Caffeine might well be making you less of a morning person. It's a socially accepted drug so we don't often talk about it as a drug. Caffeine is a stimulant which makes us feel alert and energetic, but on the flip-side, there's also the less talked about rebound fatigue. I used to be a big coffee person too. I'd be desperate for my morning cup to be able to start my day, but now that I don't drink it anymore(due to other health reasons), I must say it is very nice being able to wake up and feel awake rather than needing my fix to get there. You have a higher tolerance for caffeine, as I remember you mentioning you can drink coffee relatively late in the day and still sleep at night, but even though you're able to fall asleep, neuroscientists recommend that we avoid caffeine from 10ish hours before sleeping in order to preserve the quality of our sleep.

Hi Scott, I've lived in Mendocino and Little River for 30+ years now and just found your channel. This one caught my eye being in my neck of the woods. Yes, we do have great kind and friendly folks here. Your comment about the friendliness of people seeming somewhat reflected by weather a place needs or is overrun by tourists makes sense. I had lived in the Mendocino Village and when we were overrun by tourists for an extended time it could get wearing on the nerves. That's another story...lol. I've toyed with the idea of Van life for the past 2-3 years so this kind of video is great. So many of the videos I have seen are young folks so it's interesting getting a view from someone with more maturity. The biggest obstacle for me is that I don't like driving too much. I love exploring new places and meeting new people but enjoy being driven... probably why this remains more fantasy than reality, lol. All the housekeeping details are so helpful for the idea of trying van life myself. I found it interesting to hear that garbage receptacles are hard to find nesr the beaches here...had never noticed this. I'm not sure if this is an issue at the beaches but all up and down our coastal area we've had an increase in our bear population and no garbage can is safe from them. (What's our wildlife to do as we humans continue to invade their natural feeding places). Also it makes perfect sense about not going extra miles for something like "free" water, especially with our insane gas prices. I wouldn't have thought how helpful all the little daily details like water, garbage, kinds of shoes, paper towels versus dishcloths, etc. can be. I don't recall any other van lifer I've watched talking about daily Van housekeeping so thank you. I totally relate to not being a morning person and have read articles by neuroscientists who claim our bodies have 3-4 different circadian rhythms and have natural set points. I know I've tried to change my rhythm so many times and have finally given in to being a night owl and not a morning early bird. Speaking of local coffee we have Thanksgiving coffee which is based in Fort Bragg and Big River which relocated to Santa Rosa awhile back. I'm a lover of a strong dark roast and the Big River Mediterranean French Roast is my absolute favorite now. They carry it at both Harvest Markets. You've mentioned coming back here and guessing you might know this but you can get showers for a small fee at Russian Gulch State Park and some beautiful hiking to a pretty waterfall. Thank you for these and looking forward to your trips in Humboldt. Very interesting hearing how food prices are actually cheaper in Humboldt I was born in Arcata and sometimes think about moving back to Arcata or Ferndale, so this is interesting news. A tip for a lid not closing correctly...you can usually use aluminum foil to creare a molded lid and then often the regular lid clamps onto it. And to heck with anyone judging using pre made rice, you do you as long as your not harming anyone. Blessings ❤
I do my dishes the same way. I justify the paper towels by buying recycled paper or bamboo, Grocery Outlet is where I've been getting the bamboo lately. Or Gross Out as l like to call it😆 I love Groc Out❤
Hi scott great video I'm glad you're keeping your mileage down fantastic view also you make the best hamburger! Sinkhole was a little scary though 😮 drive safely

I just discovered you tonight! Love your videos probably because you are in some of my favorite places. I have been to Humboldt county a few times. Love Prairie Creek Redwood Forest, Fort Bragg and Mendocino. I just moved to Windsor from Los Angeles. In your next episode you are very near me. Windsor is between Healdsburg and Santa Rosa. I wanted to call you and tell you all the places to go and find coffee and great parks. I am also a part time car camper. I am married to a retired physician and need to have my own time occasionally. I have been trying to think of a place to go this spring and I think I’m going to Humboldt county.
Another great release Scott! Excellent content and sights were spectacular. You eat well Scott! Thank you for taking us along on your day’s journey. Be well!!🇺🇸
BTW I noticed you changed the title from Living in… to Subsisting in… Made me chuckle inside. Love your snarky humor (if that’s the right descriptor). Anyway thanks for your videos ✨
Hi Scott. Suggestion for remembering if you have or haven't taken vits/meds. They make a mini version of the clear plastic weekly Sunday through Saturday pill despenser box. Holds just 3 pills per day. Attach box to magnets, mount out of way, easy to see. Easy to see if you have already taken them and don't have the bottle(s) taking up valuable real estate. Enjoy your videos. Mike
Hello Scott, Your narratives are my traveling companions when I commute to work. Love your stories and down to earth perspective. I hope you will be good to yourself. Allow your self tender and generous self care. You are learned of van dwelling and how to male it work. But your alone so much. Outside of your fan base you don't seem to have much contact on an other than virtual basis. I hope you will think about getting some time with others. It could just be a meet up with another van dweller or someone interesting that has stories to share as well. Your hobby is coffee and cooking. I take a class occasionally. Its a nice way to interface with others. Classes as the libraries are generally free. Mabey you would like to check it out. Nice haircut! Interesting view of the world through your lens. Live your best life .
It’s a common misconception to think that I am alone often. The fact is, most of the people I hang out with don’t want to be on video. I also try and not video strangers around me. Which is why a lot of places I go appear to be void of people.
I’m a new subscriber and I just want to say I love your channel and your simplicity. Simple life is good for our mental health and you get to see many beautiful places. Thanks for sharing your life. I pray for your safety. You are such an inspiration to me thanks 🙏🏽

