff and just SOME that I personally know. That is just women or female-lead bands.
Instead of crapping on modern music without knowledge why don't we stop being like the annoying people that came before us and either learn NEW music...or don't and just don't be an annoying and biddy about it. Good and bad music existed in the 90s. It was a famous decade for "little pop ditties". Good and bad music exists now. Cope.
@@ZoeAlleynethere is a polite way to say what you want to say, and to respectfully have a different opinion. But you chose to be a bitch about it.
Proud to have her as an Aussie now. She still performs regularly around the country. One of the greats,
Amen to that. I was a volunteer publicist for her Shepparton concert but then COVID-19 hit.
Saw her gig in Canberra in the last ten years or so. For this song in the encore she filled the stage with women from the audience and it was a moment for sure
@@rickybryan1759 Wonderful talent. Sssshh! We'll keep her for ourselves 🤗

It's a sad life when your with someone like this.
This song hits me. My mum played this as a survivor of severe domestic abuse.
My mom was a domestic violence survivor. This song always reminds me of her. But she didn't put up with it, she got out. You were not put here on this earth to be abused. If you're going through it, please get help. Don't allow yourself to be beaten.

My mum and her siblings grew up with a violent father, her and her older brother finally had enough as teens and told their mum (my nanna) they were leaving that was the catalyst for her to leave too, they all left together and never went back.
One of my favourites from the 90's. Toni Childs has such an amazing voice.
Wow, i am almost 41 and always thought this song was an original from Christine Anu. Never realized it was a cover. So good to experience the original
What a voice, what a song...this pierces the heart in so many ways. Adding the children to the picture. What a brave, courageous song. Toni Childs -- what an original artist. No one sounds like her.
One of the best songs ever. The honesty of this song still rings true today…
Seeing that Rage logo brings back so many memories of watching Rage early Sunday mornings after a big night on the booze staying awake to record the Top 60 on VHS to watch later.
I watch Raaaaaaggggeeee religiously. And I'm 60.
Sometimes it's utter shit. Other times it RIPS.
It's my main source of new music. You can only do the old stuff you know so many million times...
Such raw emotions in her voice. Awesome!
so fabulous
Always get tears falling listening to this, since 1991 to this day.......
Anybody else can sing this this song and I would not shed any tears, but when Toni sings it, I'm raining tears.
One of the greatest songs of the 90’s my Mum loved this song.
STOP YOUR FUSSIN! Toni Childs had/has one of the greatest, unique rock/pop voices of that decade, and extending much further. She had a really good band and those were some great albums. I saw her, live, in Boston, at the Paradise, on the Woman's Boat tour. She played the album from start to finish, had the front of the stage filled with sand and was barefoot the whole time! It was awesome! On a par with seeing Tori Amos, Jewel or anyone else at that time. But Toni has something special, for sure. Toni, I hope you're happy down under, and life turned out well for you. I love re-connecting with you, and hearing your albums all these years later. Thanks so much for giving us all so much of yourself!
Oh man this song hits me right in the feels!!! 😢
In my gut ......I LOVE HER MUSIC ......X
She is amazing....and understed ....SA Singer ....she is the best in the world ....take note people !!!!!

She's so freakin beautiful 😍
In a funny way she is
Brilliantly sung and so true thank you Toni your words say it all 😅
It’s funny I haven’t heard this song since the early 90s when I was a kid. But I remember every word. It’s indelibly imprinted on my memory. Many songs from this period seem to be.
Yes, and we'll never see the like again. Sadly ((
Dad said I’ll just go to the bakery, 11years later we hear he’s alive, this song got us through, years of abuse and then he left, all those nights Mum & I got kicked out, Mum went back, he came back but this time he left us, drove off, he just started to speak to Mum 31 years later then I found mum murdered a few months later on 31st December 2019!! My heart got buried with you that day I layed you to rest,,I’ll learn to live again, not sure how yet but taking each breath as it happens, Eternal Love Mum MDW♥️🌹🤙
So very sorry for your loss. A tragedy.
So sorry.
Breathe.
In every breath you'll ever take, from now until your last breath, there will be a billion atoms that your mother also breathed. You will remain connected in every breath you take. A billion atoms in every breath will keep you connected atomically for all your life... just breathe.
XXOOLO
Omg how tragic so sorry for you loss 😢😢😢😢

Probably one of the most amazing & beautiful voices of the century..
so unique, im so surprised she didnt continue staying up the top of the charts back then. ive always loved her songs. mite go see her in concert as she is touring australia soon. she'd be in her 60's i think, but still be a good show i reckon.

I love this women's work; just wonderfully powerful thoughts, words and emotions, and that all powerful voice!

Also, abusive wives, girlfriends, mothers...
Crying Now !!! reminds of me being a child 😢😢😢😢
Bee Baxter so much respect, family breakdowns are hard core.
Bee Baxter I can relate to this 😢😢😢
oh DITTO, violent alcoholic fathers/husbands have ruined lives. i begged my mother as a kid in the 70's to leave my dad. she left in mid 80's, she left me there.
and this song became my mothers anthem song.....if i ever saw her after she left, i knew she would play this song as her way of explaining. so as sad as this song is, its so damn powerful.
That’s so sad 😞
I do understand where your coming from.. my sister and i saw our mum get used as a boxing bag, our dad wasnt a drunk but you couldnt do anything right
Fantastic what a voice
What a song given our current times of men’s violence to women. Should be a lesson in life! Stop beating women up!
This song perfectly describes my life at the time this song was all over the radio. In 91 when my Mother finally packed up and left after years of herself, my brother and I facing daily brutal violence. But very weirdly My Father’s new girlfriend kept playing the CD over and over and he liked it too. Clearly neither of them got the lyrics or had any self awareness. They just seem to like the sound of music but are nit the type to understand words in any deep manner. They’ve been married nearly 30 years now and both remain awful people, that’s why they like each other.
This has always been one of my favourites. Toni Childs is awesome.
This song finds you, looks into you and then sets you free. More than a song...
This song always used to make me cry. Never knew that she did a video for it.

Besutiful voice
Refound this song a few weeks on a trip down to Mount Gambier. I had to listen to it a few times...... Crying.

Such a powerful song . It hits me as hard now as it did in 1991 .
Alcohol and jealousy don't mix brings the violence out in us It's haunting
Saw her last night along with the corrs and she was amazing ❤ my daughter and I got front row seats...
I was at that concert too! Toni sounded exactly like the CD! She sings live still amazingly!! 👏

1 of the most powerful songs I ever heard
Thanks for posting, I have not seen this clip for 25 years
me too.. and still this song blew me away. Never gets old...
same my Father deserted my mim sister and I for a life of drinking and fast living. this hit in the heart
Andrew Wilson I am so sorry to hear about that. I have a friend of mine who is a single mom with a seven year old son and she got out of an abusive relationship with an ex boyfriend who was the father of her child. Luckily he is stripped of his parental rights and is under house arrest after getting in trouble with the law twice.
Andy Mac, I've never seen this clip.
Until now, just in this moment.
This man I married is buried deep
And the more I try to wake him, the more he sleeps
I used to think I knew this man
The tenderness, not the back of his hand
It's been two weeks since he last had a drink
But the time bomb's ticking, I can never sleep
It would be easier if he did
Why do you stay here, stay with him
Why do you do it
Why do you treat us bad
When you've got two kids that love you
And a wife that's missing you bad
I've got to go now
I've got to say goodbye
Don't try to stop us now
And please don't you cry
Can't you see, we've all been through it
It's all been said before
With all these fears
For how many years can I keep coming
Back for more
No more
Must be addicted to all this pain
'Cause I keep coming back for the shame
Dear God, give me the strength to leave
I've got to keep going, keep going this time
Don't try to stop us now
Don't pull that stuff on me
I've got the kids all packed up
Harry's in the back with his pick-up truck
Jenny's fallen asleep again
I've got to keep driving 'til I reach the end
I can't come back here anymore
And I know it
And I know it
I can't come back here anymore
And I know it
And I know it
The aftermath is difficult though once you realise that the glimpse of the person you were with is as fake as faux fur, it begins to fully sink in. They destroy heartfelt people and leave behind a trail of brokeness that they will not escape from then. Beautiful expressive lyrics and his soulful voice perfects' it.

Thanks so much for posting this. I don't know why, but all of a sudden this weekend this old favourite randomly popped into my head and I just had to hear it again! High school and 1991 may be nearly 30 years ago, but this song (and her other ones too) never get old.

My mother loved her songs .. R.I.P Mum ✊
This song will never date
Toni Childs and David Ricketts wrote this song when they were in a relationship. David Ricketts produced this album and I am sure played on it. He was in David and David - "Welcome to the Boomtown"
I was born in 1986 and love it
Ditto brother
I was 16 when I first heard this song. So love that you love it too.
I was an '83 kid. I was about 15 i think when i heard this song.
On her double cd that i gave away.
Wish I'd kept it now.
I'm here in 2021 and haven't since this since my chldhood. Reminds me of RAGE. It were a TV show.
Is still a brilliant song, I remember it well! :)
Can’t wait until 16th Sep to see Toni in concert. Big fan!
So beautiful song
The amazing Toni Childs. Pure Class.
I was today years old when I learned that “Toni Childs” is an actual artist and not just a character on a sitcom lol
Saw her live in Perth in '91. Amazing talent, singer, songwriter and a beautiful woman.
I remember working for a carpenter doing patching around new windows installed. This song came on and he told me it has meaning to him. His daughter was been beat up by her husband when he got drunk. She left him and there would have been trauma that followed. It also meant something to me as I felt empathy for him.

This is for my mum.. she was a victim of abuse from my dad for many years... until she left he's sorry ass... mum has never been the same woman she was and that was 31yrs ago
So very sorry about your mom. Hope time will heal her wounds.
You keep being the man that gives her strength and encouragement 💖
That is incredibly sad!! I hope she's doing better now...
So very sorry😢
It`s like reading what happened to my mum by my abusive father.I feel your pain and I feel the pain for your mum also.I am so glad that both of them left there abusers.Take care both of you.

Her voice is raw the words are raw such the truth of this raw world..any man that hits a woman is not a man his weak..gutless