These coffee companies should send you some of their products. It would be an profitable idea for them. I'm looking for a good tasting coffee, and you talking about these different types does help...😊

Unfortunately, the issues will be front and center because they are changing the places that I am able to travel. Even so, I will be trying to limit discussing the topic as it is overly negative.

Blessings ❤
Nice haircut, Scott. I’m not a morning person either and will never be and I like it that wat
And... you did a great job cutting your hair!❤
Great video scott.
I know the feeling I'm not a morning person either lol 😏🙄😬
I've always been an early bird! But lately getting up at 7 is more what I do, mostly because I have a dog that wants to eat, Lol!
Nice calm video 😊 love it. You're not 4 anymore but your waist is still useful to hang your jacket 🙏🏾 seems like not so great memories from back then but you seem to be living a nice peaceful life. That's great!
Hey there Scott, I just left Fort Bragg and am headed North to Hum......I'm from the Mendo Coast and was visiting family down here. Enjoy the wild weather and stunning beauty! There's excellent water and a rubbish bin down in Mendocino at the Heesers drive /Headlands restroom facility. See you on the road...Keep on rolling 🌎❣️😎
Thanks for the info!
Hey Thanks. Windsor is a great town. I especially like Oliver’s there
After your older review I tried the Altra Lone Peak. I find them to be the best shoe I’ve had! 👟 thanks! For me they’re great!
Glad you are liking them
@@StaticCamperVanmy feet are happy!!
Ft. Bragg is my favorite place!
We love point Cabrillo. We rent the Light keeper’s house for a weekend every April. It’s so beautiful and so relaxing.
That must be so nice to stay on the grounds
The haircut looks good!
Thanks Margaret
Another great release Scott! Excellent content and sights were spectacular. You eat well Scott! Thank you for taking us along on your day’s journey. Be well!!🇺🇸
Thanks Jamie
Scott, again thank you for your channel. I envy your lifestyle! Someday….hopefully I can try to do the same. Take care!!
Great tip about the packaged rice for stir fry. ❤
BTW I noticed you changed the title from Living in… to Subsisting in… Made me chuckle inside. Love your snarky humor (if that’s the right descriptor). Anyway thanks for your videos ✨
Sometimes I make some changes to hopefully grab a little more attention
Mike
Yes, I was saying that I might do well to buy one
Don't forget to smile my dear........it lifts the spirit!
Aww, thanks
Hi Scott,
I don´t know what it looks in the US but here in Skandinavia you can always find free water at cemeteries.Buying water? It is so weird for my ears. Just a tough an tip :) I follow you from Sweden!
Interesting!
I wish I liked coffee because the people who drink it are so happy in the process of making it and drinking it. Ive been cutting my hair for thirty years and now I wouldn't let anyone else touch it. Thanks for the journey.
For a very long time, I thought I didn't like coffee. Turns out that I don't like bad or mediocre coffee.
These coffee companies should send you some of their products. It would be an profitable idea for them. I'm looking for a good tasting coffee, and you talking about these different types does help...😊
When I see the name Fort Bragg, I immediately think of Fayetteville, NC. It's the largest US Army base in the world, and is home to the 82nd Airborne Division. I'm about 90 minutes drive from there, here in coastal NC. I enjoy your videos and calm demeanor!
Scott, please give us updates on the transmission and engine issues. 😊❤
Unfortunately, the issues will be front and center because they are changing the places that I am able to travel. Even so, I will be trying to limit discussing the topic as it is overly negative.
Thank you for the nice video❤
Hi Scott, the cove looks like what’s left of a huge tree, beautiful.

I enjoyed this vlog. Was there 35 years ago but think about that area just about everyday.
Thanks!
Thanks Mark. I hope you have a nice morning coffee tomorrow
@StaticCamperVan Thank you Scott safe travels.
Love the sounds of northern Cal 👍
Hey, Scott. I'm not a morning person, either. Just never works. Ur right to take your time and get going in your own time. 😊
